(p. 74) amāni amānī. [H.] Land in charge of a revenue collector on the part of the government, as distinguished from that which is farmed out. అమానీగ్రామములు villages under the immediate care of a collector. ఆముఠా అమానీ అయిన తరువాత after the land was taken into the collector's own charge. ఆశ్రోత్రియమును అమానీదాఖలు చేసుకొన్న తరువాత after the land held on private tenure was taxed. అమానిభూములు Crown lands, lands that are in the hands of a collector on behalf of Government. అమానీబాజీబాబు sundry farms under a Collector's management. పన్ను లేకుండా మేడిపాలు ఇచ్చే భూమి.

(p. 319) konu konu. [Tel.] The sign of the middle voice in the Telugu verb, as తెచ్చుకొను, and తెలిసికొను. ఇల్లు కట్టుకొన్నారు they built a house for themselves. ఇల్లు కట్టించుకొన్నారు they got a house built for themselves. హత్య he killed himself. చేసుకొన్నాడు he got himself tattooed. పచ్చపొడిపించుకొన్నాడు he who lends upon mortgage. Wherever self is used in English this middle verb is used. The causal form of కొను is కొలుపు (q. v.)

(p. 597) dīkṣa dīksha. [Skt.] n. A vow. Sacrificing, offering oblations. Worshipping, యజ్ఙాది క్రియారంభమునందు అనుష్ఠింపబూనుకొనే ఆచార నియమము. A marriage vow. వ్రతాదులయందు నియమమును పూనుకొనడము వానిని చంపకవిడువను అని దీక్ష చేసుకొన్నాడు he vowed he would slay them. గర్భదీక్ష a vow whereby the husband remains unshorn pending the wife's pregnancy. వివాహదీక్ష a marriage vow. ఏకదీక్షగా uninterruptedly. దీక్షాగురుడు dīkshā-guruḍu. n. A spiritual adviser, వానికి అతడు దీక్షాగురువు. దీక్షాలయము dīksh-ālayamu. n. A convent, a hermitage, a cell. దీక్షించు dīkshinṭsu. v. n. To make a vow. దీక్ష వహించవు. దీక్షితుడు dīkshi-tuḍu. n. One who is under a vow. దీక్షవహించినవాడు.

(p. 778) pūja or పూజనము pūja. [Skt.] n. Worship, reverence, respect, veneration, obeisance, homage, adoration. అర్చన. ఇది వాడు చేసుకొన్న పూజాఫలము this is an answer to his prayers. పూజకుడు pūjakuḍu. n. A worshipper, a priest. అర్చకుడు. పూజనీయము pūjanīyamu. adj. Venerable, honourable. M. XIII. v. 29. పూజనీయులు the noble. పూజించు or పూజచేయు pūjinṭṣu v. a. To worship, adore, do homage or obeisance to, reverence. అర్పించు. పూజితము pūjitamu. adj. Worshipped, adored, reverend, reverenced. పూజితుడు pūjituḍu. n. One who is honoured or saintly, పూజింపబడినవాడు. పూజ్యత pūjyata. n. Venerableness. పూజ్యము pūjyamu. adj. Venerable, deserving of respect and reverence. n. Nothing. భోజనానకు పూజ్యమున్నది I have nothing to live upon. పూజ్యుడు pūjyuḍu. n. One who is venerable or honourable, పూజింపదగినవాడు, గౌరవమునకు పాత్రుడు. పూజ్యుడైన pūjyḍ-aina. adj. Venerable, adorable.

(p. 1112) lōkuva lōkuva. [Tel.] adj. Subordinate, inferior, subject to. అధీనము. లొచ్చైన. తక్కువ. బీదవాడు బిచ్చగానికికూడా లోకువ the poor man is beneath even a beggar. నేను అందరికిన్నీ లోకువ I am every man's servant, I am a slave to every body. మాకు లోకువగానుండేవారు those who are subject to us. 'కంతుబారికిన్ లోకువగానివారు ధరలోగలరే.' T. iii. 84. వాండ్లను లోకువచేసుకొన్నాడు he got them into his power.

(p. 1295) sannidhānamu or సన్నిధి sanni-dhānamu. [Skt.] n. Proximity, nearness, vicinity, presence. నికటము, సమీపము. తమ సన్నిధిలో మనవిచేసుకొన్నాను I have informed your honor of this అది తమ సన్నిధానములోనే ఉన్నది it is near your hands. తమ సన్నిధానవర్తులు those who are in your presence, i.e., your servants.

(p. 1375) svayamu svayamu. [Skt.] adj. One's own, స్వకీయమైన. స్వయముగా svayamu-gā. adv. Of one's own self or accord, spontaneously, in person. తానే, తనకుతానే, స్వేచ్ఛగా. ఆయన స్వయముగా వచ్చిరి he came in person. స్వయముగా ఆడే యంత్రము an automaton or self-moving machine. స్వయంకృతము svayam-kṛitamu. adj. Self-done, self-formed. తనకుతానే చేసుకొన్న. స్వయంకృతానర్థము harm brought upon oneself. స్వయంకృతాపరాధము a sin committed voluntarily. స్వయంకృషి svayam-kṛishi. n. Personal effort, own labour, self-culture. స్వప్రయత్నము, తానే పడెడిపాటు. స్వయంకృషిచేత సంపాదింపబడిన సొమ్ము property which is acquired by personal labour. అతని స్వయంకృషి కింద నుండు భూమి lands the cultivation of which he kept in his own hands. స్వయంపాకము svayam-pākamu. n. Rice, &c. given to a guest for him to cook and eat. ఒకనికొక పూటకయ్యేటట్టు ఇచ్చే పప్పుబియ్యము మొదలైనవి. స్వయంపాకమిచ్చు to give rice, &c., to another to be cooked by himself and eaten. ఒక స్వయంపాకము ఇప్పించు to give rice, &c., to a man for one meal. Cooking, particularly if performed with one's own hand: cooking in general, తానేవండుకొనడము, వంట. నేటి స్వయంపాక మెవరిది who has cooked to-day? who has given (you) this day's food? అంతామనసులో స్వయంపాకము చేస్తున్నాడు he keeps his thoughts to himself. స్వయంపాకి svayam-pāki. n. One who cooks for himself. తనకుతానే వంట చేసికొనువాడు. స్వయంభువు svayam-bhuvu. adj. Self existent, self formed, self produced. తనకుతానే పుట్టిన, వుట్టి నది పుట్టినట్టుగా ఉండే. స్వయంభూరవ a rough diamond. స్వయంభూలింగము a natural image, a store uncarved by man. n. The Self-existent One. The Creator, దేవుడు. స్వయంవరము svayam-varamu. n. Choice of a husband by oneself; the public choice of a husband by a princess. తానే మగనిని కోరుకొనడము, స్వయంవరోత్సవము a day appointed for the selection of a husband by a princess out of an assembly of suitors. స్వయంవరము చాటించు to proclaim a Swayamvara. స్వయంవ్యక్తము svayam-vyaktamu. adj. Self formed. స్వయంభువైన. స్వయంవ్యక్తమూర్తి a self formed image.

(p. 1377) svādhīnamu sv-ādhīnamu. [Skt. స్వ+అధీనము.] n. Charge, trust, subjection, possession, power, control. వశము, అధికారము. వారు అతని స్వాధీనములో నున్నారు they are under his control. దాన్ని నీ స్వాధీనము చేస్తిని I gave it into your charge. వాని చెయ్యి వాని స్వాధీనము లోలేదు he cannot use his hand. తాను దానిని స్వాధీన పరచుకొన్నాడు he got it into his possession. ప్రస్తుతము స్వాధీనముకాని సొమ్ము money not available at present. ఆ పని తన స్వాధీనము చేసుకొన్న తరువాత after he undertook the affair or took it into his own hands. స్వాధీనపతిక sv-ādhīna-pati-ka. n. A self-willed woman, one who rules her husband. చెప్పినట్లు ఆడే మగడుగల ఆడది. స్వాధీనుడు sv-ādhīnuḍu. n. A dependent, an obedient man, one who is subject to another, one who is sub-servient, docile, or tractable. వశ్యుడు. విధేయుడు. వారు స్వాధీనులుకారు they are disobedient. తనకు స్వాధీనుడుగా నుండే తమ్ముని పంపించినాడు he sent his brother who was under his control. స్వాధీనురాలు sv-ādhīnu-r-ālu. n. A woman who is subject to, or submissive. విధేయురాలు.
