(p. 1260) śōṣa ṣōsha. [Skt.] n. Drying up, ఎండడము. Fainting, faintness. ఆహారములేనందున గాని రోగముచేతగాని వచ్చేసొక్కు. వట్టి కంఠశోషగాని వేరు లేదు this is mere waste of breath. శోషణము ṣ&omacr ;shaṇamu. n. Drying up, ఎండడము శోషము ṣōshamu. n. Drying, dryness. Fainting, శోషిల్లుట. Pulmonary consumption. Intumescence, swelling. క్షయరోగము, వాపురోగము శోషించు, శోషిల్లు or శోషిలు ṣōshinṭsu. v. n. To be dried up, to become dry, lean, thin, poor. ఎండిపోవు, శుష్కించు, To faint, ఆహారము లేనందువల్ల గాని రోగము చేతగాని మూర్ఛపోవు. శోషింప జేయు ṣōshimpa-jēyu. v. a. To cause to dry up, ఎండజేయు.

(p. 1271) saṅkramamu san-kramamu. [Skt.] n. Difficult progress, advance through difficulties. The transit of a planetary body through the zodiac, గమనము, గతి, సూర్యాదిగ్రహములు ఒకరాశినుండి మరియొకరాశికి పోవడము. A causeway, a bridge, వంతెన. సంక్రమణము san-kramaṇamu. n. The passage of the sun or planetary body from one sign of the zodiac into another. సూర్యాది గ్రహములు ఒకరాశిని విడిచి మరియొక రాశికి పోవడము. సంక్రమించు san-kraminṭsu. v. a. To encroach on, ఆక్రమించు. To enter, ప్రవేశించు. సంక్రాంతి san-krānti. n. The transit of the sun or a planetary body from one sing of the zodiac into another; particularly applied to the passage of the sun from Sagittarius to Capricornus in January when the Hindus celebrate the Pongal (పొంగలి) feast సూర్యాదిగ్రహములు ఒక రాశిలోనుండి మరియొక రాశికి పోవడము, ముఖ్యముగా సూర్యుడు మకరములో ప్రవేశించేది మకరసంక్రాంతి.

(p. 1275) santariñcu san-tarinṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To equalise, సరిపరుచు. To earn, get, acquire, సంపాదించు, గడించు. To cause to acquire, కలిగించు. To write, వ్రాయు, రచించు. To protect, support, rear, భరించు, సంరక్షించు. 'చక్కదనమెల్లముల్లెగాసంతరించి.' H. i. 254. ఆమె నన్ను సాకి సంతరించినది she brought me up and took care of me.

(p. 1278) sandhi sandhi. [Skt.] n. Connection, union combination, junction, coalescence. కూడిక, చేరడము, కలియడము. A joint of the limbs, కీలు. Pacification, peacemaking, conciliation, peace, a treaty. అనుకూలము, సమాధానము. The coalescence of letters in accordance with the laws of euphony. అచ్సంధి the union of vowels. హల్సంధి the union of consonants. ఈయన వారికి సంధి చేసినాడు he made them friends. 'బిట్టుల్కి సంధులు ప్రిదలిగిర్రనుచు.' BD. iv. 359. కుసంధి a bad union. సంధివిగ్రహము peace and war. సంధివిగ్రహాధికారము a war ministry, the duty of a war minister. సంధిబంధనము a ligament. సంధించు san-dhinṭsu. v. a. To cause to meet, to bring together, join, unite. కలుపు, చేర్చు, కూర్చు. సంధించు or సంధిల్లు. v. n. To be joined to or united with, కూడు. సంధితము sandhitamu. adj. Joined, united, connected, bound, చేర్చబడిన, కూర్చబడిన కట్టబడిన. సంధిత్స sandhitsa. n. The desire of joining, an inclination to unite. చేర్చవలెననేయిచ్ఛ. సంధిలు or సంధిల్లు sandhilu. v. n. To happen, occur; to meet. ప్రాప్తమగు, ఎదురుపడు, కలుగు, వచ్చు. 'భక్తిగౌరవము విశ్వాసంబు సంధిల్లగా.' T. ii. 55. 'అచలాత్మజమాటకు లేత నవ్వు సంధిల్ల.' Swa. pref. 2. సంధుడు or సంధురాలు sandhuḍu. n. One who is united with. These words are used in compounds; thus సత్యసంధుడు, సత్యసంధురాలు. a truthful or veracious man or woman.

(p. 1282) sambhavamu sam-bhavamu. [Skt.] n. Birth, production. The origin, cause, reason. motive, ఉత్పత్తి, పుట్టుక. హేతువు. adj. Arising from, produced from, descending from. ఉత్పన్నమైన, ఉద్భూతమైన, కలిగిన. పాపసంభవము caused by sin. సంభవించు or సంభవిల్లు sambhav-inṭsu. v. n. To be born, happen, occur. పుట్టు, ప్రాప్తమగు. కలుగు. సంభవింపజేయు sambhav-impa-jēyu. v. a. To bring about, cause, effect. ప్రాప్తమగునట్లు చేయు.

(p. 1283) saṃrōdhamu sam-rōdhamu. [Skt.] n. An impediment, hindrance. ఆటంకము, అభ్యంతరము. సంరోధి sam-rōdhi. n. That which causes an impediment. విఘ్నము చేయునది. సంరోధించు sam-rōdhinṭsu. v. a. To hinder, impede, prevent. అడ్డగించు, ఆటంకపరుచు.

(p. 1296) sannipātamu san-ni-pātamu. [Skt.] n. A sort of paralytic disease, delirium, convulsions, hysteria, ౛న్ని. A collection assemblage, multitude, సంచయము, కలయిక. ప్రలాపసన్నిపాతము. delirium. తాంత్రికసన్నిపాతము nervous debility. రుగ్దాహసన్నిపాతము pains in the body, attended with thirst. అన్న విషమసన్నిపాతము sudden death or disease caused by eating heartily while convalescent from fever.

(p. 1299) samakūḍu, samakūru or సమకురు sama-kūḍu. [Skt.+Tel.] v. n. To succeed or take effect, to accrue to, to be got, to be accomplished, to happen, occur. చేకూరు, లభించు, సిద్ధించు సంభవించు, కలుగు, ప్రాప్తమగు.' సైన్యముచేసమరజయముసమకూరదు.' M. XII. iii. 179. సమకూరుచు or సమకూర్చు sama-kūrutsu. v. a. To cause, effect, bring about. చేకూరజేయు.

(p. 1299) samakonu sama-konu. [Skt.+Tel.] v. n. To be got, to be obtained; happen, occur. లభించు, ప్రాప్తమగు, సిద్ధించు, కలుగు v. a. To attempt, to aim at. యత్నించు. 'సశరీరస్వర్గ సుఖముసమకొనియుండన్' Swa. ii. 63. సమకొని వీరికిద్దరకు సఖ్యముజేయక యున్నసాగదే.' P. i. 215. సమకొలుపు or సమకొల్పు sama-kolupu. v. a. To cause to happen. లభింపజేయు, సిద్ధింపజేయు. To make ready, సిద్ధపరుచు. To have, bear, endure, కలిగియుండు, సహించు. To induce, incite, persuade. పురికొలుపు, ప్రేరేపించు. 'ననుకృతార్థుని జేయ నాగురుస్తుతికి సమకొల్పితివినన్ను సద్గురుపుత్ర.' L. i. 160. సమకోలు sama-kōlu. n. The act of happening, occurrence, accruement. లభించుట, సిద్ధించుట, కలుగుట.

(p. 1301) samādhānamu sam-ādhānamu. [Skt.] n. Peace, tranquility, satisfaction, consent, agreement, a treaty. A reason, ground. నెమ్మది, సమ్మతి, అంగీకారము. న్యాయము. సమాధానపడు sam-ādhāna-paḍu. v. n. To agree, consent. సమ్మతిపడు. To be reconciled. సమాధానపరుచు sam-ādhāna-paruṭsu. v. a. To cause one to agree on consent. To reconcile, సమ్మతించునట్టుచేయు.

(p. 1303) samuru samutu. [H.] n. A combination or league, a strike among workmen. కట్టుపాటు. 'ఒక యేకాదశి నాటరేయిసముతైయున్నట్లు రోవెట్టటువేడుకకుంరాకయు.' Vaij. ii. 87. సముతుకట్టు samutu-kaṭṭu. v. n. To strike work, కట్టుకట్టు. సముతుపడు to be caught, to yeild, పట్టుబడు, సముతుపరుచు to cause to yeild. 'తే మస్తకముదువ్విపలుమారు గుస్తరించి, సమరసముచూపి మెల్లనే సముతుపరిచి, వాగెబిగియించి తమ్మెమాల్వాగెసడలి, పన్నెపోకిన ముందర బరవదయ్యె.' చంద్రా. iii.

(p. 1313) salupu salupu. [Tel.] v. a. To do, make, perform, practise. చేయు. 'సరసులతో చెల్మి సలుపబూనె.' T. ii. 72. 'విద్దెములు సలుపు.' to skip about. N. ix. 241. పొత్తుసలుపు to contract friendship. సజ్ఞాతవాసంబుసలిపితిమి we lived in concealment, or incognito. M. V. iii. 272. వ్రతముసలుపు to perform or fulfil a vow. సలిపించు salipinṭsu. v. a. To get done, to cause to be done or made. చేయించు.

(p. 1315) savyamu savyamu. [Skt.] adj. Left, left hand. వామము, ఎడమ. అపసవ్యము the right. సవ్యకరము the left hand. ౛ందెమును సవ్యముగా వేసుకొని యుండినాడు he wore the Brahminical thread on the proper shoulder, i.e., the left shoulder. ౛ందెమును అపసవ్యముగా వేసుకొని యుండినాడు he wore the thread on the wrong shoulder i.e., the right shoulder. నక్తమచరుండుదంచితగతి సవ్యదిశకొత్తతరుమనపసవ్యగతింజాళెంబునహయంబు బోనిచ్చుచు.' Swa. iv. 159. 'నీరుకావులు కట్టినీళ్లదర్బలచేత సవ్యాపసవ్యతల్ చల్లువారు.' Rama Stava. Raj. ii. 74. సవ్యముగా savyamu-gā. adv. Towards the left hand. ఎడముగా. సవ్యసాచి savya-sāchi. n. Ambidexter; a title of Arjuna, because he used both hands equally well. అర్జునుడు. సవ్యేష్ఠుడు savyē-shṭluḍu. n. A charioteer, who stands on the proper side, that is, on the left. రథసారధి.
