(p. 15) ande ande. [Tel.] n. A foot trinket of silver, filled with small pebbles in order to sound and worn by women on their ankles. నూపురము. అందెబందెలేని adj. Free from any trouble or annoyance. ఏ చిక్కున్నులేని, జంజాటములేని.

(p. 22) agacāṭlu agaṭsāṭlu. [Tel. from అగ్గము+చాటులు] అగ్గము+చాటులు] n. Evils, afflictions, troubles. కడగండ్లు, తిప్పలు. అగచాట్లుపడుచున్నాడు he suffers great distress. నన్ను అగచాట్లు పెట్టినాడు he brought me into trouble. అగచాట్లపోతు agaṭsāṭlapōtu. [Tel.] n. A wretch, a villain. దుష్టుడుగా తిరిగేవాడు. 'చిక్కు బిల్లలు మైనపు తేళ్లు చిక్కుముళ్లు జమిడాకు చిల్కలు తాళ్లపాములకట యగచాట్లపోతనై యాడుకొంటి.' H. iii. 192. అగచాట్లమారి agaṭsāṭlamāri. [Tel.] He who has suffered, a martyr, a sufferer. one who is thoroughly practised. నానాకడగండ్లు పడి తీరినవాడు, ఆరి తీరినవాడు.

(p. 35) aḍavi aḍavi. [Tel. from Skt. అటవి.] n. A forest, wilderness. కాననము. adj. Wild, of the forest, or desert. వవసంబంధమైన. (All wild species of plants or animals are distinguished by prefixing అడవి to their names. e. g., అడవికంద, అడవికాకర, అడవికోడి, అడవిచెరుకు, అడవిపంది, అడవిమామిడి, అడవిమేక, &c.) అడవి అవిసె aḍavi-avise [Tel.] n. A tree, the Bauhinia parviflora. అడవి ఆముదపుచెట్టు aḍaviAmudapu-cheṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A shrub, the Jatropha curcas. కొండాముదపుచెట్టు. అడవి కుక్క aḍavi-kukka. [Tel.] n. The wild dog. అడవి కోడి aḍavi-kōḍi. [Tel.] n. The jungle fowl. అడవిచిక్కుడు aḍavi-chikkuḍu. [Tel.] n. A kind of beans which grow wild. Dolichos tetraspermus. అడవినెల్లికూరచెట్టు aḍavi-nellikūra-cheṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A shrub, croton repandum. అడవిటిర aḍāvi-bīra. [Tel.] n. A plant, a sort of Ghosha with white flowers. అడవిమల్లె aḍavi-malle. [Tel.] n. Jasminum auguzti-folium. అడవిమునగ aḍavi-munaga. [Tel.] n. A plant, Hedysarum sennoides. అడవి మొల్ల aḍavi-molla. [Tel.] n. A sort of jasmine (Jasminum auriculatum.) Globe amaranth.

(p. 228) kacikkuna kachikkuna. [Tel.] adv. Slapdash, at once.

(p. 270) kāni or గాని kāni. [Tel.] (conj. denoting an alternative.) But, either, or, except, unless. And not, nor, Rather, Before. జాజియొక్కటియెకాని సకలకుసమ విసరసంపదచేనొప్పె వసుధయెల్ల , విరహణియెకానిధరణిపై వివిధజనులు సంతసములొందజేసె వసంతవేళ.' Sunandā Parinyam, iv. 22. 'ఆలలు మగనిమాట కడ్డంబు వచ్చెనా ఆలలుకాదది వానివ్రాలుకాని.' (Vēma.) ఇంతేకాని నేనేమెరుగను I know nothing but this. ఇదియేమోకాని I cannot tell what this may be. అదిగాని యిదిగాని either that or this. ఆపని పది దినములకుగాని కాదు that work cannot be finished in less than ten days. రేపుగాని రాడు he will not come here before to-morrow. ఉద్యోగము చిక్కుననే అపేక్ష ఉంటేగాని నేను అక్కడ ఉండను I would not have remained there had I not hoped to gain employment. ఇది అతని చేతగాని మరి యొకనిచేతకాదు he alone can do it, no one else can. ఎల్లవిధముల నిను వధియించిగాని పురికి నురుగముగావున for we will not return without slaying thee. అతడు వస్తేనేగాని యీపని కానేరదు unless he comes we cannot effect this. కాని or కానీ (for కానిమ్ము) imp. verb denoting assent. Let it be done. Be it so. Never mind. Very well. ఆ పని ముందరకానీ let that be done first. కానీ కానీ నీ కావరమణతు very well, I will crush your pride.

(p. 282) kiṭuku kiṭuku. [Tel.] n. A trick, device, secret, nicety. కపటము, మర్మము. కిటుకులు intricacies. చిక్కులు.

(p. 394) gōru gōru. [Tel.] n. A nail, a claw. In A. v. 30. గోళ్లు is rendered అరిటిపువ్వులో నుండే గద్దగోళ్లు అని వాడుకోబడే కుచ్చులవంటివి 'Hawk's claws,' i.e., the inside of a plantain blossom. adj. Slight, little. అల్పము. గోటికన్ను the quick of the nail. గోరుగల్లు or గోరుగొండి or గోర్లొండి gōru-gallu. n. An instrument for cutting the nails. గోరుగాలము gōru-gālamu. n. A kind of fishhook made of iron wire. గోరుచిక్కుడుకాయ gōru-chikkuḍu-kāya. n. The bean called Dolichos fabæformis. Rox. iii. 316. గోరుచిరణము gōru-chīra-ṇamu. n. A chisel with a bent edge. కొనయుండు వంపుగల ఉలి. గోరుచుట్టు gōru-ṭsuṭṭu. n. A whitlow. గోరుచుట్టుపై రోకటిపోటు a blow from a rice pounder on a whitlow, i.e., trouble upon trouble. గోరులి or గోరు ఉలి gōruli. n. A gouge, or round-bladed chisel. గోరువెచ్చ gōru-veṭsṭsa. n. and adj. Lukewarm, tepid, partly warm. గోరొత్తు gōr-ottu. v. a. To pinch. n. Pinching.

(p. 411) cikku or చిక్కుకొను chikku. [Tel.] v. n. To be found, to be caught, or ensnared. దొరకు. To remain, be left మిగులు. అది నాకు చిక్కినది I have got it. To stop or halt, to remain. వెనుకచిక్కు to remain behind, to fall in the rear. To grow thin or lean. కృశించు. చిక్కని సొమ్ముగానున్నది it is unattainable, it cannot be got. చిక్కించుకొను chikkinṭsu-konu. v. a. To get, obtain. చేతిలో చిక్కించుకొను to get into one's hands, to get hold of. వెతలచిక్కు to be seized with sorrow. ధైర్యము చిక్కనందున as I dared not do so. చిక్కినది the rest, the remainder. చిక్కిపోవు chikki-povu v. n. To become lean. చిక్కు n. A tangle, మెలి. A puzzle, perplexity, intricacy, confusion, entanglement, difficulty, distress, trouble. సంకటము, ఇబ్బంది. చిక్కులుపడు to be in distress or to get into difficulty సంకటపడు. చిక్కులబెట్టు to entangle, to involve, puzzle, to distress or harass; to pinch or stint. చిక్కతీయు to disentangle. చిక్కుగానున్నది it is puzzling. చిక్కుపడ్డ tangled or dishevelled as hair, చిక్కయిన. చిక్కుపాటు entanglement. చిక్కుపడుట, సంకటపడుట. చిక్కు adj. Puzzling, perplexing, entangled, intricate, confused, difficult, troublesome, baffled. చిక్కుజడలు tangled hair. చిక్కుకంపు a rancid smell (of oil .) చిక్కుతాళము. n. A lock with many wards, and which, like a patent lock, can only be opened by those who know it.

(p. 411) cikkuḍu chikkuḍu. [Tel.] n. The bean called Dolichos lablab. చిక్కుడుకాయ the pod of this plant. Different species of this are called ఎర్రచిక్కుడు, తెల్లచిక్కుడు, గోరుచిక్కుడు, అనచిక్కుడు, ఏనుగుచిక్కుడు, కోడిచిక్కుడు, తొండచిక్కుడు, ఉలనచిక్కుడు and సానచిక్కుడు. See under తగులము. ఆ యింటికి నిప్పుతగిలినది the house caught fire. ఇక్కడ గాలి తగులుచున్నది the wind strikes here, here we get the breeze. పెండ్లితగిలినది there was a marriage. ప్రయాణము తగిలినది he had occasion to make a journey. అక్కడ మంచినీళ్లు తగిలినవి there we found fresh water. వానికి దెబ్బతగిలినది he received a blow. కుండ కాలికి తగిలినది the pot touched my foot. ఓడ మెరకు తగిలినది the ship ran aground. వానికి రోగముతగలకుండ to prevent his catching the disease. అతనితిట్లు నాకు తగలలేదు his abuse did not affect me. ఇది వానిమనసునకు తగిలినది this was impressed upon his mind. వెంటతగులు to pursue. తగులుకొని వచ్చిరి they attacked, they followed. అడ్డముతగులు to oppose, to come in the way. పదిరూకలు తగిలినవి it cost ten cash. తగులుకొను tagulu-konu. v. n. To be involved or entangled with. చిక్కుకొను. To fall in love with. వలచు. To catch fire. అది వాణ్ని తగులుకొనిపోయినది she has gone off with him. ఆ యిల్లు తగులుకొన్నది the house caught fire. తగలబడు or తగులబడు tagala-baḍu. v. n. To burn or be set on fire. ఇల్లు తగలబడ్డది the house was burnt. తగలబెట్టు or తగులబెట్టు tagala-beṭṭu. v. a. To set fire to, to kindle, to burn అడివిని తగలబెట్టిరి they burned the forest. తగులుబడి tagulu-baḍi. n. Expense, charge, cost, outlay. పట్టుబడి. తగులుబాటు tagulu-bāṭu. n. Charge, cost, expense. తగులవడు to be caught. చిక్కు, పట్టుపడు.

(p. 506) tanakali tanakali. [Tel.] n. A tangle. చిక్కు, తనకలికొప్పు a tangled knot of hair. A difficulty, puzzle, చిక్కు, సంకటము. One who creates difficulties చిక్కులబెట్టువాడు.
