(p. 234) kaḍa kaḍa. [Tel.] n. A place, quarter, or direction. దిక్కు, పార్శ్వము. The end, extremity అంతము. Distance దూరము. Proximity, సమీపము. ఇరుగడ on both sides. కట్టకడ at the very end. కడకు at last చివరకు. వెలిగడ dry ground. పరగడ a neighbouring field. తలగడ a pillow, being the place of head. చెట్టుకడ at the tree. అతని కడకు వచ్చిరి they came to him. కడ adj. Last. అంత్యము కడసారి the last time. కడ (affix) By, near, at. The last male child కనిష్ఠుడు. కడసారి kada-sāri. adj & adv. Last, the last time.

(p. 239) kaddu kaddu. [Tel. for కలదు.] It is; it happens usually. It is the case. --See కలుగు. అట్లా చెప్పడముకద్దు it is usual to say so. అట్లా ఉండడముకద్దు it frequently is the case. అమావాస్య రెండు దినములు కద్దనగా two days before new moon. (Lit. when they said, after two days it will be new moon). It is opposed to లేదు, thus కద్దులేదనక he neither said yes nor no.

(p. 239) kaddumu kaddumu. [Tel.] adj. Thick, dense. దట్టము.

(p. 259) kalugu or కల్గు kalugu. [Tel.] v. n. To live exist. To be. ఉండు. To happen, occur. To become అగు. To endure ఓపు. To be born పుట్టు. To meet కూడు. ఒక రాజుకలడు there was a certain king. అతనికి పిల్లలుకలిగి children being born to him. సొమ్ముకలవాడు one who has money. నాకు న్యాయము కలిగినది I got justice. అట్లా అనడముకద్దు (or కలదు) it is usual to say so. పనికలిగి వచ్చిరి they came about some business. వ్రాయగలడు he can write. అట్లా మేము చెల్లించగలవారము కాము we are not liable to pay this money. వీరాదిగాగలరాజులు (RYD. 2060) these and other princes. తెలివిగలవాడు a man of sense. యాభైయేండ్లుగలవాడు aged fifty. To be sore. వానికి కండ్లుకలిగినవి he has sore eyes. v. t. To have, to show కలిగియుండు, కనుపరుచు. 'కరుణగలుగుమ్మ కమలనేత్ర.' (భార. అది. viii.)

(p. 549) tera tera. [Tel.] n. A screen, curtain, a blind. A veil, a cover of any kind. సురుగుచీర, అడ్డువల. A plain or space. బయలు. A billow or surge అల. దోమతెర a mosquito curtain. నాతెర the lips. A time, one bout. ఒకతెర once మరియొకతెర again. తెరయెత్తన్ wave upon wave, in waves, tumultuously, 'పొంగికరుడులెత్తగా.' Vijaya. ii. 19. తెరతెర wave after wave. a series పరంపర. adj. Spread out, open as a plain. Gaping, open as the mouth. తెరనోరుగల open mouthed. తేనెతెర tenetera. n. A honey comb. తెరపారు terapāru. v. n. To curdle, to coagulate, to congeal as water or other liquid. తెరకట్టు ఎండతెరతీసి బయలు వెడలినది the sun broke through the clouds. వైష్ణవులకు తెరచాటుకద్దు the Vaishnavas always are behind a screen, particularly while cating. తెరల గాగిన overpowering, terrible, ఉల్భణమైన. తెరలాడు tera-l-āḍu. P. iv. 255. తెరయీగ tera-y-īga. n. A bee. తేనెటీగ. M. VII. i. 236. తెరవేటు tera-vēṭa. n. 'Screen hunting.' in which the huntsmen use screens to conceal themselves, a hunt wherein hurdles or screens are placed around the hunting ground. A. iv. 154.

Looseness, i.e., lewdness. జ్వరమునకు తెరపి చిక్కినది there was an intermission of the fever. తెరపలగా or తెరపతెరపగా loosely, here and there, scatteredly. వాన తెరపి యియ్యలేదు the rain did not cease. తరవ. adj. Open, సంధుగల. తెరసమాటలు down-rightness, plain speaking, plain language. తెరపుమరపు or తెరుపుమరుపు terapu-marapu. n. Dementation. మతితప్పి నప్పుడు కలుగు తబ్బిబ్బు. Sense and nonsense: absence of mind, forgetfulness. ఎవరికిన్ని తెరుపుమరుపుకద్దు every man has his wise and foolish fits.

(p. 704) padaṭamu or పడటు padaṭamu. [Tel.] n. Precipitation, hurry. ఆత్రము, దుడుకు, తత్తరము. 'ఇంకన్ బదటముచే నించుకైన భాషింపకు.' S. iii. 305. వానికి చెయ్యిపదటము కద్దు he is given to pilfering. దానికి నోరు పదటము she is foul mouthed woman.

To sound or ring. అందుకు సాక్షులను పలికించినాడు he proved this by witnesses, he called witnesses to prove it. పలుకు పడతి or పలుకుచెలి paluku-paḍati. n. The goddess of speech, Sarasvati, వాగ్దేవి, సరస్వతి. పలుకరించు, పలకరించు or పల్కరించు palukarinṭsu. v. n. To speak. మాటాడు. (p. 732) pākamu pākamu. [Skt.] n. Cooking, dressing food, boiling, వంట. Maturity, natural or artificial, as the state of being cooked or ripened. పరిపాకము. The style of an author: the chief distinctions of which are కదళీపాకము the plantain style, which is easily comprehended, the plantain being quite soft and without stones: ద్రాక్షాపాకము or grape style, which is very superior and more difficult, to understand, and నారికేళపాకము or cocoanut style, which is puzzling and dry, requiring time and consideration to digest it. దేహపాకము the constitution of the body. ఆమెకు పాకశుద్ధికద్దు she is a good cook. లేహ్యపాకము the concoction or preparation of medicine. పాకగేహము pāka-gēhamu. n. A kitchen. వంటయిల్లు.

(p. 732) pāku or ప్రాకు pāku. [Tel.] To creep or crawl. పాకించు pākinṭsu. v. a. To train, as a vine or other creeper. పాకుడు or ప్రాకుడు pākuḍu. n. A trellis for a vine or other creeper. Anything that spreads or creeps; mossiness; the scum or greenness on putrid water. Dirt on the teeth. పండ్లపాచి. Dirt, nastiness, మాలిన్యము. పాకులాడు pākul-āḍu. To creep or crawl. To scramble. పరులను పట్టుకొని పాకులాడితే యేమికద్దు why ask the help of strangers. పాకొను or ప్రాకొను pā-konu. v. n. To attach itself to, or to stick to, as dirt or moss. పాకొన్ననుయి a green pool. 'పాకొన్న నూతియుకము, మేకలపాడియునురో తమేదినిసుమతీ.'

(p. 970) māṭa māṭa. [Tel.] n. A word, పదము. A promise, వాగ్దత్తము, ప్రతిజ్ఞావచనము. Slander, నింద. Opinion, rumour, వృత్తాంతము. అతడు నీ మాట చెప్పలేదు he did not speak of you. ఇది వేరే మాట this is another affair, another thing. వానిమాటకాదు this is not about him, I am not talking about him. గడియకు ఒకమాట చెప్పినాడు he changed his mind every hour. మంచిమాట (interj.) Very well. దాన్ని గురించి రెండో మాటలేదు there is no alternative. వారివిద్ద మాటలుపడినాడు he was reproached or reprimanded by them. In some phrases the word మాట need not be translated. Thus, ఆమె తిరిగీ వస్తున్నదనేమాట తెలిసి knowing that she would return. నేను దానిని కొన్నమాట రూఢి it is very true I bought it. ఆమాటే యెరుగను I know nothing of it. ఇందుచేత మాటవచ్చును by this you will get into disgrace. అతడు మాటతప్పలేదు he did not fail in his promise. మాట తప్పినవాడు మాలవాడు a promise breaker is a pariah, i.e., is a mean wretch. నేను పోయినమాట వానికి ఎట్లా తెలిసినది how did he know that I was gone? అతడు పోయేమాట ఉండేమాటా does he propose to go or stay? వాడు ఉండేమాట యింకా తెలియలేదు I do not as yet know that he will remain. మాటకుమాట word for word, literally. నా మాట అడుగుదాటకు transgress not my command. తనమీద మాటరాకుండా ఇట్లా చేసెను he did this to avoid blame. మాటవినుట to obey. ఎంతమాట what nonsense! వానిమాట వాని ఒడిలో వేసినాను I acted as he desired. నీకు మాట నాకు మూట a command is easy to give but hard to perform, or a word from you will make me rich. వెయ్యిమాటలేల why discuss it at length, in a word. ఆ పెండ్లి మాట యీ గ్రంథములో లేదు there is no mention of the marriage in this book నామాటవేరు, నీమాట వేరు I say one thing you say another, my opinion is different from yours, my case is quite different from yours. వానికి నాకు మాటలు లేవు he and I are not on speaking terms. వానితో నీకేమిమాటలు why do you speak with him? ఈమాట వింటే ఆయన యేమనును if he hears of this what will he say? కడపటిమాటయేమి what was the upshot of the business? ఇప్పట్లో వాని మాట సాగదు he has now no influence. కడకు వానిమాటే ముందరికివచ్చినది at last his words proved true. దానిని గురించి ఇంకా యేమాటా తెలియలేదు I do not yet know the result. మాటలకు పట్టుకొంటే విడవడు if he begins talking he will never stop. అదెక్కడిమాట what nonsense! such a thing is impossible. మాటలు మంచివే కాణి మనసు మంచిదికాదు he talks well but has a bad heart. ఇంకా మాటలు రాని బిడ్డ a child that cannot yet speak. వానికి ఆ ఊరిలో మాట వాసికద్దు లేక మాట సాగుతుంది he has influence in the town. ఆయన మాటకు ఎదురులేదు his word is law. మాటలకుమాత్రము పేదరికములేదు as far as words go he is rich enough. ఒక మాట యిచ్చి పదిమాటలు తీసుకొన్నాడు his reproaches were returned ten-fold. మాటకాడు māṭa-kāḍu. n. A good public speaker, సభయందు భయములేక మాటాడువాడు, వక్త. మాటకారి māṭa-kāri. n. A skilful speaker, యుక్తిగా మాటాడువాడు. A talkative person, వాచాలుడు. మాటలమారి māṭala-māri. n. A talkative person, మిక్కిలి మాటాడువాడు. మాటలాడు, మాటాడు or మాట్లాడు māṭa-l-āḍu. v. n. To speak, talk, converse, to reproach. నన్నెందుకు ఊరికె మాటలాడుతావు why reproach me for nothing? S. iii. 41.

(p. 995) mukku or ముకు mukku. [Tel.] n. The nose. నాసిక. The bill or beak of a bird, పక్షిముఖము. The point or tip. చనుముక్కు a nipple. ముక్కు౛ోడనలు a double nose. ౛మిలిముక్కు. 'మునవనల్ దమిబట్టి ముంగాళ్ల ముక్కుజోడనలచీలిచి.' A. v. 122. ముక్కుడుస్సిన uncurbed, broken loose, rampant, ముక్కుతాడుతీసిన. 'వసుధేశముక్కుడుస్సిన పసరముక్రియ.' A. vi. 53. ముక్కుబంటి యైనదనుక satiating his nostrils with fragrance to the full. P. iii. 224. చిలుకముక్కులు and జీనువముక్కులు two sorts of grain. రెండుముక్కులపిట్ట (the double beaked bird) also called మూడు ముక్కలపిక్క and ఎబ్బెరపిక్క the Hornbill, or Toucan. Jerdon. No. 198. 'ముండగోష్ఠికి ముక్కు మొగమేడతనకు.' HD. ii. 1059. ముక్కు మొగము ఎగనట్టు మాట్లాడినాడు he talked as if I was a perfect stranger to him. ముక్కుపట్టనిముత్తెము a pearl not suited to the nose, i.e., a round man in a square hole. ముక్కుకమ్మిక a certain useless forest tree. ముక్కు mukku. v. n. To moan, groan. To mould or turn musty. To spoil or become half rotten. To strain or press, (as in pain.) ముక్క mukka. (Root in A of ముక్కు to be musty or mouldy, &c.) ముక్కపురుగులు weevils in spoilt grain, తవుటిపురుగులు. ముక్కకంపు a frowzy smell. తర్వాత తొండూరిగ్రామము ముక్క ఉరికినందున ఆ నెత్తము విరిచిరి a disease has appeared which is peculiar to that place. ముత్యాలు ముక్కిపోయినవి the pearls were spoiled. ముక్కుగోళ్లు, ముకుగోళ్లు, ముకుగ్రోళ్లు, ముక్కు జెరములు, ముక్కుచెరములు or ముక్కురంధ్రములు mukkugōḷḷu. n. plu. The nostrils. నాసాపుటములు. ముక్కుత్రాడు or ముకుత్రాడు a nose-rope used for curbing oxen. ముక్కుదొమ్మ or ముకుదొమ్మ mukku-domma. n. A sort of fish. H. iv. 225. ముక్కద్దము mukk-addamu. n. A pair of spectacles, సులోచనము, కంటిఅద్ధము. ముక్కమ్మి or ముక్కుకమ్మి muk-kammi. (ముక్కు + కమ్మి.) or ముక్కర mukka-ra. (ముక్కు + రాయి.) n. A nose ring. నాసాభరణము. ముక్కరమాను mukkara-mānu. n. The frame in which the roller (పుల్లిరుసు) of a కపిల well rolls. ముక్కరము muk-ka-ramu. (ముక్కు + కారెము.) n. A nostril, నాసికారంధ్రము. ముక్కిడి mukkiḍi (ముక్కు + ఇడి) adj. Noseless. ముక్కులేని. ముక్కిడిరోగము caries of the bones of the nose. 'ముక్కిడి తొత్తుకు ముత్తెంపునత్తేల.' రామలింగశతకము. ముక్కిడి or కొండముక్కిడి. n. A certain large tree, Schrebera swietenoides. Rox. i. 109. ముక్కుదూలము or ముకుదూలము mukku-dūlam. n. The bridge or division of the nose. ముక్కునడిమియెముక. ముక్కుపురిడి or ముక్కుపూరేడుపిట్ట mukku-puriḍi. n. The common snipe. (p. 996) mukhamu mukhamu. [Skt.] n. The mouth, నోరు. The face, countenance, మొగము. The commencement, ఆరంభము. The front, ముందటిభాగము. The external appearance, the look of the face, ముఖవిలాసము. నిశాముఖము nightfall, evening. సేనాముఖము the front of the army. నఖముఖములు the points of the nails. ముఖమిచ్చు to indulge. అతడు వారితో ముఖమిచ్చి మాట్లాడలేదు he did not speak with them as a friend. 'బల్దూరంబైన శ్మశానవాటి ముఖమాలోకింపగన్.' Bilh. iii. 25. అధోముఖుడుగానుండినాడు he was hanging with his head down. ఆ దివిటీని అధోముఖముగాపట్టినాడు he held the torch with the flaming end downwards. 'అనుఘకథాముఖంబున హితాహిత బోధమొనర్తురింపుగా.' Mand. i. 8. టీ కాథా ముఖంబున by means of a story, కథచేతను అర్ధముఖము the profile or half face. తమరు రామునిముఖముచూచి నన్ను రక్షింపవలసినది I pray that for the sake of Rama you will relieve me. పడమటిముఖముగా towards the west. పడమటిముఖముగా నుండే యిల్లు a house facing the west. ఆడదానిముఖమెరుగనివాడు a youth that as yet knows not the face of a woman, i.e., entirely chaste. అందరును ఏకముఖముగా నుండలేదుగనుక as they were not unanimous or were not all of one mind. 'బాణకృపాణముఖాస్త్ర శస్త్రములు,' M. VII. ii. 275; arrows, swords, and other weapons. ముఖముమాడ్చుకొనినాడు he looked sulky or angry. వానికి ముఖము చచ్చినది he turned pale, he looked blank or ashamed. ముఖదాక్షిణ్యము complaisance. వానిముఖములో ఈగ ఆడలేదు he was all in a pucker. ఆ రూకలను వాని ముఖముమిద పారవేయుము fling the money at his face. అది వానికి ముఖపాఠముగానున్నది he has got it by heart. వాడు ముఖప్రితి మాటలాడును he talks plausibly. ముఖమెరుగనివాడు a stranger. ముఖమెరుగనిదేశము a strange land, a land where one has no acquaintance. ముఖవాసికలవాడు he is a winning man. వానికి ముఖవశ్యముకద్దు he is a very taking man. ముఖము తప్పించుకొనిపోయినాడు he has absconded or disappeared. ముఖస్తుతి flattery. ముఖస్తుతిచేయు to flatter. వాని కాశ్లోకము ముఖస్థముగానున్నది he knows the verse by heart. ముఖద్వారము mukhadvāramu. n.
