(p. 520) tāmbūlamu tāmbūlamu. [Skt.] n. The betel-leaf and areca nut formed into a parcel, ready for use. వక్కాకు. This is also a phrase for a douceur. తాంబూలము పుచ్చుకొను to take betel (which is generally offered ceremoniously to a stranger as a mark of respect.) To take an oath: (because such a ceremony is gone through when an oath or solemn engagement is taken.) The tambulamu likewise is given as the final or termination of every meal, every transaction and every religious rite. Thus తాంబూలమిచ్చు and తాంబూలముపుచ్చుకొను is to ratify most solemnly, as a betrothal; to swear an oath. తాంబూలవల్లి or తాంబూలి the betel vine.

(p. 553) tēne or తేనియ tēne. [Tel.] n. Honey. Various kinds are called జుంటితెనె, పెద్ద తెరతేనె, తొణితితెనె, పుట్టతేనె, పెరతేనె, బొర్ర తేనె, మొసరతేనె, చిన్నపువ్వుతేనె and కర్రపట్టు (which is the best.) A ruddy nut brown complextion is compared to honey. Radha. i. 11; so in Theocritus, melichroos is applied to a bright ruddy or nut brown beauty. పూదేసె the nectar of flowers. తేనెచెట్టు tēne-cheṭṭu. n. A certain tree తేనెటీగ, తేనీగ, తేనెయీగ or తేనెతిండి tēne-ṭīga. n. A honey-bee. తేనెతెర tēṇe-tera. n. Honey comb. తేనెతొనలు or తేనెతొలలు tēne-tonalu. n. Honey comb, also a sort of vermicelli. తేనెపిట్ట tēne-pitta. n. The Sun-bird or Honeysucker, Arachnechthra asiatica, or A. Zeylonica. (F.B.I.) తేనెపెట్టు tēne-peṭṭu. v. t. To make honey. తేనెఅరటి a kind of sweet plantain. తేనెగా౛ు a kind of bangle. తేనెగద్ద tēne-gadda. n. The Honey Buzzard, Pernis cristatus. (F.B.I.) తేనెసారాయి tēne-sārāyi. n. Mead, brewed from honey.

(p. 556) toṇḍamu tonḍamu. [from Skt. తుండము.] n. An elephant's trunk. The neck or hose of a leather bucket. తొండపుదోమ or ఏనుగదోమ a mosquito with a proboscis, the female mosquito (which alone has such a proboscis), ఘోణి. తొండఉల్లంకి tonḍaullanki. n. The Black-tailed Godwit, Limosa belgica. (F.B.I.)

(p. 832) pradakṣiṇamu pra-dakshiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Circumambulation. Paying homage (to a god, &c.) by solemnly walking round it with the right hand towards it. అప్రదక్షిణముగానుండే శంఖము a right hand shell (which is consdered a curiosity) being the Perinthium, the volutes of which turn (what is commonly called) the wrong way.

(p. 1123) vaṭṭa vaṭṭa. [Tel.] n. The bar that turns the centre post of a sugar mill. చెరుకుగానుగ రోటినడిమిరోకలికివేయు అడ్డమాను. వట్టకాయలు or వట్టలు vaṭṭa-kāyalu. n. plu. The testicles. వృషణములు, బీజములు. వట్టలుకొట్టు to castrate. lit: to strike the (bullock's) stones, (which are crushed with a mallet, not cut out.)
