(p. 185) eḍabāyu eḍa-bāyu. [Tel.] v. n. To give up, to stand aloof, to be separated from, be cut off, to abstain. కూటికి నెడబాసి abstaining from food. నీళ్లెడబాసిన చేప a fish out of water. ఎడబాటు eḍa-bāṭu. n. Separation వినియోగము. ఎడబాపు eda-bāpu. v. a. To cut off, or discontinue.

(p. 293) kutukamu kutukamu. [Skt.] n. Impetuosity, fervour, vehemence, Inclination, curiosity. అనుభవింపని కోరికయందలి ఆశ. కుతుకత kutukata. n. Eagarness, impetuosity. 'కుతుకతకూటికి కొలుచువారలకు.' Sar. D. vi. 468.

(p. 303) kūḍu kūḍu. [Tel. from కుడుచు to eat or enjoy.] n. Food, victuals, boiled rice, అన్నము. The pith inside a palm tree: infl. కూటి. plu. కూళ్లు. viands, dishes. పుట్టకూడు the red earth in the heart of a white ant hill, which contains the eggs. వానికి కూటికిలేదు he has not bread to eat. కూటిపేదలు the indigent: those who have no food.

(p. 765) puṭṭa puṭṭa. [Tel.] n. An ant hill, వల్మీకము. పాముపుట్ట an ant hill in which a snake lives. నాగులచవితికి పుట్టలో పాలుపోయుదురు they pour milk in a snake's hole on the feastday called Nāgula Ṭsaviti. A pack, number, collection, lot heap, crowd. ఆ యిల్లు చీమలపుట్టగా నున్నది the house is a regular ant's nest. ఆ పుస్తకము అబద్ధాలపుట్టగానున్నది that book is a pack of lies. వాని ఒళ్లు వట్టినరములపుట్ట he is mere skin and bone. పుట్టకాపు or పుట్టకూడుదిండి puṭṭa-kāpu. n. Lit: That which feeds on ant hills, i.e., a bear, ఎలుగుగొడ్డు. పుట్టకాలు puṭṭa-kālu. n. A leg swollen with elephantiasis, బూరకాలు, ఏనుగుకాలు. 'పుట్టకాల్ సొట్టవ్రేల్ వట్టివ్రేలుంజెవుల్.' Jagan. i. 54. పుట్టకాలివాడు one who is afflicted with elephantiasis in the leg. పుట్టకుడు puṭṭa-kūḍu. n. The heart of an ant hill, the red earth that contains the eggs. A fungus. కుక్కగొడుగు. 'వ పొట్టకైపుట్టకూటికిం జీమలకుం జెదలునకు నెలుంగులు గలుగులం బుట్టలు నిశితనిజ నఖరకులిశ కోటులంగోరాడ.' Swa. iv. 49. పుట్టకొక్కు, పుట్టగొడుగు or పుట్టచేర్పు puṭṭa-kokku. n. A mushroom, toadstool, fungus. M. XII. v. 418. పుట్టకోట puṭṭa-kōta. n. A bulwark, a buttress. కోటకు కోటబైట వేసిన మట్టితిన్నె. పుట్టకోవలు the pointed tops of ant hills, పుట్టమీదిశిఖరములు. పుట్టగోచి puṭṭa-gōchi. n. A large modesty piece. పెద్దగోచి, కాపీనము. పుట్టచిలుక puṭṭa-chiluka. n. The Sirkeer Cuckoo. Taccocua leschnenaultii, (F.B.I.) పుట్టచూలు or పుట్టపుట్టువు puṭṭa-ṭsūlu. n. He who was 'born of an ant hill.' This is a word translated from the Sanscrit name వాల్మీకి. Vālmīki. పుట్టతమ్మచెట్టు puṭṭa-tamma-cheṭṭu. n. A large creeping plant, the fruit of which is used medicinally. పుట్టతేనె puṭṭa-tēne. n. Honey found in an ant-hill. పుట్టతేలు puṭṭa-tēlu. n. The large black scorpion, so called because found in rubbish. మరిడ్రగబ్బ. పుట్టముంగి puṭṭa-mungi. n. Lit: A mongoose on an ant hill, used as a type of composure. adj. Demure. అది తిట్టుచుండగా పుట్టముంగివలె మారకయుండినాడు she reviled him but he stood stock still. పుట్టలమ్మ puṭṭal-amma. n. A village goddess.

(p. 795) pēda pēda. [Tel.] adj. Poor, indigent, బీద. Timid, పిరికి. Slender, lean, thin, as the waist. కూటికి పేదయైతే కులానికి పేదా if a man happens to be poor, is he to be regarded as contemptible by his felow castemen? పేదసాదలు the poor and wretched. నిరుపేదనడుము a slender waist. చెవిపేదలు those that turn a deaf ear to complaints, మొరలాలకించనివారు. 'ఆవశ్యంబు రాజులు చెవిపేదలని పలికి.' P. i. 534. పేద or పేదవాడు Pēda. n. A poor person. A powerless or weak man, ఆశక్తుడు. A man of low station in life, అనుద్ధతుడు. పేదలు the poor. పేదరాలు pēda-r-ālu. n. An indigent woman. పేదరికము pēdarikamu. n. Pauperism, poverty. దారిద్య్రము. పేదరిమి or పేదర్మి pēdarimi n. Poverty, Timidity,పిరికితనము. నడుముపేదరిమి slenderness of the waist. 'తే అర్జున యీ పెద్ద తనముమాని, దండివైలెమ్ము మనసు పేదరిమివిడిచి.' M. VI. i. 240. పేదవడు pēda-vaḍu. v. n. To be reduced to poverty, to become poor, దారిద్య్రమును పొందు. To be humbled or humiliated, దైన్యమునుపొందు.

(p. 868) bari bari. [Tel.] n. A side. పార్శ్వము. 'పక్కలు నాటించి బరులుచెండాడి.' Pal. 108. బరులుబ్బు to bloat, as the belly or the sides of the belly. A line drawn on the ground in a circle, గిరి. An elephant goad, ఏనుగుప్రక్కలుపొడిచి బెదరించుటకై అర్థచంద్రాకారముగా ఉక్కుతో చేసిన అలుగుగల వేణుదండము. A thief, దొంగ. An enemy, శత్రువు. adj. (for బరిగి), Naked. బరిమేను = దిగంబరదేహము. 'తొడమెడ బరికాలు దోరంపుచెవులు.' B. D. i. 514. బరికట్టె or బరికమ్మి bari-katṭe. A spear without a handle, అలుగులేనియీటె. A crook or stick used by herdsman, దోటి.' గొడ్డలిబరికమ్మికూటికుండయును.' BD. iii. 2244. బరికాడు bari-kāḍu. n. An elephant driver, మానటివాడు. బరికోల n. An elephant goad. An arrow, బాణము. బరి౛ోగి bari-ḍzōgi. (బరిగి+౛ోగి.) n. A snake charmer, పఅములవాడు. బరియెముకలు bari-y-emukalu. n. The ribs, పక్క యెముకలు. బరిశూల bari-ṣūla. n. Liver complaint. పక్కశూల. See బరిగి.

(p. 1073) rāṭu or రాటము rāṭu. [Tel.] n. Overcrowding, as of people. (జన) సమ్మర్ధము. Appearance, breaking out, as of rats or thieves. A plague, pest, danger, ఉపద్రవము, రచ్చ, రొష్టు, రంపు. ఆ యింటిలో ఎలుకలరాటుగా నున్నది the rats broke out in the house. 'నోటికూటికి రాటు తెచ్చుకొంటిగదాయని' (S. iii. 340.) I saw that I had got into a scrape which might cost me my bread. రాటుపడు or రాట్పడు rāṭu-paḍu. v. n. To be troubled, teased, pestered, plagued, ఉపద్రవపడు.

(p. 1107) lē lē. [Tel.] The base of the negative forms లేక, లేని, లేదు, &c. లేక lēka. past participle of లేదు. Not being, not being present, without, wanting. అతడు అక్కడ లేకపోవుటవల్ల by his not being there. వానికి రూకలు లేకపోవుటవల్ల by being in want of money. దాన్ని అణిచేవారులేక యిట్లు విడబడి తిరిగినది she played these pranks as there was no one to check her. కూటికిలేక being in want of food. When added to the infinitive, it means Unable. రాలేక unable to come. దానిని చూడలేక unable to look at it, unable to bear the sight of it. లేకుండ or లేకుండా lēk-unḍā. is used in much the same way as లేక; e.g. అతడు లేకుండ నావల్లకాదు I cannot do it without him లేకుండాచేయు lēk-unḍā-chēyu. v. a. To do away, to get rid of, to turn out. నివృత్తిచేయు. వారిని ఆ యింటిలోలేకుండా చేయుము turn them out of the house. అది వాడు ఇవ్వనక్కరలేకుండా చేస్తిని I relieved him from the necessity of giving it. లేకుండు lēk-unḍu. v. n. To be absent, to be wanting. లేడు lēḍu. He is not; he is not present. ఇంటిలోలేడు he is not in the house. చేయలేడు he cannot do it. వీక్షంపగలేడయ్యె. he could not behold it. లేదా lēdā. It it not? or, or else. అది అక్కడ లేదా is it not there? లేదు lēdu. It is not. అది అక్కడ లేదు. it is not there. లేనట్టు lēn-aṭṭu. As if it is not అతడు లేనట్టున్నది it appears he is not there. అతడు లేనట్టు తెలిసి knowing that he was not there. లేని lēni. adj. Devoid of. తెలివిలేనివాడు he who is devoid of sense. వాడు నోరులేనివాడు he is a dumb creature, a mere fool. తప్పులేని faultless. దోవలేని అడవి a pathless forest. వెలలేనిమాణిక్యము a priceless gem. లేనిపోనిపని nonsense, a fool's errand. లేనిపోనిసౌఖ్యములు vain deluding joys. లేనిమాటలు slanders, falsehoods. లేనిపోనిసాకు a false pretence. పోరులేని పోరుపుట్టె నీప్రొద్దు a dispute arose without cause. 'అదియుగాక రాజ్యమును మహాభూతంబు సోకినప్పు డెట్టిసుజనులకును లేనిచీకుదనములేనిమూగతనము, లేని చెవుడు గొంతయైనకలదు.' K. P. v. 248. లేనివారు the absent; the poor. లేమి lēmi. n. Nullity, not being, absence, want, poverty. కలుగమి, ఉండమి, దారిద్య్రము. 'జనకుడు లేమికింగడువిషాదము నొందె.' M. X. ii. 17. ధనములేమి want of wealth. కలిమిలేములు gains and losses, riches and poverty. లేమిడి lēmiḍi. n. Poverty, want. దారిద్య్రము. లేరు lēru. v. 3rd. pers. plu. They are not. M. V. i. 342. వారు లేరు they are not here. not living. లేవు lēvu. v. (neuter.) They are not.

(p. 1121) vaga vaga. [Tel.] Grief, vexation, melancholy, regret, remorse. దుఃఖము, సంతాపము, విచారము, శోకము. Intention, ఆలోచన, Mode, way, manner, విధము. రీతి, దోవ, గతి. Amorous action, శృంగారచేష్ట, విలాసము, కూటికివగలేనివాడు he who has no means of living. 'క శ్రీరాముడు నీయలమట. లారసి పలు నగలబలుకునర్థగభీరో, దారోక్తివింటె జనకకు, మారీ.' R. v. 37. 'వగచినబోయినకార్యము, మగుడునె వగవంగా లోకమాన్యుండగునే, వగపుణ్యగతికి మూలమె, వగపెల్లవిధాల విడువవలయు నరేంద్రా.' M. XI. i. 22. adj. Beautiful, handsome. అందమైన. 'కొసరువగనవ్వుకొనగోట కొప్పుదువ్వు.' T. ii. 98. వగకత్తె or వగలాడి vaga-katte. n. A coquette, belle. శృంగారచేష్టలుగలస్త్రీ, విలాసవతి. A rogue, a deceiver, మాయలాడి. వగకాడు or వగలాడు vaga-kāḍu. n. A fop, a beau, a gallant. వన్నెకాడు. నీటుకాడు, సొగసుకాడు, విలాసవంతుడు. వౚు vagaṭsu. v. n. To grieve, sorrow. దుఃఖించు. శోకించు. To regret, repent, పశ్చాత్తాపపడు. To cry, ఏడ్చు. v. a. To consider, think, విచారించచు, ఆలోచించు. తలచు. 'నీపరాభవంబె నాపరాభవమార్య వగివవలదు మగువదెగువదెత్తు.' R. v. 274. వగతెగు vaga-tegu. v. n. To be settled or decided. తీరు, పరిష్కారమగు, పరిష్కృతమగు. వగతెంచు vaga-denṭsu. v. a. To decide, settle, determine. వగతెగువట్లుచేయు. తీర్చు, పరిష్కారముచేయు. 'తెలియగజాలకున్న వగదెంచెద రేపవియింటికేరె.' S. iii. 509. వగవ or వగవగ vagava. adv. Grievingly, sorrowfully. 'వగవగసాధులగుపేదవారికి నెగ్గుల్ మొగిజేయుదురు.' M. 1. i. 130. వగపు vagapu. n. Grief. మనోదుఃఖ రూపమైనవిచారము, శోకము.

(p. 1148) vācu vāṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To swell. నొప్పిచేత లావగు. To pine, long, be eager. దేవురించుచ, ఏకరు. (The Hindus like the Musulmans imagine the face and the legs to swell with desire or want.) వాడు కూటికి వాచియున్నాడు he is perishing for want of food. మేముదానికి వాచినవారముకాము we are not pining for it, we do not care for it. 'ఉ మేమునైతమున్ వాచినవారియట్లగరువంబున గన్గొనుచుంటి మన్విభున్.' V. P. vi. 100.

(p. 1335) sīdaramu or సీద్రము sīdaramu. [Tel.] n. Poverty, దారిద్య్రము, లేమిడి. A serpent, a snake, సర్పము. A serpent's skin, కుబుసము. సీ 'అనయంబునడకతప్పని గోత్రపతులెప్పుడును సీదరము లేని యవఘభోగులు.' Vasu. i. 8. 'కూటికినికోకకుసీదరమైకృశింపుచుం.' P. i. 800.
