(p. 231) kaṭṭu kaṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. To tie, bind. బంధించు. To wear, as clothes. ధరించు. To connect, affix, attach. To store up, to lay by. కూడబెట్టు. 'క మున్ కట్టిన కర్మఫలంబులు నెట్టన భోగింపకుండ నేర్తురెపమనుజుల్.' భార. అది. v. To build, erect, నిర్మించు. To fascinate, charm, bewitch. To fabricate, compose, or put a story together. కల్పించు. కట్టుకథ a mere fiction or fable. To impute a sin or offence. దానికి రంకుకట్టిరి they charged her with adultery. తప్పుకట్టు to find fault with, to lay blame on నేరము మోపు. నడుముకట్టు to gird up the loins or be prepared. కనుకట్టువిద్య jugglery, legerdemain. తోటకు నీళ్లుకట్టు to water a garden. గాయముకట్టు to dress a wound. బండికట్టు to get ready a carriage. కత్తికట్టు to put on one's sword or arm oneself. రూకలుకట్టు to pay money. మగ్గములకు పన్ను కట్టినారు they fixed a tax on looms. నిలువకట్టు to strike a balance. ధరకట్టు to set a price. పద్యముకట్టు to compose a verse. ఓడకు చాపకట్టు to set sail. వాకట్టు strike dumb by spells, &c. ఈ మాటను కట్టివిడిచినారు they fabricated this story or scandal. దోవకట్టు to stop up the road. దోవకట్టి దోచినారు they lay in ambuscade and plundered the way farers. కడుపుకట్టు to restrain the appetite. కట్టని (neg. p) Unbuilt or unbound. కట్టని కల్లుకోట a rock fortress not built with hands. కట్టనిగూడు (P. i. 545.) a natural nest, not constructed.

(p. 237) katti katti. [Tel.] n. A knife. A sword. తీసినకత్తితీరు బిత్తలియై నిలిచినది she stood as a drawn sword. A measure of land, which differs in various districts. It is considered to be as much as a man can reap in one day. In the Government accounts a 'cutty' is rated at 40 acres and 14 గుంటలు (q. v.) This phrase, which means a 'sword of land' implies that this quantity of land was assigned to a family which furnished the feudal lord one fighting man. కత్తికట్టేదొర katti-kaṭṭē-dora. An officer, a gentleman who wears a sword. కత్తికాసు katti-kāsu. n. A carpenter's tool for squaring. కత్తిపిట్టి katti-piṭṭa. The Cuckoo called Hierococcyx varius. చిన్న కత్తిపిట్ట The Indian plaintive cuckoo, Cacomantis passcrinus. (F.B.I.) కత్తిపిడిక a basket in which a toddy drawer keeps his knives ఈండ్రవాని కత్తుల బుట్ట. కత్తిపీట katti-pīṭa. n. A large knife standing slantwise in a block of wood upon which vegetables are sliced. కత్తిబళ్లెము katti ballemu. A 'sword spear,' a scythe-like blade mounted as a spear.

(p. 370) gīta gīta. [Tel.] n. A line: lancing or pricking a tree. గీతగీపేకాలము the season for tapping the palm tree. గీతరట్ట gīta-kaṭṭe. n. A tool used by carpenters for drawing parallel lines, also called కత్తికాసు.

(p. 601) dunedāri or దునేదారి dune-dāri. [Tel.] n. One who carries a sword in hand. కత్తికట్టిన శూరుడు. A hero, శూరుడు.

(p. 706) padunu or పదను padunu. [Tel. పది+ఉను.] n. Time, season, సమయము. Temper, sharpness, whetting, వాడి. Moisture, తడి. Goodness of metal. The right degree of softness (in boiled areca nut, &c.) పరిపాకము. ఆ కత్తికి పదును రాలేదు that knife is not properly tempered. దున్నడమునకు ఆ నేల పదునుగా నుండలేదు the ground is not sufficiently moist for ploughing. ఉక్కును కాచడములో పదును తప్పినది he failed in giving the right temper to the steel. 'పదునైనబలువాడిమెరుగువాలు.' HK. iv. 193. పదనుకొను padanu-konu. v. n. To become wet or moist, తడియు. 'సానబట్టిన రాపొడిచల్లి మెదపి. పదనునుధనిడిచేసెనోపద్మభవుడు.' Swa. ii. 40. టీ పదను, చేతితడి. పదను పెట్టేరాయి a bone or whetstone. ఒకపదునువాన one moistening of rain, i.e., so much rain as renders the earth fit for ploughing. One పదను or wetting sinks into the ground about the depth of a plough share: equivalent to 'one inch of rain.' పదునుచేయు to moisten. పొగాకుపదునుచేయు to prepare or cure tobacco in a particular way. పదునుపెట్టు to set or sharpen.

(p. 717) parijiñcu or పర్జించు parijinṭsu. [Tel. from పరు౛ు] v. a. to seize the hilt. కత్తికటారి మొదలయిన వాటిని పట్టు, పరు౛ుతో పట్టు. 'పరువడించి కటారిపర్జించినిల్చి' A. vi. 100.

(p. 1022) metta metta. [Tel.] adj. Soft, mild, gentle, మెత్తని, మృదువైన.n. Bedding, a mattress, cushion, pad. పరుపు, సాగరముమోసే యెద్దు గంతమీదిపరుపు. A saddle or numdah, గుర్రపుపల్లము. మెత్తగా metta-gā. adv. Softly, slowly. మృదువుగా. మెత్తగా పిండికొట్టు to pound or beat fine. మెత్తగిల్లు metta-gillu. v. n. To become soft, మెత్తనగు. మెత్తడి mettaḍi. n. A sprat, a small inferior fish. ఒకచేప. మెత్తన mettana. n. Softness, మృదుత్వము. Mildness, slowness. శాంతి. 'చిత్తంబులోగల శిక్షచేయించు, కత్తికిమెత్తనగలదెయెందైన.' Sar. D. 584. చెయ్యిమెత్తనచేయు to grease one's palm or to bribe. adj. Soft, gentle, మృదువైన. adv. Softly, straight, తిన్నగా మెత్తని mettani. adj. Soft, mild, slow, yielding, meek, మృదువైన. మెత్తనివాడు a soft, patient man. మెత్తపడు or మెత్తబారు metta-pa-ḍu. v. n. To soften. మృదువగు. To be mollified, yield, శాంతపడు, అణగు. మెత్తపాటు metta-pāṭu. n. Softness, మృదుత్వము. Delay, ఆలస్యము.
