(p. 101) asamarthamu a-samarthamu. [Skt.] adj. Unable, incompetent. అసక్తమైన. అసమర్థుడు a-samarthuḍu. n. He who is unable or incompetent. అశక్తుడు, చేతకానివాడు.

(p. 180) embanna embanna. [Tel. ఎంబె+అన్న] n. A idiot, a good-for-nothing fellow. చేతకానివాడు.

(p. 270) kāni kāni. [Tel.] (neg. part of అగు.) Which cannot be done. కొరగాని useless. చేతకాని unskilled, awkward. అనువుకానివేళ at an inconvenient time. కాని adj. Bad, vile, envious. కానిగుణము a vile temper. కానికులము a low caste. కానివాడు an enemy. కానిపని a vile act.

(p. 270) kāni or గాని kāni. [Tel.] (conj. denoting an alternative.) But, either, or, except, unless. And not, nor, Rather, Before. జాజియొక్కటియెకాని సకలకుసమ విసరసంపదచేనొప్పె వసుధయెల్ల , విరహణియెకానిధరణిపై వివిధజనులు సంతసములొందజేసె వసంతవేళ.' Sunandā Parinyam, iv. 22. 'ఆలలు మగనిమాట కడ్డంబు వచ్చెనా ఆలలుకాదది వానివ్రాలుకాని.' (Vēma.) ఇంతేకాని నేనేమెరుగను I know nothing but this. ఇదియేమోకాని I cannot tell what this may be. అదిగాని యిదిగాని either that or this. ఆపని పది దినములకుగాని కాదు that work cannot be finished in less than ten days. రేపుగాని రాడు he will not come here before to-morrow. ఉద్యోగము చిక్కుననే అపేక్ష ఉంటేగాని నేను అక్కడ ఉండను I would not have remained there had I not hoped to gain employment. ఇది అతని చేతగాని మరి యొకనిచేతకాదు he alone can do it, no one else can. ఎల్లవిధముల నిను వధియించిగాని పురికి నురుగముగావున for we will not return without slaying thee. అతడు వస్తేనేగాని యీపని కానేరదు unless he comes we cannot effect this. కాని or కానీ (for కానిమ్ము) imp. verb denoting assent. Let it be done. Be it so. Never mind. Very well. ఆ పని ముందరకానీ let that be done first. కానీ కానీ నీ కావరమణతు very well, I will crush your pride.

(p. 430) ceyi, cēyi or చెయ్యి cheyi. [Tel.] n. A hand The arm. A sleeve. An elephant's trunk. Five (in counting, as three hands, i.e., fifteen.) అరచెయ్యి or లోచెయ్యి the palm of the hand. మీదిచెయ్యి or మీజెయి the back of the hand. ముంజెయ్యి the wrist. మోచెయ్యి the elbow. దండచెయ్యి the upper arm. చెయిదము, చెయిది or చెయ్దు cheyidamu. [Tel. from చేయు.] n. An act, action, doing. కృత్యము, చేష్ట. 'చేతకానిచెయిదములు చేయక.' M. XII. ii. 415. చెయిపట్టు cheyi-paṭṭu. v. n. To adopt, protect, take by the hand. To seize or ravish a woman. To marry. To foster. చెయ్యిన్రాలలలు or చేవ్రాలు cheyi-vrālu. n. Handwriting, a signature. వారందరు ఒక చెయ్యిగానున్నారు they are all hand in hand, hand and glove with each other. ఆ పని చెయ్యికూడివచ్చినది the business turned out well. చేతికిందిమనిషి a servant, a slave. చేతిపని hand-work. చేతిసొమ్ము money in hand, cash. అతని చేతివాడు one of his creatures or hangers on. చెయ్యివెల sale for ready money. రొక్కపు వెల. చెయ్యి సాగినంతలో when your hand is in, when you have the opportunity. In some phrases the word may be left untranslated: as నా చేతికిచ్చెను he gave it to me; lit. to my hand చెయికావలి means a supply of rice, &c., provided for dinner at a future stage in a journey. చెయ్యికావలికి నాలుగు రూపాయలు ఎత్తిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he laid up something to meet contingencies. కరిడిచెయ్యి అద్దము like a looking glass in the hand of a bear. చేతకాని idle, paltry, incapable. In some compounds it means extra, as చెయ్యికావలి or చెయ్యిజాగ్రత a reserve, or extra ground; చెయ్యితడి ఆరకముందు తీర్చివెయ్యి do it before your hand cools. చెయ్యియీటె a small spear. తాళపుచెయ్యి a key. నీచేతినుంచి తగులుతుంది, or, చెయ్యికరుచును you will have to lay out some money. చెయ్యిచేసికొను to handle, interfere, meddle with, to use the hand: to take the law into one's own hands and beat. చెయ్యివిడుచు to abandon, desert, give over (a person.) చెయ్యిచూచు to feel the pulse. చెయ్యితిరిగిన cheyyi-tirigina. adj. Experienced, expert, handy. చెయువు or చెయ్వు cheyuvu. n. An act, an action.

(p. 433) cēta chēta. [Tel. from చేయు or చెయ్యి.] (Locative) In the hand. నాచేత అయ్యేపని చేస్తాను I will do what I can. ఆ పని నీచేత అవునా can you do that work? వారి చేత పుచ్చుకొంటిని I received it from them or at their hands. n. Doing, చేయుట, An act, action. పని. చేతకాని uncanny, useless, unprofitable, awkward, vile. చేతకాడు an able man క్రియావంతుడు. (As an affix.) By, through, by means of, with. నిజహస్తంబుచేత.' (HD. i. 1612.) with his own hand. చేతగట్టు an artificial mound కృతకాద్రి.

(p. 506) tanamu tanamu. [Tel.] An affix, added to many nouns and adjectives to give them an abstract or a collective force like త్వం in Sanskrit words, and ness, tion, ment in English words, thus: దొరతనము government, దండితనము greatness, మంచితనము goodness, పిల్లతనము childishness, గట్టితనము solidity, గొప్పతనము largeness, మిటారితనము playfulness, గొల్లతనము the peasantry, the shepherd class, బల్లితనము the being a lizard: the being born as a lizard, కాపుతనము the farmer class. It is added like-wise to past participles as తెలియ నితనము silliness, ignorance. చేతకానితనము awkwardness.

(p. 676) nepparamu or నెప్పళము nepparamu. [Tel.] n. Fastness, swiftness, వేగము. 'వ అత్తరిందత్తరంబున దత్తడిం బల్లింప నేరక నెప్పళంబున నెక్కబోవువారును.' Parij. iv. 74. టీ తత్తడింబల్లింపనేరక గుర్రమునకు పల్లమువేయడమునకు చేతకాక, నెప్పళంబున నెక్కబోవువారును గ్రక్కుననెక్క నాయత్త పడువారును.
