(p. 165) uppu uppu. [Tel.] n. Salt. పెట్లుప్పు saltpetre. రాతి ఉప్పు rook salt. వెదురు ఉప్పు a sort of gum (tabasheer. Ainslie 1. 420.) found in the hollows of the bamboo. కప్పురంబు పెట్టి ఉప్పు కొనుట. (A. vi. 75.) To give camphor for salt, that is, what is valuable for what is worthless. ఉప్పుకండ uppu-kaṇḍa. n. Dried flesh, salt meat. ఉప్పుకాయ uppu-kāya. n. Salted fruit, pickle. ఉప్పు కాపడమిచ్చు to foment with heated salt. ఉప్పుకల్లు or ఉప్పురాయి a grain of salt. ఉప్పుచేప uppu-chēpa. n. A salt pen, salt-bed. ఉప్పు మిడత uppu-miḍata. n. A kind of large black cricket. ఉప్పు రేవు uppu-rēvu. n. A place where salt is manufactured: ఉప్పురియు upp-uriyu. v. i. To moulder. ఉప్పురిసిపోయిన mouldering, dilapidated. కప్పురిసిన యిల్లు a house that sweats salt or that is going to decay. ఉప్పు సముద్రము uppu-samudramu. n. The ocean or salt sea.

(p. 165) uppu uppu. [Tel.] v. t. To cook or boil. To steam or scald grain. ఉడకబెట్టు, ఆవిరిపోక ఉడకబెట్టు. ఉప్పినపిండి flour boiled in steam. ఉప్పుడు uppuḍu. adj. Malted. ఉప్పుడు బియ్యము malted rice. ఉప్పుడు పసుపు kiln dried turmeric.

To turn grey, as hair నెరయు. To ripen పక్వమగు. To pine away పరితపించు. ఉరుపు urupu. n. Leaking, soaking through. ఉరియుట.

(p. 218) ōra ōra. [Tel.] n. The side, border, edge. అంచు. A whole day and night అహోరాత్రము. ఒక ఓరను ఉంటిమి we stood on one side. ఓరగా sidelong, sideways. తలుపోరగా చేసెor ఓరవాకిలి చేసినది she opened the door a little, or, set it a jar. ఓరబోయి becoming crooked వంకరపోయి. BD. vi. ఓరచూపు ōra-ṭsūpu. n. A sidelong glance. బెళుకుటోర యొయారపు చూపు leeringly. ఓరంతపొద్దు ōranta-poddu. (ఓర+అంత+ప్రొద్దు) the livelong day, all day long, దినమంతయు, ఆసాయము. Also, a little రవంత, ఇసుమంత. 'ఉప్పులేకుండన నోరంతప్రొద్దు చప్పిడితాగిన సాగునే కాళ్లు? రాలేకొదుగబడి రాకయున్నాడు.' Pal. 316.

(p. 236) kaḍḍāyamu kaḍḍāyamu. [Tel.] n. Compulsion, force: exaction: forcing people to pay the price set upon articles బోము, బలాత్కారము. వడ్డగడ్డాయము. ఉప్పుకడ్డాయము an order to receive grain or salt at a high price.

(p. 251) karavāḍu or కరవడి kara-vāḍu. [Tel.] n. Salt fish. ఉప్పుచేప. Dried fish ఎండినచేప.

(p. 385) gelli gelli. [Tel.] n. A heap, particularly a heap of salt. ఉప్పురాశి.

(p. 487) ṭ ṭa. The name of a letter. In composition this is sometimes changed into డ thus చేటుపాటు chēṭu-pāṭu. becomes ఛేడ్పాటు chēḍ-pāṭu. Colloquially it changes into ష. Thus అటువంటి, అఘవంటి as, in English, intention is pronounced intenshun. This letter ట is sometimes inserted to prevent elision. ఉప్పు+ఏరు (uppu-ēru) becomes ఉప్పుటేరు (uppu-ṭē-ru.) a salt river. పెంకు+ఇల్లు, పెండుటిల్లు. This may happen even where the first word is Sanskrit, thus: మదపుటేనుగు.

(p. 654) nimittamu nimittamu. [Skt.] n. A cause, reason, motive, mark, sign, token, omen. హేతువు, చిహ్నము, గురి, శకునము, దుర్నిమిత్తము a bad omen. As an affix: Respecting, regarding, on account of, because of. అందునిమిత్తము for that reason, therefore ఉప్పునిమిత్తము పోయినది she is gone for salt. ఆ యాస్తికిని నాకును నిమిత్తము లేకుండా చేసినారు they cut me off from the estate. దీన్ని అడగడమునకు నీకేమి నిమిత్తము what business have you to ask this? అతని దర్శననిమిత్తమై పోతిని I went to visit him. నిమిత్తముమాలినపని an unreasonable act. నిమిత్తముమాలినమాట a groundless assertion. నానిమిత్తమై నీవు కొంచెము ప్రయాసపడవలెను you must take a little trouble for me, or on my account.

(p. 710) para para. [Tel.] n. A measure with which chunam, &c., is measured. A salt marsh, ఉప్పుపండుబయలు, పర్ర. A plain, బయలు. ఇసుకపర a sandy plain. ఇసుకపరగానుండే sandy. A series, వరుస. A multitude, సమూహము. అంపర ampara. (అమ్ము+పర.) n. A shower or series of arrows. adj. Another. ఇతరము. Much, great, మిక్కిలి, గొప్ప. పరమెయిళులు great clouds.

(p. 780) pūyu pūyu. [Tel.] v. n. To bear or produce, as flowers. పూచు ఆ భూమి ఉప్పుపూస్తున్నది that ground produces salt. v. a. To smear, besmear, daub, anoint, lay on, apply (oil, paint. medicine, &c.) ఒంటికి గంధము పూసికొనుట rubbing oneself with sandal paste. పూయించు pūyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to apply or smear, paint, oil, &c. ఇంటికి సున్నము పూయించితిని or వేయించితిని I got my house whitewashed.

(p. 984) miḍata or మిడుత miḍata. [Tel. from మిడియు.] n. A grasshopper, locust, or cricket. శలభము. ఆకుమిడత a green grasshopper. మిడతంభట్ల జోస్యము a happy hit. వెదురు మిడత the cricket that bores the bamboo. ఉప్పుమిడత a large kind of cricket. గొల్ల మిడత or గొల్లభామ a grasshopper. జెట్టి మిడత the wrestler locust, so named from its strength.
