(p. 33) aṭṭeḍa aṭṭeḍa. [Tel.] n. A sieve. తూర్పారపెట్టిన ధాన్యమును జల్లించే ఒక విధమైన జల్లెడ. A bridge. A part of a fort. 'అట్టెళ్లపైవారు, అట్నాలపైవారు, కోటకొమ్మలకును జేరువనున్నవారు.' Pal. 461.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 253) karkōṭakamu karkōṭakamu. [Skt.] adj. Cruel, hard. కర్కోటకుడు karkōṭakuḍu. A snake so named. A cruel wretch.

(p. 269) kāṇamu kāṇamu. [Skt.] adj. One eyed. కాణవరాటము or కాణవరాటకము a broken shell. A worthless fragment గుడ్డిగువ్వ Ved. Ras. iii. 58. The one eyed creature. i.e., a crow. కాణము kāṇamu. [Tel.] n. Food, provender, fodder. Grass. గ్రాసము, కసువు. 'కోటకేమరకెపుడు బాటించి గడ్డియు గాణంబుగొలుచును.' M. XII. ii. 303.

(p. 320) komma komma. [Tel.] n. A branch. శాఖ. A damsel, a maiden, a female. ఆడుది. A battlement with loop holes, an embrasure. కోటకొమ్మ. పట్టుకొమ్మ a prop, a refuge, reliance. కొమ్మచెట్టు komma-cheṭṭu. n. A wood resembling pine, used for torches, Ceropegia tuberosa. (Watts.) కొమ్మసొర్ర komma-sorra. [Tel.] n. A fish, Zygœna tudes. (F.B.I.) కొమ్మరటి చెట్టు. kommaraṭi-cheṭṭu. n. The branchy plantain tree, or Bengal plantain. బంగాళీ రంభ.

(p. 325) kōṭa kōṭa [Tel.] n. A fort. కోటకొమ్మలు kōṭa-kommalu. [Tel.] n. Battlements of a fort.

(p. 344) khāṇamu khāṇamu. [Tel.] n. Food for horses. దాణా. Provender, fodder. Grass. గ్రాసము, కసువు. 'కండచక్కెరల ఖాణంబుంచునో యుంచదో.' Ila. iii. 79. 'కోటకేమర కెపుడుపాటించిగడ్డియు ఖాణంబు గొలుచును.' M. XII. ii. 303. 'మునుదివ్యాస్త్రబంబున జనియించిన నీరువలన సంభూతంబై యొనరినఖాణము మేపెను.' M. VII. 170.

(p. 765) puṭṭa puṭṭa. [Tel.] n. An ant hill, వల్మీకము. పాముపుట్ట an ant hill in which a snake lives. నాగులచవితికి పుట్టలో పాలుపోయుదురు they pour milk in a snake's hole on the feastday called Nāgula Ṭsaviti. A pack, number, collection, lot heap, crowd. ఆ యిల్లు చీమలపుట్టగా నున్నది the house is a regular ant's nest. ఆ పుస్తకము అబద్ధాలపుట్టగానున్నది that book is a pack of lies. వాని ఒళ్లు వట్టినరములపుట్ట he is mere skin and bone. పుట్టకాపు or పుట్టకూడుదిండి puṭṭa-kāpu. n. Lit: That which feeds on ant hills, i.e., a bear, ఎలుగుగొడ్డు. పుట్టకాలు puṭṭa-kālu. n. A leg swollen with elephantiasis, బూరకాలు, ఏనుగుకాలు. 'పుట్టకాల్ సొట్టవ్రేల్ వట్టివ్రేలుంజెవుల్.' Jagan. i. 54. పుట్టకాలివాడు one who is afflicted with elephantiasis in the leg. పుట్టకుడు puṭṭa-kūḍu. n. The heart of an ant hill, the red earth that contains the eggs. A fungus. కుక్కగొడుగు. 'వ పొట్టకైపుట్టకూటికిం జీమలకుం జెదలునకు నెలుంగులు గలుగులం బుట్టలు నిశితనిజ నఖరకులిశ కోటులంగోరాడ.' Swa. iv. 49. పుట్టకొక్కు, పుట్టగొడుగు or పుట్టచేర్పు puṭṭa-kokku. n. A mushroom, toadstool, fungus. M. XII. v. 418. పుట్టకోట puṭṭa-kōta. n. A bulwark, a buttress. కోటకు కోటబైట వేసిన మట్టితిన్నె. పుట్టకోవలు the pointed tops of ant hills, పుట్టమీదిశిఖరములు. పుట్టగోచి puṭṭa-gōchi. n. A large modesty piece. పెద్దగోచి, కాపీనము. పుట్టచిలుక puṭṭa-chiluka. n. The Sirkeer Cuckoo. Taccocua leschnenaultii, (F.B.I.) పుట్టచూలు or పుట్టపుట్టువు puṭṭa-ṭsūlu. n. He who was 'born of an ant hill.' This is a word translated from the Sanscrit name వాల్మీకి. Vālmīki. పుట్టతమ్మచెట్టు puṭṭa-tamma-cheṭṭu. n. A large creeping plant, the fruit of which is used medicinally. పుట్టతేనె puṭṭa-tēne. n. Honey found in an ant-hill. పుట్టతేలు puṭṭa-tēlu. n. The large black scorpion, so called because found in rubbish. మరిడ్రగబ్బ. పుట్టముంగి puṭṭa-mungi. n. Lit: A mongoose on an ant hill, used as a type of composure. adj. Demure. అది తిట్టుచుండగా పుట్టముంగివలె మారకయుండినాడు she reviled him but he stood stock still. పుట్టలమ్మ puṭṭal-amma. n. A village goddess.

(p. 1129) vapramu vapramu. [Skt.] n. A fort, a citadel. కోట. A mud wall, a rampart, the glacis of a fort, కోటకొరడు, పుట్టకోట. కొండనెత్తము, కోటఅడుగున పెట్టినకొరడు మట్టిదిన్నె మొదలైనవి. A shore, తీరము.' రాజులోగిలి చుట్టురాల వప్రంబు.' Sar. D. 112. వప్రక్రీడ vapra-krīḍa. n. Butting, as of an elephant or bull, &c. ఏనుగులు మొదలైనవి కొమ్ములతో ఏటిదరులను పెళ్లగించేఆట.
