(p. 206) oka oka. [Tel. Not derived from Skt. వొక, as other words denoting the numerals col show, but cognate with it] adj. A, an, one: ఒక్క. ఒక కోవందరు a few or some few. కొండొక some, some little, as కొండొకసేపు a little time. ఒకరీతిగా after a manner. ఒక పని నిమిత్తము about a certain affair. Adding the intensive ఏ it gives the sense of only: thus ఒకే యిల్లు, or ఒక యిల్లే only one house. వారు ఒక చెయ్యిగానున్నారు they are hand in hand, leagued together. ఒకనాడును ఒప్పడు he will never assent. ఇది ఒకలాగున ఉన్నది this is after a fashion, i.e., is odd, such as cannot be defined. నాకు ఒక విశముగానున్నది I feel very queer, I am out of sorts. ఒకప్పుడు at one time, once. ఒకవేళ at one time, perhaps. ఒకవేళ అట్లా చేసినా if he ever does so, in case he does so. ఒకింత or ఒక్కింత okinta. (ఒక+ఇంత) n. So much: a little, some trifle, ever so little.

(p. 430) ceyi, cēyi or చెయ్యి cheyi. [Tel.] n. A hand The arm. A sleeve. An elephant's trunk. Five (in counting, as three hands, i.e., fifteen.) అరచెయ్యి or లోచెయ్యి the palm of the hand. మీదిచెయ్యి or మీజెయి the back of the hand. ముంజెయ్యి the wrist. మోచెయ్యి the elbow. దండచెయ్యి the upper arm. చెయిదము, చెయిది or చెయ్దు cheyidamu. [Tel. from చేయు.] n. An act, action, doing. కృత్యము, చేష్ట. 'చేతకానిచెయిదములు చేయక.' M. XII. ii. 415. చెయిపట్టు cheyi-paṭṭu. v. n. To adopt, protect, take by the hand. To seize or ravish a woman. To marry. To foster. చెయ్యిన్రాలలలు or చేవ్రాలు cheyi-vrālu. n. Handwriting, a signature. వారందరు ఒక చెయ్యిగానున్నారు they are all hand in hand, hand and glove with each other. ఆ పని చెయ్యికూడివచ్చినది the business turned out well. చేతికిందిమనిషి a servant, a slave. చేతిపని hand-work. చేతిసొమ్ము money in hand, cash. అతని చేతివాడు one of his creatures or hangers on. చెయ్యివెల sale for ready money. రొక్కపు వెల. చెయ్యి సాగినంతలో when your hand is in, when you have the opportunity. In some phrases the word may be left untranslated: as నా చేతికిచ్చెను he gave it to me; lit. to my hand చెయికావలి means a supply of rice, &c., provided for dinner at a future stage in a journey. చెయ్యికావలికి నాలుగు రూపాయలు ఎత్తిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he laid up something to meet contingencies. కరిడిచెయ్యి అద్దము like a looking glass in the hand of a bear. చేతకాని idle, paltry, incapable. In some compounds it means extra, as చెయ్యికావలి or చెయ్యిజాగ్రత a reserve, or extra ground; చెయ్యితడి ఆరకముందు తీర్చివెయ్యి do it before your hand cools. చెయ్యియీటె a small spear. తాళపుచెయ్యి a key. నీచేతినుంచి తగులుతుంది, or, చెయ్యికరుచును you will have to lay out some money. చెయ్యిచేసికొను to handle, interfere, meddle with, to use the hand: to take the law into one's own hands and beat. చెయ్యివిడుచు to abandon, desert, give over (a person.) చెయ్యిచూచు to feel the pulse. చెయ్యితిరిగిన cheyyi-tirigina. adj. Experienced, expert, handy. చెయువు or చెయ్వు cheyuvu. n. An act, an action.

(p. 798) pai or పయి pai. [Tel.] n. The upper part of any thing, the outer part or exterior మీదు, ఉపరిభాగము. adj. Upper, higher superior. External. Extra. పైచుంగుడి petty sums that remain over. వానిపైబట్ట the garment he had on. ఆపైయేడు the next year, either before or after, ముందుఏడు. పైవిరోధము seeming enmity. పైపనులు the further acts; also, out-door work. వాడు నాకు పైచెయ్యిగానుండును he is my superior. వట్టిపైమాటలు this is mere talk. పైమినుకు mere external beauty. పైవెల్లువ freshes in a river. దానికి అందరును పైబడుదురు all are eager to get it. పైకొను or పయికొను pai-konu. v. n. and a. To exceed, మీరు. To come upon (with hostile intent) మీదికి వచ్చు. To get upon, mount, on attack and overcome. కవియు. To attempt, యత్నించు. To happen, కలుగు. పైకొలుపు pai-kolupu. To cause to happen, to fall upon, &c. 'తన తరుణియగునో కాదోయని సందియ మందినిక్క మరయుదునని పైకొను ఘనపరితాపంబున వనితంగనిపల్కె.' HK. v. 53. పైగస్తీ pai-gasthī. [H.] n. A patrol.పైగా pai-gā. adv. Above, up. In future, hereafter. పైనచెప్పు go on, speak on. పైననడపవలసినదియేమి what is to be done afterwards? నిన్ను శిక్షించేవాడు పైన ఉన్నాడు there is one above who will punish you. పైనబడకుము or పైబడకుము do not touch me. పైపక్కపడు pai-pakka-paḍu. v. n. To caress, పక్కలపైనబడు. 'అయ్యయయ్యయటంచు నెయ్యంబుమీరగా పలుమారు పైబక్కబడకయుంట.' N. ix. 103. పైపడు or పైబడు pai-paḍu. v. n. To fall upon, attack, పైకొను, కవియు. To exceed మీరు ఆ గుర్రమునకు అందరును పైబడుచున్నారు all of them are contending for the horse. M. x. i. 145. పైపాటు pai-pāṭu. n. An attack or encounter, కవియుట. పైపైగా pai-pai-gā. adv. Easily, superficially, cursorily, సులభముగా. పైయెద్దు or పైవన్నెయెద్దు pai-y-eddu. n. An ox with the belly alone white, called a sheeted ox. పైవిలాసము pai-vilāsamu. n. A superscription or address on a letter.

An upper storey, చంద్రశాల. మేలుమచ్చులు a kind of game played by boys. మేలురాసి mēlu rāṣi. n. The top part of a heap of winnowed grain. తూర్పెత్తిన ధాన్యపుసోగు. మేలువాడు mēlu-vāḍu. n. A lover, విటుడు, వలపుకాడు, మంచివాడు. 'అంతరాధకుమేలు వాడైమురారి.' A. v. 56.

(p. 1113) lōceyyi, lōceyi, lōjeyyi or లోజెయి lōcheyyi. [Tel.] n. The palm of the hand. అరచెయ్యి. 'పడనీక లోచేత బెడచేతవ్రేయు.' BD. iv. 196. ఈతనిమంత్రి శత్రువులకు లోచెయ్యిగానున్నాడు his minister is plotting with the enemey.
