(p. 2) aṅkakāḍu anka-kāḍu. [Tel. Kan. అంకకాఱ.] n. One who is distinguished by a sign, గురుతుకలవాడు. The leader. One who excites quarrels. కలహప్రియుడు. 'అమరుడు కలహమున కంకకాడయి కాలు ద్రవ్య.' ఆముక్త. v. 84.

(p. 2) aṅkavaṅka anka-vanka. [Tel.] n. Softness, pliability, submissiveness. ఆపె అంకవంకలకు రాదు She is stubborn.

(p. 5) aṅgamu angamu. [Skt.] n. The body, a limb, member, part, division or branch. అంగవంచకము = ఉపాయము, సహాయము, దేశకాలవిభజనము, ఆపదకు ప్రతిక్రియ, కార్యసిద్ధి. అద్భుతాంగులు beings having wondrous forms. అష్టాంగములు = the eight forms or stages of meditation, i. e, యమము, నియమము, ప్రాణాయామము, ప్రత్యాహారము, ధ్యానము, ధారణ, మననము, సమాధి. చతురంగములు the four divisions of an army, i. e., రథములు, ఏనుగులు, గుర్రములు, బంటులు. పంచాంగము the Indian calendar giving particulars of each day, as తిథి, వారము, నక్షత్రము, యోగము, కరణము. రాజ్యాంగములు the various departments of Government. షడంగములు or వేదాంగములు the six sciences dependent on the Vedas. i. e., శిక్ష, కల్పము, వ్యాకరణము, నిరుక్తము, జ్యోతిషము, ఛందస్సు. సప్తాంగములు = the seven constituents of a Government. స్వామి, అమాత్యుడు, సుహృత్తు, కోశము, రాష్ట్రము, దుర్గము, బలము. సాష్టాంగ ప్రణామము prostrate homage, touching the ground with eight members of the body, i. e., eyes or chest and forehead, hands, knees and feet.

(p. 7) aṇṭa anṭa. [Tel.] n. A crowd. A platter formed of leaves stitched together విస్తరి. ఒక అంటపొడుచుకొనిరా stitch the leaves as a platter. అంటగట్టు anṭagaṭṭu. [From అంటు to touch] v. a. To join together, to unite, to tie together చేర్చికట్టు. దీనితో అంటగట్టినపద్దులు the items joined with this. అంటలుగట్టు v. To assemble in mobs. గుంపులుకూడు, జతిచేరు. 'అంటలుగట్టి చెల్కలకు నాండ్రును బిడ్డలు కూరకోయ.' ఆముక్త. iii.

(p. 10) antaraṅgamu anta-rangamu. [Skt.] n. The mind, the heart. కఠినాంతరంగుడు a hard hearted man. సంతుష్టాంతరంగుడు one whose heart is pleased. The middle, midst. Secrecy, privacy. అంతరంగపుమాట a secret. 'కల్యాణవేది కాంతరంగంబున నున్నయెడ.' N. 9. 126.

(p. 13) antikalu antikalu. [Tel.] n. A (tatty) screen made of grass, (usually of cuscuss.) వెట్టివేళ్లచాపవలె [పైన కప్పుగా గాని ధాన్యరాశికి లేక ఉప్పుకొతారులకు పైనగాని వేస్తే ఉరియదు.]

(p. 14) andalamu andalamu. [Tel.] n. s. A palanquin. N. 7. 40. A. 4. 6. ఆందోళిక. ప్రక్కలందు మరుగులేని పల్లకీ.

(p. 15) andubaḍi andubaḍi. [Tel.] n. Nearness. Getting, obtaining. ప్రాప్తము. వాడికి ఆ రూకలు యింకా అందుబడి కాలేదు he has not yet got the money. అది అందుబడి అయిన తరువాత after it was received or came to hand.

(p. 16) ampakāḍu ampakāḍu. [Tel. from అమ్ము.] n. One who carries an arrow విల్లుచేతబట్టిన వాడు, ధానుష్కుడు. A marks man, a skilful archer. గురితప్పక అమ్మువేయువాడు, కృతహస్తుడు. 'హదనువచ్చుదాకనపరాధిపైరోష 'మాగిహదనుగన్నడనపవలయు లక్ష్యసిద్ధిదాకలావునశరమాగి కాడవిడుచునంపకాడుపోలె.' Amuk. iv.

(p. 16) ampelu ampelu. [Tel.] n. Rags, tatters, పేలికలు, చింపిగుడ్డలు, అంపెలు గట్టి చేత నొక యష్టిధరింపుచు. G. X. 72.

(p. 16) ambali ambali. [Tel; plu, అంబలులు, అంబళులు or అంబళ్లు. Gen. అంబటి] n. Porridge. పిండి నూకలువేసి ౛ావగాకాచినది. చింతంబలి paste made of pounded tamarind seeds. అంబట్టి కుండ a porridge-pot. అంబటిప్రొద్దు break-fast time: about noon. 'పలుచనియంబళుల్ చెరుకుపాలెడనీళ్లు ... వడపిందెలు నీరుచల్లయున్ వెలయగబెట్టు వెసవిఁజందనచర్చమున్నగన్.' Amuk. i. 41.

(p. 18) akaluṣamu a-kalushamu. [Skt.] adj. Stainless, sinless, unspotted.

(p. 18) akalpitamu a-kalpitamu. [Skt.] adj. Not manufactured. Natural, simple, not artificial, not contrived. సహజమైన చేయబడని.

(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

(p. 20) akkara akkara. [Tel.] n. Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.
