(p. 15) andubaḍi andubaḍi. [Tel.] n. Nearness. Getting, obtaining. ప్రాప్తము. వాడికి ఆ రూకలు యింకా అందుబడి కాలేదు he has not yet got the money. అది అందుబడి అయిన తరువాత after it was received or came to hand.

(p. 25) agu agu. [Tel.] (commongly written అవు), v. To be, to become, to prove to be. The present p|| is అగుచు, or అవుచు as అగుచున్నాడు or అవుచున్నాడు he is becoming. మిక్కిలి సిరి అగును much fortune will result. The past p|| is అయి as దొంగ అయి turned a rogue, become a thief. The root in A of అగు is కా as అట్లా కారాదు it cannot happen so. Aorist p|| అగు, అగునట్టి, అయ్యే, అయ్యెడి as క్రూరుడగు cruel. శాలివాహనశక వర్షంబులు 1466 అగునట్టి క్రోధి సంవత్సర కార్తీకశుద్ధ 5 శనివారము Saturday the 5th of the bright fortnight of the month Kārtika in the year Krodhi 'which is' the year 1466 (of the Salivahana æra.) ఇది దొంగతనము అయ్యేపనిగనుక as this is a matter in which a man might prove a rogue. Past Rel. p|| అయిన as నాది అయిన గుర్రము a horse of mine. The imperatives are కమ్ము plu. కండి. Causal forms కాజేయు or కావించు. Negative aorist కాదు, &c. అగుర = అగను+ర = అవును. It is so. 1. To be, to become, as కాకి కోకిలయగునె can a crow become a cuckoo? వాడు ఏమయినాడు what has become of him? దొంగ అయినాడు he proved to be a thief. వాడు నేరస్థుడైనాడు he was found guilty. ఆ పని అవును కాకపోవును that undertaking may or may not be accomplished. వానికి ఆకలి అవుతున్నది he is hungry. ఇట్లు రాత్రియగుట as it was now night. బాలుడగుట as he is but a child. 2. To be made, to be finished, to be spent or expended, to elapse, as పని శీఘ్రముగా కావలెను the work must be done soon. వివాహమగుము marry her. ఆ పెండ్లి అయినది the marriage took place. భోజనమయినది dinner is over. రాజదర్పనమయినది I got a sight of the king. అయినదాన్ని చూపు shew what has been done. ఆ పని అయినది the work is over, it is done. కావచ్చినది it is nearly done. రూకలు అయిపోయినది the money is expended. సంవత్సరము అయినది a year has passed. నెల అవుతున్నది it is about a month since. అర్థమయినదా do you understand it? సాకు భావముకాతేదు I do not understand it. భావముయనది I understand it. స్నానము కావించు to bathe, or to cause to bathe. తీర్పుకాలేదు no decision has been given. మ్రుచ్చిలితెచ్చుట మగతనం బగునె is it a manly thing to steal? 3. To be proper or fit, to be agreeable, as ఇచ్చట నుండనగునే మనకు is it fit for us to remain here? కాని పని an improper or unbecoming act. అట్లా చేయనవునా is it right to do so? పగలు కాచినపాలు ఆ రాత్రికి అవును milk boiled the same day is fit for use that night. అతనికీ నాకు కానందున as we are not on good terms. అయినవాండ్లున్ను కానివాండ్లున్ను friends and enemies. 4. To grow, as ఈ తోటలో ఏమి అవుతవి what is grown in this garden? ఇక్కడ వరి కఅదు rice does not grow here. 5. (Governing a dative) To stand in relation, as వాడు నీకేమవుతాడు how is he related to you? నాకు కావలసినవారు my relations. వానికి మేము ఏమీకాము we are in no way related to him. 6. Added to some nouns it gives them a verbal significance, as వారు ఎప్పుడు ప్రయాణమవుతారు when will they start or set out? విభాగాలు అయి వేరింటి కాపురము చేస్తున్నారు they seperated and live apart.

(p. 31) aṭē or అటో aṭē. [Tel.] Contraction of అటవే or అటవో (intensive of అట) My good woman! అతను పోయినాడటే is he gone, ma'am? ఇంకా కాలేదటో is it not finished, ma'am?

(p. 54) anukūlamu anu-kūlamu. [Skt.] adj. Favourable, friendly, assisting, salubrious. హీతమైన, సహాయమైన, ఆరోగ్యమైన, శ్రేయస్కరమైన. అనుకూలమైన గాలి a favourable wind. వాని శరీరమునకు అనుకూలమైన స్థలము the place which agrees with him. అనుకూలమైనమాట a friendly word. అనుకూలశత్రువు a friendly enemy అనుకూల కాలము a suitable time. అనుకూలము or అనుకూలత n. Favour, goodness, kindness, aid. సహాయము, మేలు, దయ. దయ ద్రవ్యానుకూలము means, resource. దైవానుకూలము వల్ల by the grace of God. అనుకూలించు, అనుకూలపడు or అనుకూలమగు anukūlinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To be of use ఒదవు. To have effect, to have a good result. సఫలమగు, ఒనగూడు. అనుకూలము కాలేదు it failed, it had not the desired effect. నాకు ఇంకా రూకలు అనుకూల పడలేదు I have not yet obtained the money ఈ పని నీకు అనుకూలమగును you will succeed in this business. అనుకూలము చేయు or అనుకూలవరచు anukūlamuchēyu. v. a. To shew favour, to bring a thing about, to countenance. సహాయము చేయు, నెరవేర్చు. కార్యమును అనుకూలము చేసికొన్నారు they brought it about, brought it to a conclusion. అనుకూలుడు anukūluḍu. n. A friend, ally, patron. హితుడు, సహాయుడు, ఉపకారి. వాడు నాకు అనుకూలుడు he is well disposed towards me.

(p. 92) avagāhamu or అవగాహనము ava-gāhamu. [Skt.] n. Immersion: bathing: comprehension. ముణగడము, తెలియడము, అకళింత. అది నాకు అవగాహము కాలేదు I do not comprehend it. అది నీకు అవగాహనమైనదా have you understood it? దాన్ని నేను అవగాహనము చేసికొన్నాను I have understood it.

(p. 106) ākali ākali. [Tel.] n. Hunger, appetite. Eagerness. క్షుత్తు. G: ఆకటి; or ఆకంటి D. ఆకటికి; L. ఆకట. ఆకలిగొన్నాడు he had an appetite, he was hungry. ఆకలియెత్తు, or పెట్టు. To be hungry. ఆకలితీర్చు To appease or satisfy hunger. వానికి ఆకలి కాలేదా is he not hungry? See ఆకొను.

(p. 172) usulu usulu. [Tel.] n. Ease, facility; convenience అనుకూలము, సౌఖ్యము. వాని శరీరము కొంచెము ఉసులు కాలేదు he is rather better in health it was not convenient or easy for him. ఉసులయిన tolerably good, easy, light ఉసులు చేయు to facilitate.

Certain histories or legends are written under this name, as the విద్యారణ్యకాలజ్ఞానము, the సర్వజ్ఞకాలజ్ఞానము, the చెన్నబసవకాలజ్ఞానము being the visions or predictions regarding particular saints. కాలజ్ఞుడు kālagnyuḍu. n. Another time. కాలాంతరమందు or కాలాంతరేణ through the lapse of time, at another time. కాలాతీతము kal-ātītamu. n. Delay, loss of time. కాలాతీతమైనది it is now too late. కాలార్కుడు kāl-ārkuḍu. The sun that at the last day shall scorch up the world. కాలావధి kāl-āvadhi. n. The end of a year or season. కాలావసానము kāl-āvasānamu. n. The end of time, i.e., death. కాలికము kālikamu. adj. Rot, foulness, squalor, staleness, nastiness, scurf, (as of the teeth,) పండ్లమురికి Green slime produced in stagnant water, moss, water weeds, శైవాలము, నీళ్లలోని పచ్చని మురికి. Also, a baby word for the nipple, breast, or milk. adj. Old, పాతయైన. Dirty, unclean, not fresh. ఇంటిపాచిపని కాలేదు the cleaning of the house is not done. పాచిచేయు or పాచితీయు to sweep and wash a house, to clean a house. పాచితీగె pāchi-tīge. n. A certain creeper, also called పాచిమాను. Anogeissus acuminata (Watts.)

(p. 790) pedda or పెద pedda. [Tel.] adj. Great, big, large. గొప్ప, అధికమైన. Long, high, tall, పొడుగైన. Loud. Chief, principal, ముఖ్యమైన. శ్రేష్ఠము. Respectable, honest, honourable. Old, aged. Senior. n. An elder, or senior. జ్యేష్ఠుడు, జ్యేష్టురాలు పెద్దవాడు. An old man, వృద్ధుడు, ముసలివాడు, ముసలిస్త్రీ, A great man, గొప్పవాడు. An ancestor. A chief ruler or prince. రాజు. adv. I. v. 272. పిన్నంతరము the proper distinctions between old and young, respective rank. పెద్దకాలము a long time: also, old age. అతనికి పెద్దకాలము సమీపించినది or సంభవించినది he has become an old man. 'కడుపెద్దదవ్వుపోయి' going a great distance. M. I. i. 190. ఇందుకు పెద్దమాటలెందుకోయి why make such a noise about this? ఇది ఒక పెద్ద పనియా is this a great matter? పెద్దమేలయ్యె so much the better, సర్వోత్తమమాయెను వేల్పుపెద్ద the father or ruler of the gods. బడిపెద్ద a class leader, or head boy. పిన్నపెద్దలు young and old, every body; or village elders. Manly or respectable conduct, propriety, decency, honesty. పెద్దమాను pedda-mānu. n. The name of a certain tree called Ailanthus excelsa. (Rox. & E. P.) కట్వంగము, దుండిగపుమాను, పెనుమాను. పెద్దమానుచెక్క or పట్ట the bark of this tree, or, of Ailanthus malabarica, which is used in medicine. పెద్దమ్మ pedd-amma. n. An elder mother, i.e., mother's elder sister or a father's elder brother's wife. పెద్దమ్మ is also the name of జ్యేష్ఠాదేవి a goddess who is the personification of misfortune, and is described as the elder sister of శ్రీ or Fortune. The word is also used to mean a wretched creature, a blockhead. వాణ్ని పెద్దమ్మపట్టుకొన్నది he is out of luck. వాణ్ని పెద్దమ్మ విడిచినది his luck has taken a turn. ఇది బుద్ధిమంతురాలు వాడు వట్టిపెద్దమ్మ she is a sensible woman, but he is a mere blockhead. పెద్దమ్మనేల a wretched bit of land. పెద్దమ్మతనము pedd-amma-tanamu. n. Wretchedness, stupidity. పెద్దయు pedda-yu. adv. Very, exceedingly, much. మిక్కిలి. పెద్దరికము peddarikamu. n. A name of a certain village goddess, ఒక గ్రామదేవత. పెద్దేటికొంగ pedd-ēṭi-konga. n. The large river heron. The pelican.

(p. 801) pondu or ఒందు pondu. [Tel.] v. n. To wink, (కన్ను) వాలు. To gain, obtain, get, acquire. To reach, attain to. To have, enjoy. To suffer, experience, meet with joy, grief or death, &c. ప్రాపించు. వానిని లక్ష్మిపొందినది good luck has be fallen him. అవమానమును పొందినాడు he incurred disgrace. సంతోషమును పొందినాడు he was pleased. నష్టమును పొందినాడు he incurred loss. విఘ్నమొందక meeting with no obstacle or cheek. నరకమును పొందినాడు he fell into hell. కన్నుపొందు to sleep. 'ఆ కడుపు నిండగుడువ గానమిరేయెల్ల, గన్నుపొందకున్న కరముడస్సి, యున్నవాడనాకు.' M. I. vi. 322. కన్నుపొందకున్న, అనగా నిద్రలేకుండా ఉండడముచేత. Also, to have intercourse with. కలయు. n. Convenience, suitability, aid, help. వానికి ఆ రూకలు పొందుపాటు కాలేదు he could not get the money. పొందుపాటుచేయు to arrange, అనుకూలముచేయు. పొందించు pondinṭsu. To cause to obtain, get, or experience. నన్ను ఈ శ్రమ పొందించినారు they caused me this trouble. 'మగువత నంబునజగముల తగులము బొందింప గొంతదడవెముకుందా.' B. viii. 446. పొందిక pondika. n., Fitness, agreement, aptness. ఇమిడిక. Intercourse, సహవాసము, కలయిక. 'సీతాకాంతముని స్త్రీల పొందిక లుమరగి.' R. v. 59.

Fruit, profit, use, advantage, benefit, a reward, result, consequence. దుస్స్వప్న ఫలము the fulfilment of a portentous dream. ఫలపడు phala-paḍu. v. n. To bear fruit, to avail, turn to good, turn out well. ఫలపరచు phala-paraṭsu. v. a. To make fruitful, to realize, to turn to profit, to use. ఫలపూరము phala-pūramu. n. The citron. ఫలవంతము phala-vantamu. adj. Fruitful, as a tree, ఫండ్లు గల. ఫలరాజము phala-rājamu. n. A certain red fruit, Momordica monadelpha. ఫలాహారము phal-āhāramu. n. A refection, refreshments, a slight meal of parched corn, cakes, fruit, &c. ఫలించు phalinṭsu. v. n. To be fruitful, yield fruit, పండు. To be of advantage, profit, turn out well, to be accomplished, be fulfilled, నెరవేరు. ఫలితము phalitamu. adj. Ripened, fruitful, profitable, advantageous. నా యత్నము ఫలితముకాలేదు my endeavour came to no good. n. Profit, fruit. ఫలితార్థము phalit-ārṭhamu. n. The ultimate import, purport, result, or point of a passage, the tendency as distinguished from the literal sense. ఫలినము phalinamu. n. A fruit tree. విద్యమాన ఫలవద్వృక్షము. G. iii.146. ఫలినీ phalinī. n. A tree called ప్రయంగువు, తరిగొర్రచెట్టు. ఫలోదయము phal-ōdayamu. Success, enjoyment, gain, profit; heaven, paradise, joy, happiness. ఫలోన్మఖము phal-ōnmukhamu. adj. Fruitful, effective, efficacious. అది యిప్పుడు ఫలోన్ముఖముగానున్నది it is now coming to good.
