(p. 9) anta anta. [Tel.] n. Whole; adj. So much. adv. Then, afterwards. నీ వెంత అడిగితే అంత యిస్తాను I will give you as much as you ask. అంతకంటె then that. అంతకంత as much again. అంతకంతకు by degrees; more and more. అంతకుముందు before that. అంతమంది so many men. అంత. మందిలో among so many persons. అంతమట్టుకు so far, thus far. అంతమాత్రము only so much అంతసేపు so long. అంతలో in the mean time. మూడంతలు three times as much. అక్కడికి పోయినంతలో on his going there. వాడు తనంతనే వచ్చినాడు he came of his own accord. అంతవాడు లేడు. there never was such a man. రాజంతవాడవు thou art equal to the king. నాయంతవాడు my equal, one like me one as tall as I am. అంతే అవును. that probably is the case నిద్రలేచినంతలో when he rose from sleep, as soon as he awoke. నేను తెలిసికొన్నంత as much as I know అంతపని such an act.

(p. 19) akkaḍa akkaḍa. [Tel. from అ+కడ = that place.] adv. There. ఆ స్థలమందు. అక్కడి of that place. అక్కడక్కడ here and there. అక్కడికిన్నీ సమ్మతించనందున as he would not even yet consent.

(p. 52) ani ani. [Tel.] (Past p|| of అను to say) Having said. This is translated by the word 'That' or 'so' or the infinitive mood is used, as వారు అక్కడ ఉండినారని అన్నాడు he told me that they were there. అవతల వెళ్లరాదని తిరిగీ వస్తిమి we did not think it right to go on and returned; we thought we must not go further; so we came back. నన్ను పొమ్మని చెప్పెను he told me to go. తన సొమ్మని యెంచి considering it his own. దాన్ని నాకని కొన్నాడు he bought it for me. కావలెనని అక్కడికి పోయినాడు he went there on purpose. పండ్లను పటపటమని కొరికినాడు he gnashed his teeth. ఘమ్మని fragrantly. తళుక్కని brilliantly. గడగడమని మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke rapidly. ఈగలు జుమ్మని ముసురు కొన్నవి the flies covered it buzzingly. నీవు ఈ శాలువ కప్పుకొంటే గుమ్మని ఉండును if you wear this shawl it feels warm: or, you will feel warm.

(p. 159) udyāpanamu ud-yuktamu.[Skt.] adj. Attempted. Zealous, resolved, determined. ఉద్యోక్తుడు He who is ready or prepared. యత్నించువాడు, సిద్ధముగానున్నవాడు. అక్కడికి పోవలెనని ఉద్యోక్తుడై being about to go. జాబు వ్రాయుటకు ఉద్యోక్తుడనై when I was going to write the letter. క్రూరమైన పనికి ఉద్యుక్తుడై ready to do a cruel deed.

(p. 196) ēca or ఏస ēṭsa. [Tel vulgarly వ్యాస] adj. Wild, rude, vulgar, savage, గ్రామ్యము. Crooked or distorted వక్రము. అక్కడి మాట యిక్కడియేచ, ఇక్కడిమాట అక్కడయేచ our language sounds rude to you, and your's sounds rude to us.

(p. 205) oṇṭu onṭu. [Tel.] n. A share, division. A village community గ్రామసమూహము. A unit in numeration. సారెని ఒంటు the place or square in which a counter stands in a game at draughts. ఒంటు or ఒంటుబావిలి. n. A sort of ear-ring worn by by men. పురుషులకర్ణభూషణము. ఒంటు v. i. To agree with one's health, to be wholesome or salubrious. ఇముడు, అనుకూలించు. To touch, to go near, to approach చేరు. ఆ దేశానికిన్ని ఈ దేశమునకున్ను ఒంటక ఆశక్తముగానున్నది or అక్కడి నీళ్లకును ఇక్కడి నీళ్లకును. ఒంటనందున వానికి ఒళ్లు కుదురులేదు his health suffered from change of water, (change of air.) See on నీళ్లు. ఒంటుకొను onṭu-konu. v. i. To touch, go near. తాకు. చేరు.

(p. 213) oramu oramu. [Tel.] v. i. To become hot వేడెక్కు. 'అక్కడరములుకరములెకా జిగినొరమెననన్ రవియుమెరసె.' A. iv. 212.

(p. 535) tīru tīru. [Tel.] v. n. To end, stop, cease, elapse. To be finished, ended, complete, or ready. To be paid, delivered, discharged, avenged. To be qualified, accomplished, finished, adorned, trim, decked. To be gratified, satiated, wreaked (as passion;) to be assuaged or allayed, to go off. ముగియు, చిక్కబడు. తనివితీర to the full; so as to satisfy one's desires. తీరలేదు it came to nothing, it was ineffectual. కోరికతీసి having gained his end. ఇది నాచేత తీరదు this is out of my power. నాకు తీరీతీరక ఉన్నది I am hardly at leisure. తీరిపోవు to die. To be practicable, or possible. అక్కడికి రాతీరదు I cannot come there, I have not leisure to come. రాకుంటే తీరదు (you) must positively come. వెళ్లక తీరదు I cannot help going. తీరినగుండెగా నున్నాడు he is quite hackneyed. తీరా tirā. (Root in A of తీరు, with the intensive affix ఆ) adv. Ultimately, at last; fairly; just, merely, in short, simply. తీరా మధ్యాహ్నమయ్యేటప్పటికి when it was high noon. ఆ గోడ తీటా పడ్డది the wall actually fell down. తూరా పండుకొనేటప్పటికి when he was fairly asleep. ఆ సంగతి తీరా బయటపడేటప్పటికి when the matter at last became known. తీరా చెల్లించెను he paid it in full. తీరిక or తీరికె tīrika. n. Leisure. పనిలేక యూరకుండుట. తీరికచిక్కిన having no leisure. Adorning, trimming, decoration. దిద్దడము. తీరిన tīrina adj. Full. finished, accomplished, cured, settled. తీరు. n. Manner, way, mode, fashion, style, arrangement, విధము. Beauty చక్కన. వాడు బకతీరుమనిడషి he is an odd man. వాడుబకతీరుగానున్నాడు ఒకతీరుగానున్నాడు he is but so and so, he is not well, he is not at ease. ఈ తీరు thus. తీరుతప్పి ఉన్నాడు it is all over with him. తీరుగా tirugā. adv. To end, do away with. To settle or pay up as a debt, &c. తీర్పించు tīrpinṭsu. v. a. To cause to decide, or determine.

(p. 581) daya daya. [Skt.] n. Favour, kindness, grace, regard. Love, affection, attachment. Mercy, pity, tenderness, clemency, compassion. Pleasure, goodness, amiability, a kind heart. కృప, కనికరము. తమ దయ ఎట్లో అట్లు just as your honour pleases. మీదయ thank you. దయచేయు daya-chēyu. v. a. & n. To grant, bestow, allow, give ఇచ్చు. అనుగ్రహించు. To honor or favour with (something) కరుణించు. Displeased, disgraced, out of favour ఆయన దయ నామీద తప్పినది. I lost his favour. దయారసము dayā-rasama. n. The spirit of love. Lovingkindness, humanity, benignity, indulgence. దయాళుత్వము dayāḷutvamu. n. Benignity. సర్వదయాళుత్వము universal beneficence, goodness to all creatures. దయాళువు or దయాశాలి dayāḷuvu. n. A kind, gracious, merciful person. కనికరముగలవాడు.

(p. 613) dōṇamu or దోణాము dōṇamu. [Tel.] n. A dumb-bell or Indian club. భుజమునకు బలమునిచ్చుటకై త్రిప్పెడు జెట్టివాని యుపకరణవిశేషము. A mallet, మ్రాను సుకరముగా చీలుటకై అక్కడక్కడ చెక్కిన మేకులను దిగగొట్టెడు ఉపకరణవిశేషము.

(p. 692) pagalu or పవలు pagalu. [Tel.] n. Day-time. Day. అహస్సు. (Adverbially) by day, in the day time. రాత్రింబగలు day and night. పగటిమీదను అక్కడినుండి తర్లితిమి we set out in the afternoon. పగటివేలుపు pagativēlupu. n. The god of the day, i.e., the sun. పట్టపగలు paṭṭa-pagalu. [పగలు+పగలు.] n. Broad day. adv. In full daylight. పగలువత్తి pagalu-vatti. n. The fire work called a blue light or Roman candle. మతాబు. 'పగలొత్తుల్ దివిటీలుతిర్వళిఘలున్.' H. iii. 31.

(p. 708) pani pani. [Tel.] n. Work, a task. కర్మము. Business, employment, వ్యాపారము. Workmenship, శిల్పము. ఈ కట్టడమునందు మంచిపని చేసియున్నారు there is good workmanship in this building. An affair, act, matter. Service, utility, purpose, object, intention, design. ప్రయోజనము. An order, duty, నియోగము. పనిమీద ఉన్నాడు he is busy. మంచిపని very well, well, good. మంచిపనిచేసినావు you did well or right. అతని పనిచూస్తున్నాను I am engaged in his service: I am acting for him. అతనిపని తీర్చినారు they settled his business, or they killed him. ఇక్కడ నీకేమిపని what business have you here? This word is sometimes omitted in translating; as in నీపనిపట్టిస్తాను I will punish you. ఇంతపనికి నన్నేల వెంటబెట్టుకొనివచ్చినావు why have you brought me for such a trifle or pretence? పనికిమాలి (or) పనిచెడి కూర్చున్నాడు he is sitting idle. వారు వ్యాధిచేత పనిచెడిరి they became infirm through illness. వానితో విరోధము పనికిరాదు he will not stand quarrelling. దాన్ని సంపాదించడము ఎంతపని it is no great matter to get it. నాపని చెరిపినారు they spoiled my work. పనిచెరువుకథలు idle stories. పనికి వచ్చే useful. పనికివచ్చే పిల్లకాయ a promising boy. పనికిరాని or పనికిమాలి useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు about what business did you go there? నీపనిని నీవు చూచుకొనుము mind your own business. అక్కడికి పోవలసినపనిలేదు there is no need of going there. ఇప్పట్లో వానిపని యిట్లు ఉన్నది he is now in this state. అట్లు చెప్ప పని లేదు there is no need of saying so. పనిగొను pani-gonu. v. a. To undertake a work, to engage in a business. పూనుకొను. To employ, నియోగించు. 'పనిగొనవుతెలియగ బరికించి చూచిన.' Vēma. పనితనము pani-ta-namu. n. Workmanship, elegance. పనితనముగల ఒక మంచము a handsome bed. పనితొడవులు pani-toḍarulu. n. Worked or embossed jewels. పనిపడు or పనివడు pani-paḍu. v. n. To busy oneself with. to engage in, పూనుకొను. To concern oneself with, అక్కరపడు. పనివడి or పనిపడి pani-paḍi. adv. Intentionally. కావలెనని, ప్రయత్నపూర్వకముగా. 'పరులను పనిపడి దూషించెనేని పాపము వచ్చున్.' V. P. iv. 249. పనివాటులు jobs, work. పనిముట్టు or పనిమటము pani-muṭṭu. n. An instrument, tool, impelement. కొరముట్టు, ఉపకరణము. 'పనిమటములుగొంచు పయనమైరండు.' Pal. 314. పనివంచు, పని పంచు or పనిగొను pani-vanṭsu. v. a. To command. నియోగించు. పనివాడు pani-vāḍu. n. A servant: a good workman. పనివిను pani-vinu. v. n. To obtain permission, to take leave. To proceed, to go or come. 'దేవర కీర్తి వెక్కసంబుగ జెప్పవిని చూడగోరి, పనివిని నేను మాభాగ్యంబుకతన.' H.D.i. 847.

(p. 813) polamu polamu. [Tel.] n. A field, corn land. చేను, పైరుపెట్టునేల. A rice field, వరిపైరుపెట్టునేల. Uncultivated land on which cattle graze, పసులుమేయు భూమి. A forest, అడవి. A place, land, ground, ప్రదేశము. ఊరిపొలము the land attached to a village. వెలిపొలము the outlying fields belonging to a village. A village, ఊరు. A trace, ౛ాడ. Manner, విధము. పొలపు కూరలు field herbs, or ordinary herbs, as చెంచలి, చిట్లింత, పేరింత, పొన్నగంటి, మొదలైనవి. (These weeds infest fields sown with జొన్నలు, &c.) 'అప్పొలమువరాహపోతములు భూవర తొండములేని యేనుగుల్.' Swa. iv. 18. టీ అప్పొలము వరహపోతములు, అక్కడి అడవిపందిగున్నలు. 'గీ ఈ పొలములగుమహాధిక వ్రతములు దేహబాధకములు.' M. XII. iv. 361. ఈ పొలములగు, ఈ విధములైన పొలముపాటు polamu-pāṭu. n. Husbandry, పైరుపెట్టుట, కృషి, వ్యవసాయము. పొలకట్టు pola-kaṭṭu. ైోౌ n. A ploughed field. Kasi Yatra. 55. పొలమరి polam-ari. n. A cultivator. పొలముకాపు. 'పొలమరులందుకూతలిడ భూసురులన్నదివార్చివార్చి.' A. iii. 28. టీ పొలమరులు, పొలముచేయువారు. పొలవరి or పొలమరి polapari. (పొలము+అరి.) n. One who knows the signs, ౛ాడతెలిసినవాడు.

(p. 837) prayōgamu pra-yōgamu. [Skt.] n. An application, use or employment, as of a weapon, tool, word, or a spell. Administration of a medicine, నడుపుట. A usage. In grammar, a voice. కర్తృ కర్మ క్రియల కూడిక. మహాబిల్వాదిప్రయోగము a prescription of Bilwa and other drugs. దీనికి కాళిదాస ప్రయోగమున్ణది Kalidasa has used this word. యక్షీణీప్రయోగముచేయు to bewitch or send a devil into (a person.) ఈ ఔషధప్రయోగముచేసినాడు he administered this medicine. విషప్రయోగముచేసి చంపినాడు he killed him by means of poison. బాణప్రయోగముచేసినాడు he used an arrow, i.e., discharged it. ప్రయోగించు pra-yōginṭsu. v. a. To use, practise, administer; use, as a weapon. ఉపయోగించు. ప్రయోజకుడు pra-yōjakuḍu. n. One who uses. The original instigator of any act. A clever man, a genius. కార్యమును నెరవేర్చువాడు. వాడు శుద్ధ అప్రయోజకుడు he is quite a useless person. ప్రయోజనము pra-yōjanamu. n. Use, advantage, profit. A thing to be kept or observed, as a holy day, or a feast పండుగ. An affair, business. కార్యము. A cause, motive. హేతువు. శుభప్రయోజనము a happy occasion (as a wedding.) రేపు మాయింట్లో కొంచెము ప్రయోజనము గనుక రావడానికి వల్లలేదు I cannot come to-morrow as there are some rites to be observed at home. అక్కడికి నీవుపోయినందుకు ఏమి ప్రయోజనము what is the use (good, or advantage) of your going there? ప్రయోజనప్రస్తుతములకు వారిని మేముపిలువడములేదు we do not invite them to parties. In Grammar, ప్రయోజ్యకర్త the indirect agent (in the instrumental case.) ప్రయోజకకర్త the direct agent (in the nominative case.)
