(p. 141) illu or ఇలు illu. [Tel. The primitive. form is ఇల్ which means 'a house. ఆలయము (q. v.) borrowed by Skt. from Drav. means (1) house and (2) 'God's abode' or house cf. కోయిల or కోవెల. In the Chaldee word 'Babylon (= bab-ilu), the latter part 'ilu' means 'God' by a transition of ideas.] n. A house, a chamber, room. Home, place, caste, family. A place or space in a table of accounts. A square at draughts or chess. (Genit. ఇంటి Dat. ఇంటికి. Loc. ఇంటిలో or ఇంట. Plural ఇండ్లు or ఇళ్లు.) మీరు ఏయిండ్లవారు who are you? of what family are you. 'మన యింటి చేటు చూచితే.' నిర్వ. ix. ఇంటిగుట్టు a family secret. ఇంటికి దూరమైన ceremonially unclean, i.e., ఋతుమతి యైన In poems మరునిల్లు is the భగము. ఇల్లు నింపడము setting up a house, house-warming వధూవరుల నూతన గృహప్రవేశము.

(p. 185) eḍala eḍala. [Tel. Plu: of ఎడ, the final A being the Locative sign.] prep. Towards, regarding, touching, in the matter of. In the event of, in case, if. అట్లు చేసినయెడల in doing so or if it is done so. వాడు నన్ను చూచినయెడల if he saw me. నాయెడల regarding me. ఆయెడల on that occasion, or if so.

(p. 451) cūpu ṭsūpu. [Tel. from చూచు.] n. Slight, a look, vision, glance. లక్ష్మి అతణ్ని చిన్న చూపుచూచినది fortune frowned on him. చిన్నచూపు humiliation, contempt. బ్రతికే చూపు కనిపించలేదు there was no prospect of his living longer. చూపోపు (చూపు+ఓపు) to endure the sight of. చూడ సహించు. చూపోపక unable to stand before his face. A. v. 78. చూపు or చూపించు v. a. To shew, point out. భయముచూపించు to frighten. అన్నము చూపించు to provide for, give bread to. ఆశ చూపించు to hold out hopes or prospects. చూపుడుకోక a transparent petticoat. చూపుగుర్రము or చూపుడుగుర్రము tsūpu-gurramu. n. A block head, a useless man. పనికి ఉపయోగము కానివాడు. చూపుడువేలు ṭsūpuḍu-vēlu. n. The forefinger. జుట్టునవేలు. చూపరులు ṭsūp-arulu. n. Spectators, bystanders. చూపరి ṭsūpari. n. A handsome woman, or man. చక్కనివాడు, లేక, చక్కనిది.

(p. 452) cūra ṭsūra. [Tel.] n. Powder, dust పొడి. Plunder, spoil కొల్ల. వజ్రములచూర (for చూర్ణము) Diamond dust.ముత్తెపుచూర pearl powder. 'కన్చూరలుగోన్న.' అనగా కండ్లపండుగగాచూచిన. (Satyabh. iii. 22) he thought his very eyes enriched. చూరగా freely, liberally, to the full, to satiety. చురయిచ్చు to cast to the dogs: to give lavishly. చూరకొను, చూరపుచ్చు, చూరలాడు or చూరాడు to plunder, waste, ravage, చూరవిడుచు to give up to be plundered, as a conquered city. చూరయేట a scape goat, one let go as a sacrifice. చూరకారుడు a plunderer. చూరకోలు plundering చూరపోవు to be plundered.

(p. 508) tappu tappu. [Tel.] v. n. To err, fail, cease. To be lost, broken, changed, made void, or erroneous. దైవానుగ్రహము తప్పినందున through the divine favour being lost. To drop off, as a shackle. To go off, abate, as a pain. రేపుతప్పినది the ford is missed. అడుగులో పిడుగుతిప్పు a great mistake in a short space. ఆయువుతప్పినవాడయినాడు he declined into the vale of years. v. a. To transgress, to miss. తప్పుచేయు, అతిక్రమించు. దినము తప్పుదినము every other day, missing one day in turn. ఒకటితప్పి ఒకటి one now and then; here and there one. తప్పివచ్చినపని a thing that happened unexpectedly, or out of the common way. మాటతప్పు to break one's word or promise. తప్పక tappaka. adv. Unfailingly, steadfastly, steadily, certainly, surely. తప్పచూచు tappa-ṭsūṭsu. v. t. To disregard. దైవము తప్ప చూచినందున as God withdrew his favour. తప్పు or తప్పితము or తప్పిదము. (తప్పు+ఇతము or ఇదము.) n. An error, fault, mistake, offence. తప్పుపలుకు to say what is wrong or false. తప్పులుపట్టు to find fault with, to cavil. adj. Erroneous, mistaken, faulty, wrong. Foul or entangled. తప్పుకూడు unlawful food. తప్పుటడుగులు పెట్టు to stagger or totter as an infant. తప్పుదారి or తప్పుదోవ a wrong road. తప్పించు tappinṭsu. v. a. To extricate, to set free విడిపించు. To take away, remove, lose, shift, alter. తాడు తప్పించుట to get the cord free, to extricate it. నా జీవనము తప్పించినాడు he took away my living. To elude ముఖము తప్పించు to abscond. To cause to cross over, pass by, transgress, depart from (an agreement.) దోవతప్పించినాడు he misled me. తప్పించుకొను tappinṭsu-konu. v. n. To get free, to escape. ప్రాణము తప్పించుకొని వస్తిని I escaped with my life. తప్పుడు or తప్పుదల. tappuḍu. n. Missing, making a mistake తప్పుట. తప్పుడు adj. Wrong తప్పైన. తప్పుడుపడు or తప్పుపడు to make a mistake సరితప్పు.

(p. 519) tavvu or త్రవ్వు tavvu. [Tel.] v. a. or v. n. To dig. కాలుత్రవ్రు to paw or spurn the ground. to be eager for. ఊరక తవ్వుకొన్నట్టు అవుతుంది this is merely beating about the bush. పాతరతవ్వుకొను to open a closed grain pit. తవ్వకము or తవ్వాటము tavvakamu. n. Digging, excavation, breaking up soil. తవ్వించు tavvinṭsu. v. n. To cause to dig up. నా యిల్లు తవ్వించి సోదాచూచినారు they dug up the floor of my house and ransacked it. తవ్వుగోల or తవుగోల tavvugōla. n. A spade.

(p. 522) tānu tānu. [Tel.] pron. (reflexive.) Self, one, oneself. (G. తన. D. తనకు. Acc. తన్ను. plu. తాము, తమరు. G. తమ.) తనకుతానె voluntarily, of itself, of his own accord. తమకుతామే they of themselves. తాను చెడ్డకోతి వనమెల్లచెరిచినది one good-for-nothing monkey ruins the whole garden. తననే చూచినారు తననే చూచినారు (B. viii. 421.) they beheld him himself. తన్ను కాదనియెంచును (Vēma) he will not see that he is the person in question. తన్నుంచిరానట్టితప్పుకలదె. (Ila. iii. 56.) is there any error that does not spring from one's own folly?

(p. 640) nā n&amacr. [Tel. from. నేను.] pron. I adj. My. నా (Contraction for నాకు to lick.) నా చూచు to taste. 'విను నా చూచిన మూచూచిన భోజ్యము నింద్యము.' M. XIII. iv. 105. నాన్ nān. Contracted for అనన్ On (his) saying this, అనేటప్పటికి. R. iv. 4. నావిని on his saying so, అట్లు అనగా విని. 'ఆప్తాళి నమర్చెనా.' Vasu. iv. 6.

(p. 708) pani pani. [Tel.] n. Work, a task. కర్మము. Business, employment, వ్యాపారము. Workmenship, శిల్పము. ఈ కట్టడమునందు మంచిపని చేసియున్నారు there is good workmanship in this building. An affair, act, matter. Service, utility, purpose, object, intention, design. ప్రయోజనము. An order, duty, నియోగము. పనిమీద ఉన్నాడు he is busy. మంచిపని very well, well, good. మంచిపనిచేసినావు you did well or right. అతని పనిచూస్తున్నాను I am engaged in his service: I am acting for him. అతనిపని తీర్చినారు they settled his business, or they killed him. ఇక్కడ నీకేమిపని what business have you here? This word is sometimes omitted in translating; as in నీపనిపట్టిస్తాను I will punish you. ఇంతపనికి నన్నేల వెంటబెట్టుకొనివచ్చినావు why have you brought me for such a trifle or pretence? పనికిమాలి (or) పనిచెడి కూర్చున్నాడు he is sitting idle. వారు వ్యాధిచేత పనిచెడిరి they became infirm through illness. వానితో విరోధము పనికిరాదు he will not stand quarrelling. దాన్ని సంపాదించడము ఎంతపని it is no great matter to get it. నాపని చెరిపినారు they spoiled my work. పనిచెరువుకథలు idle stories. పనికి వచ్చే useful. పనికివచ్చే పిల్లకాయ a promising boy. పనికిరాని or పనికిమాలి useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు about what business did you go there? నీపనిని నీవు చూచుకొనుము mind your own business. అక్కడికి పోవలసినపనిలేదు there is no need of going there. ఇప్పట్లో వానిపని యిట్లు ఉన్నది he is now in this state. అట్లు చెప్ప పని లేదు there is no need of saying so. పనిగొను pani-gonu. v. a. To undertake a work, to engage in a business. పూనుకొను. To employ, నియోగించు. 'పనిగొనవుతెలియగ బరికించి చూచిన.' Vēma. పనితనము pani-ta-namu. n. Workmanship, elegance. పనితనముగల ఒక మంచము a handsome bed. పనితొడవులు pani-toḍarulu. n. Worked or embossed jewels. పనిపడు or పనివడు pani-paḍu. v. n. To busy oneself with. to engage in, పూనుకొను. To concern oneself with, అక్కరపడు. పనివడి or పనిపడి pani-paḍi. adv. Intentionally. కావలెనని, ప్రయత్నపూర్వకముగా. 'పరులను పనిపడి దూషించెనేని పాపము వచ్చున్.' V. P. iv. 249. పనివాటులు jobs, work. పనిముట్టు or పనిమటము pani-muṭṭu. n. An instrument, tool, impelement. కొరముట్టు, ఉపకరణము. 'పనిమటములుగొంచు పయనమైరండు.' Pal. 314. పనివంచు, పని పంచు or పనిగొను pani-vanṭsu. v. a. To command. నియోగించు. పనివాడు pani-vāḍu. n. A servant: a good workman. పనివిను pani-vinu. v. n. To obtain permission, to take leave. To proceed, to go or come. 'దేవర కీర్తి వెక్కసంబుగ జెప్పవిని చూడగోరి, పనివిని నేను మాభాగ్యంబుకతన.' H.D.i. 847.

(p. 880) bāḷi bāḷi. [Tel.] n. Concern; affection, emotion, passion, love, desire, lust. కాంక్ష, విచారము; ఆశ, ఆసక్తి, మోసము. 'చూడకుండంగగూడదీసుదతిసొబగు చూచినంత నెమదిలోనజొచ్చెబాళి.' T. iii. 75.

(p. 918) bharaṇamu bharanamu. [Skt.] n. Cherishing, maintaining, nourishing, supporting భరించుట. Dowry, స్త్రీధనము. Wages, hire. కూలి, జీతము. భుక్తికైనాహరణభరణ శక్తి చూచినాను I did it to the best of my ability to get my bread. భత్యభరణములు batta and wages. Also, a land measure in Ganjam equal to about one-fifth of an acre.

(p. 933) mañjūṣa manjūsha. [Skt.] n. A large basket or box. పెద్దపెట్టె. మం౛స or మందసము manḍzasa. [from మంజూష.] n. A box or ark. 'మాతుడరుగుదెంచిచూచిరత్న, పుంజుభరితమైనమంజనలోనున్న, కొడుకుదానితోనగొనుచువచ్చి.' M. I. v. 36.

(p. 964) masalu or మసులు masalu [Tel.] v. n. To delay, to tarry, తచ్చాడు, తిరుగు. To roam, wander, walk or go about for pleasure, విహరించు, జాగుచేయు, తడయు. To hesitate, సందేహించు, అనుమానించు. To be gorged, or heavy with eating, వెక్కసముగా తిని బాధపడు To boil violently, నీళ్లు మిక్కిలికాగు. To turn back, వెనుకకుతిరుగు. దానికి నెలమసలినది a month has passed with her, i.e., she has been a month pregnant. పాము కప్పను తిని మసలుచున్నది the snake is sluggish being gorged. నీళ్లు మసలుచున్నవి లేక, మరుగుచున్నవి the water is boiling violently. 'తమకము మానిచనుండన్న నవియు మసలకచనియెన్.' Swa. vi. 85. 'పసరపుమాంసముబెట్టియు, మసలకసుల్తాను ముసలమానులజేసెన్, పసచెలులయధరమాంసము, గుసుమాస్త్రుడుపెట్టిచెరిచె గులములవేమా.' Vēma 814. 'కసిగాయ గరచిచూచిన, మసలకమరియొకరెకాక మధురంబగునే.' Sumati. 62. మసలుకొను Same as మసలు. మారుమసలు māru-masalu. v. n. To rival, match, to oppose, to front, సరిగా ఎదిరించు.

(p. 1012) musiñcu musinṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To become silly or foolish, to be silly, play the fool. చెడు. నీకు ఏల ఇట్లు బుద్ధి ముసించినది why are you so silly? వానికి బుద్ధిముసించినదిhe has lost his wits. వానికి బుద్ధిముసించి ఆ కాగితము ఎత్తి చూచినాడు he was off his guard and took the letter and read it.
