(p. 37) aḍugu aḍugu. [Tel.] n. The foot, the footstep, a pace, step, the bottom, basis. A foot in length containing twelve inches. A line of verse. Thus four 'feet' make one stanza, or quatrain. చెట్టు అడుగు the foot of a tree. అడుగురాయి a stone at the bottom కొండ అడుగుననుండే ఊరు a village at the foot of a mountain. ఆ కథను అడుగునుంచి చెప్పు tell the story from the beginning. కుండ అడుగు the bottom of a pot. అడుగంటకోయు to cut off by the root. అడుగుతో పెళ్లగించు to eradicate, to root out. అడుగారిపోవు to be utterly ruined. నా మాటకు అడుగుదాటకు do not transgress my command. వాని అడుగుల జాడ పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they traced his footsteps and followed him. అడుగడుగున or అడుగడుగునకు step by step, now and then, often. అన్నము అడుగంటినది the rice has burnt at the bottom of the pot.

(p. 238) katha katha. [Skt.] n. A book containing a legendary tale. ఇంచుకసత్యమైన కల్పిత ప్రబంధము. A story, tale, fable, chronicle: a riddle or puzzle. కథవేయు. v. n. To give a riddle to be solved. కథకుడు katha-kuḍu. n. A chronicler. A story teller కథ చెప్పువాడు. కథనము kathanamu. n. Telling చెప్పడము. కథించు kathinṭsu. v. t. To tell, relate, narrate చెప్పు. 'కథింతునీ కజోరికయలరన్' హరి. ఉ. v. కథితము kathi-tamu. adj. Said, that which is said చెప్పబడిన.

(p. 659) nirdēśamu nir-dēṣamu. [Skt.] n. An order or command: an instruction, direction. ఆజ్ఞ. Telling, కథనము, చెప్పుట. Nearness, ఉపాంతము, సమీపము, నిర్దేశించు nir-dēṣinṭsu. v. a. To appoint, to command. ఆజ్ఞాపించు. నిర్దిష్టము nir-dishṭamu. adj. Commanded, ordered. నిర్ధేశింపబడిన. నిర్దేశ్యము nir-dēṣyamu. adj. Fit to be ordered or commanded. నిర్దేశింపదగిన. నిర్దేష్ట nir-dēshṭa. n. One who gives a command or order. నిర్దేశించువాడు.

(p. 784) peñcu or పెనుచు penṭsu. [Tel. from పెను.] v. a. To nourish, support, take care of. To adopt or rear a child, పోషించు, సాకు. To increase, improve. To extend or swell. To exaggerate, to multiply. మాంసము మాంసమును పెంచును flesh meat increases the flesh. కలహము పెంచినాడు he fomented the quarrel. గ్రంథము ఊరక పెంచెను he spun the story (or book) out. గడ్డము పెంచు to grow or wear a beard తలపెంచు to wear one's hair long, to keep one's head unshorn. చెవులుపెంచు or చెవులు కుట్టించు to bore the ears. Chenn. iii.145. ముక్కుపెంచు to keep a hole open for a nose-jewel. దుఃఖముపెంచు to indulge in grief, దుఃఖముపొందు, దుఃఖించు. ND. i. 702. రోగమును పెంచినాడు he increased the illness. కథనుపెంచు to exaggerate. See పెంపు & పెంపకము. పెంచుకొను penṭsu-konu. v. a. To adopt. దత్తుతీసికొను.

(p. 1180) vippu vippu. [Tel.] v. a. To open, untie, loose. ముడివిప్పు to unite a knot. కథను విప్పు to solve a riddle. ఆ సంగతిని విప్పి చెప్పినాడు he explained the matter clearly. కంకణాలు విప్పేదాకా until the marriage was over. n. Loosing, opening, untying. విరియు, విప్పడము, వీడడము. Extension, spreading, విస్తారత, బాహుళ్యము, వైశాల్యము. 'సీ భద్రోత్థ హతవలత్కద్రూజమనజుట్ట తోవిప్పుతోదరిదొండమాడ.' A. iv. 192. adj. Extensive. large, విస్తారమైన. 'విప్పుకప్పగు గొప్పకొప్పున విరినల్లగలువలదండలు చెలువుమీర.' T. iv. 144. విప్పుగా vippu-gā. adv. Extensively, greatly, widely. విస్తారముగా. 'వింతసంతన జేసివిప్పుగా దోసినహురు మంజిపూసల మెరుగుకుచ్చు.' H. iv. 134. 'విప్పుగవిరితేనెవావవిడిబడిగురియన్.' ib. ii. 81. విప్పగు vipp-agu. adj. Large, great, wide. విశాలమైన. 'ఆప్పెనువేసవివిభవము విప్పగుదన్నగరనికట వృషగిరిహరికిన్.' A. ii. 83.

(p. 1269) saṅkīrtanamu san-kīrtanamu. [Skt.] n. Celebration, praising, honour, glorification, స్తోత్రము, గుణకథనము, స్తవనము.

(p. 1318) sākalyamu sākalyamu. [Skt. from సకలము.] n. The whole, the total, all, entirety, సకలత్వము, సమస్తము, యావత్తు. ఆ కథను సాకల్యముగా (or ససాకల్యముగా) చెప్పుము tell the whole story.
