(p. 530) tiru tiru. [A Tamil word for Skt. శ్రీ.] adj. Blessed or holy. (This is used in a variety of ways by Vaishṇavites.) తిరుకాపు tiru-kāpu. n. Adorning the god. దేవతనలంకరించుట. తిరుకొలను a sacred tank, పుష్కరిణి. తిరుచూర్ణము the sacred powder used to mark the forehead by the Vaishṇavites, శ్రీచూర్ణము, తిరునామము, వైష్ణవబొట్టు. తిరుమణి [మణి = మన్ను] the sacred earth, a kind of white clay used in making the sectarian mark (నామము). తిరుపగూడ a small basket in which the తిరుమణి and other things are kept. తిరుపతి tiru-pati. n. A town, Tripati తిరుమల. తిరుమజ్జినము tiru-majjanamu. n. The sacred bath given to an idol. దేవతాభిషేకము. తిరుమన్ను same as తిరుమణి. తిరుమాళిగ tiru-māḷiga. n. A Vaishṇavite's word for a house (వైష్ణవపరిభాష యందు) గృహము.

(p. 644) nāmamu or నామధేయము nāmamu. [Skt. cf. Eng. 'name'.] n. A name, appellation, title. The unright mark drawn in the forehead by the Vaishṇavites. నొసట పెట్టుకొనే బొట్టు. నామాంకితము placing one's name in a (poetical) dedication, &c. నామకరణము nāma-karaṇamu. n. The ceremony of naming a child. Christening. బిడ్డలకు పేరు పెట్టుట. నామకార్థము for name's sake, nominally. నామమడుచు nāmam-aḍaṭsu. (నామము+అడచు.) v. t. To kill. చంపు భార. స్త్రీ. ii. నామముపెట్టు to leave one's mark upon a man, i.e., to deceive or ruin him. నామము పెట్టుకొను to draw lines upon one's own forehead. నామదుంప nāma-dumpa. n. (p. 644) nāmālapilli nāmālapilli. [Tel.] n. A sort of wild cat with four upright lines on the forehead. Fclis rubiginosa. Jerdon. నాములుతీయు nāmulu-tīyu. (నాము = నామము.) v. n. To reed wood in carpentry, to carve it with parallel upright lines, resembling the Vaishṇavite marks.
