(p. 120) ārati ārati. [Tel.] n. An oblation or wave offering, an offering of lights or of water, turmeric and chunam waved over a deity or over any individual to take off the supposed ill effects of the evil looks. హారతి or మంగళహారతి. (This ceremony answers to lustration or sprinkling with holy water.)

(p. 242) kannaḍamu kannaḍamu. [Tel.] n. The Canara or Carnatic; a name including the Telugu and Canarese countries. Canarese language. కన్నడ అక్షరము the Canarese character. కర్ణాటకము. కన్నడికలశము kannaḍi-kalaṣamu. n. The 'blessed light' or holy candle. See ఆరతి. కన్నడి or కన్నడీడు kannaḍi. n. A native of Canarese country. కర్ణాటదేశస్థుడు. Also, a contemner ఉపేక్షించువాడు.

(p. 661) nivāḷi , నివ్వాళి or నివాళిక nivāli [Tel.] n. Fumigation, for the sake of good luck. ఆరతి Burning incense. Pal. 126. నివాళించు nivāḷinṭsu. v. n. To bless, lustrate or purify by the ceremony of waving a lamp. ఆరతియెత్తు, నివాళి ఒసగు to fumigate in order to avert evil.

(p. 667) nīrājanamu nīrājanamu. [Skt.] n. Fumigation; waving a lamp, or burning camphor, &c., before an idol in homage or over a person, as a spell to avert an evil eye. ఆరతి, మంగళహారతి, నివాళింపు.

(p. 932) maṅgaḷamu mangalamu. [Skt.] n. Happiness, good fortune, well-being, welfare, prosperity. శుభము, క్షేమము. The lines at the opening of a poem in praise of some deity adj. Happy, lucky, fortunate, auspicious, prosperous, faring well. శుభమైన. నీకు మంగళమగుగాక blessings upon thee. మంగళదేవత mangaḷa-dēvata. n. Lakshmi. మంగళవారము mangaḷa-vāramu. n. A lamp used for waving before an idol, శుభకరమైన ఆరతి. Also, the closing verse of a play, the denouement. మంగళాష్టకము a particular kind of song. మంగళాశాసనము mangaḷā-ṣāsanamu. n. A benediction, ఆశీర్వాదము. మంగళుడు man-gaḷuḍu. n. A name of Angāraka, who corresponds to Mars, అంగారకుడు. మంగళ్యము mangaḷyamu. n. The peepul tree. రావిచెట్టు, ౛మ్మిచెట్టు.

(p. 1387) hārati, ārati or మంగళహారతి hārati. [from Skt. ఆరాత్రికమ్.] n. A waveoffering to a deity. An offering of camphor, &c., presented on marriages or such like festivities to prevent the bad effects of an evil eye. దీపహారతి an offerring of lights. ధూపహారతి an offering of burning incense. కర్పూరహారతి an offering of lighted camphor. కుంబహారతి an offering of a vase with a lamp on its mouth. హారతిపాటలు songs sung at the time of offering camphor to a deity or on festive occasions, having the phrase హారతులెత్తరే as a chorus.
