(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 108) ākuñcanamu ā-kunchanamu. [Skt.] n. Contracting, drawing up, shrinking. Elasticity. ముడుచుట.

(p. 108) ākujella āku-jella. [Tel.] n. A kind of fish.

(p. 108) ākulamu ā-kulamu. [Skt.] adj. Troubled, distressed, confounded. ఆకులవడు ākula-paḍu. v. i. To be troubled or confounded. కలతపడు, చెదురు. ఆకులపాటు ākula-pāṭu. n. Agitation ఆకులపడుట.

(p. 123) ārdramu ārdramu. [Skt.] adj. Wet, damp, moist, imbued, steeped. తడిసిన. See ఆకుద్రపురుగు, దయార్ద్రదృష్టి with eyes moist with love or full of love. ఆర్ద్రకము ārdrakamu.n. Undried ginger. అలము.

(p. 151) uṭajamu uṭajamu. [Skt.] n. A hermitage: a cell formed of leaves. పర్ణశాల, ఆకుటిల్లు, ఇల్లు.

(p. 160) udvāgnamu ud-vignamu. [Skt.] adj. Disturbed, discomposed, disquieted, affected with fear or sorrow. ఆకులితమైన, కలవరము గానుండే.

(p. 223) kañcamu kanṭsamu. [Tel.] n. A metal plate or dish. కంచుకంచము a dish made of bell metal. మా కంచములో రాయి వేసినాడు he threw a stone into our place, i.e., took away our bread, he disturbed us. మందకంచము a dish which as a rim. ఆకుకంచము a dish which has none.

(p. 304) kūra kūra. [Tel.] n. A herb, herbs, vegetables, garden stuff. A mess of food, curry even including flesh. ఆకుకూరలు salads or leafy vegetables. కాయగూరలు or కూరగాయలు herbs that bear a fruit or pod, such as beans, peas, brinjals, melons &c. కూరనార herbs and so forth. కూరపనువు saffron which is added to curries కూరాకుపురుగు the canker worm that destroys herbs.

(p. 331) kōsu kōsu. [Eng.] n. A cabbage. Brassica Oleracca. (Watts.) ఆకుకోసు lettuce. మట్టకోసు cauliflower.

(p. 370) gīyu gīyu. [Tel.] v. a. To draw a line గీత గీయు. To scratch, or scrape. To strip off leaves: to tap a palm tree by cutting lines in it. ఆకులుగీసేకత్తి a large knife for stripping off leaves, a pruning knife. గీచు.

(p. 376) gunaguna guna-guna. [Tel.] n. (Anuk: of running), tripping along, trotting along. ఆ చెట్టు ఆకులు గునగున పెరిగినవి the leaves have come out very delicately కోమలముగా. గుండ్రాతికి కాళ్లు వచ్చి గునగుననడిచెను the stones moved slowly. 'గునగున చీమలు గుడ్లెత్తుకొనిపార.' Velag. iii. 4.

(p. 416) cinna chinna. [Tel.] adj. Small, little, short, young, mean, trifling, insignificant, narrow: disgraceful. ముఖము చిన్నచేసుకొను to be ashamed, to be downcast or sorrowful. Junior, Younger, smaller. చిన్నచూపు humiliation, scorn. దేవుడు చిన్నచూపుచూస్తే యెవరేమి చేయవచ్చును when God withdraws his favour what can man do? చిన్న ఆకురాయి chinna-ākurāyi. n. The Blackheaded Cuckoo-Shrike, Campophaga sykesi. (F.B.I.) చిన్నకారు chinna-kāru. n. Childhood, youth. చిన్నకారుపిల్లలు young children. చిన్నతనము chinna-tanamu. n. Infancy: littleness, smallness. Disgrace, dishonor. ఇందువల్ల కులమునకంతా చిన్నతనము వచ్చినది this is a disgrace to the whole caste. చిన్నది chinnadi. n. A little one. A girl, a lass. ఈ చిన్నది అతనిభార్య this girl is his wife. పెద్ద చిన్నది the eldest daughter; or, a grown girl.

(p. 416) cinni chinni. [Tel. an intensive of చిన్న.] adj. Little, Pretty మనోజ్ఞమైన. చిన్నిఆకుచెట్టు chinni-āku-cheṭṭu. n. The Birchleaved Acalypha, Acalypha fruticosa. (Watts.) చిన్నిచూపు chinni-ṭsūpu. n. Humiliation, looking downcast or foolish. చిన్నిదము a small flower చిన్నపువ్వు, gold బంగారు. చిన్నిపువు a kind of ornament, or, a salutation నమస్కృతి.
