(p. 3) aṅkiñcu ankinṭsu. [Tel.] v. t. & i. 1. To raise, take up, lift up. భుజములంకించు shrug the shoulders. 2. To move about, to brandish, ఆడించు, ౛ళిపించు. 'కరవాలంబంకించి యంగదుభజాంతరంబు బిట్టు వ్రేసి.' ద్వి.రా. 3. To turn to one side త్రిప్పు. 'నమ్మెగమంకించి.' విర్వ. ఊ: viii. 4. To hold, పట్టుకొను. 'మారుతసుతుండు ఘనగదాదండ మంకించి కదలుటయును.' జై. భా. ii. 47. 5. To adopt, take or receive. అవలంబించు. 'ధర్మమేజయమనుమాట తగుగదాయని కొంతధైర్యమంకించి.' సారం. 278. 6. To look bright ఉల్లసిల్లు. 'పంకజభవాండమండపంబు సంకుచేసిన పొంకంబున నంకించుచు.' వసు. iv. 23. 7. To extol, applaud పొగడు: 'సముచితభాషణంబుల నంకించుచున్న.' భాగ. viii. 134.

(p. 4) aṅgaḍi angadi. [Drav.] (Gen. అంగటి Loc. అంగట, plu. అంగళ్లు) n. A shop. అంగడిపెట్టు to open a shop. అంగళ్లవాడ range of shops. అంగట పోకార్చి selling in the shop. అంగడివీధి a market place. ఆ సంగతిని అంగడిలో పెట్టినాడు he revealed or exposed the matter.

(p. 11) antarātma antarātma. [Skt.] n. The Supreme Spirit. The heart or mind. దేవుడు, మనస్సు. 'అంతరాత్మవిదుడు.'A. 4. 329. 'కోగ్కితదంతరాత్ముడొసగడె' A. 4. 253.

(p. 12) antarlāpi antarlāpi. [Skt.] n. A kind of puzzle, riddle or question which contains the solution or answer in itself. విడికథవలె అతికఠినమైన ప్రశ్నలు ఉత్తరములుగా మండేటిది. e.g. క' శ్రీకాంతునిదినమెన్నఁడు రాకొమరునికెద్ది ప్రియము రథతిథియెన్నం డేకొలదినన్నమరుంగును ఏకాదశినాఁడు సప్తమేడేగడియల్. ' శ్లో' కాశంభుకాంతాకిముచంద్రకాంతం, కాంతాముఖంకింకురుతేభుజంగః, కశ్శ్రీపతిఃకావిషమాసమస్యా, గౌరీముఖంచుంబతివాసుదేవః. '

(p. 20) akkuḷlu akkuḷḷu. [Tel.] n. A sort of grain called ఆట్రగడలు.

(p. 22) agaḍu or అగుడు agadu. [Tel.] n. Ill fame, bad name, clamour, disturbance. నింద, అపవాదము, రచ్చ, రట్టు, అల్లరి. దాన్ని అగుడుపెట్టకు you must not blab of this. అగుడుసేయనటంచు నానబెట్టినగాని.' N. 7. 154. అగడుపడు v. To be blamed; to be confused. నిందపడు, తొట్రుపడు. బెగడువలదనుచుబెట్టిద మగునెవ్వగ నగడుపడుచు నాడుపడుచులే పగవారికి వలదననా పగవారికి నేలయొసగె పద్మజుడనుచున్. Vasu. vi.

(p. 22) agaḍta agaḍta. [Tel.] n. A moat, ditch, trench. పరిఘ, కందకము. గచ్చకాయలకు తెచ్చిన గుర్రము అగడ్తదాటునా? (Prov.)

(p. 28) accikabuccika or అచ్చికబుచ్చికము acchika-buchika. [Tel.] n. Familiarity, affability. కలుపుగోలుతనము. 'సారంబులగు వన్యాహారంబులు తెచ్చియిచ్చుచు నచ్చికబుచ్చికలడర గొంత కాలంబు గడిపి.' P .ii. 69. 'అచ్చుగాదీర్తు మియప్పని కొన్ని యచ్చికబుచ్చికలాడిపత్రములు గెంటకయిచ్చి.' H. D. ii. 630.

(p. 37) aḍugu aḍugu. [Tel.] n. The foot, the footstep, a pace, step, the bottom, basis. A foot in length containing twelve inches. A line of verse. Thus four 'feet' make one stanza, or quatrain. చెట్టు అడుగు the foot of a tree. అడుగురాయి a stone at the bottom కొండ అడుగుననుండే ఊరు a village at the foot of a mountain. ఆ కథను అడుగునుంచి చెప్పు tell the story from the beginning. కుండ అడుగు the bottom of a pot. అడుగంటకోయు to cut off by the root. అడుగుతో పెళ్లగించు to eradicate, to root out. అడుగారిపోవు to be utterly ruined. నా మాటకు అడుగుదాటకు do not transgress my command. వాని అడుగుల జాడ పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they traced his footsteps and followed him. అడుగడుగున or అడుగడుగునకు step by step, now and then, often. అన్నము అడుగంటినది the rice has burnt at the bottom of the pot.

(p. 39) aṇaka aṇaka. [Tel.] n. The act of bringing the yoke under the neck. అణకలు వేసికొను v. n. To go wrong, turn restive, as a bullock which turns the wrong way in the yoke. ఎద్దుగాని గుర్రముగాని నోగ కెదురు తిరుగు. 'వెగడొందిరవితేరి నమొగలగట్టినయట్టి వాహంబు లణకలువైచికొనియె.' విక్ర iv. 51. తిన్నగా జరగనీయక మటిమాటికి అణకలు వేసికొంటాడు instead of going on smoothly he now and then turns restive.

(p. 40) atikramamu or అతిక్రమణము atikramamu. [Skt.] n. Transgression, wickedness. దుర్మార్గము. అతిక్రమము చేయు to transgress, to offend. అతిక్రమించు atikraminṭsu. [Tel.] v. To transgress, trespass, pass over, pass. ఉల్లంఘనముచేయు. గడుచు.

(p. 41) atītamu atītamu. [Skt.] adj. Past, elapsed. గతమైన. కాలాతీతమైనది the time is gone by. లోకాతీతమైన extraordinary, wonderful. అతీతుడు n. He who has passed or gone over. గడిచినవాడు. Thus వేదాతీతుడు he who has perused the Vedas.

(p. 52) ani ani. [Tel.] (Past p|| of అను to say) Having said. This is translated by the word 'That' or 'so' or the infinitive mood is used, as వారు అక్కడ ఉండినారని అన్నాడు he told me that they were there. అవతల వెళ్లరాదని తిరిగీ వస్తిమి we did not think it right to go on and returned; we thought we must not go further; so we came back. నన్ను పొమ్మని చెప్పెను he told me to go. తన సొమ్మని యెంచి considering it his own. దాన్ని నాకని కొన్నాడు he bought it for me. కావలెనని అక్కడికి పోయినాడు he went there on purpose. పండ్లను పటపటమని కొరికినాడు he gnashed his teeth. ఘమ్మని fragrantly. తళుక్కని brilliantly. గడగడమని మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke rapidly. ఈగలు జుమ్మని ముసురు కొన్నవి the flies covered it buzzingly. నీవు ఈ శాలువ కప్పుకొంటే గుమ్మని ఉండును if you wear this shawl it feels warm: or, you will feel warm.

(p. 53) anukariñcu anu-karintsu. v. a. To imitate. ఒకరిని లేక ఒకదానిని చూచి ఆ ప్రకారముగా చేయు. అనుకరణము anu-karaṇamu. [Skt.] n. Imitation. ఒకనిని లేక ఒకదానిని చూచి అదేప్రకారముగా చేయడము, చటచట, పటపట, దడదడ, గడగడ, -- యిట్టిని అనుకరణశబ్దములు these words are onomatopœic words, imitatives. అనుకారము anu-kāramu. [Skt.] n. Imitation. Resemblance. పోలిక. అనుకారి anu-kāri. adj. Imitative. తద్వత్తుగాచేసే, ఒకడు చేసేటట్టుగా చేసే.

(p. 54) anugu or అనుంగు anugu. [Tel.] adj. Beloved, dear, desired. ప్రియమైన. 'అనుగు శిష్యుడైన.' A. iv. 233. 'అనుగుచెలికాడు.' ib. 542. అనుగు n. A friend. స్నేహితుడు, స్నేహితురాలు. అనుగుతనము anugu-tanamu. n. Friendship. స్నేహభావము, మిత్రత్వము. 'నన్ను గడురంజిలజేసె నితండు వచ్చి యిట్లనుగు తనంబుజూపెనె యటంచుతదుత్సుకతన్ బ్రవర్తిలెన్.'
