(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 72) abhīṣṭamu abhīshṭamu. [Skt.] adj. Wished. desired, beloved. ప్రియమైన, కోరబడిన, అభీష్టము n. Wish, desire, inclination. ఇష్టము, కోరిక, కోరబడినది.

(p. 83) aruvu aruvu. [Tel.] n. A loan in grains. ధాన్యాదుల అప్పు. అరుపుకాపు a tenant. అద్దె కాపు. అరువు. [cf. Tamil అరివి] n. Good sense; judgement; the reasoning faculty. తెలివి. వానికి అరువు చెడినది he has lost his wits. అరువుతిక్క aruvu-tikka. [Tel.] n. A disease among cattle in which the belly is swollen in consequence of eating green fodder. ఉంగిడిరోగము, అనగాపశువులకు వచ్చే ఒక వ్యాధి.

(p. 92) avakṣēpamu ava-kshēpamu. [Skt.] n. The act of discarding a thing after finding fault with it. తప్పు మాపి విసర్జించడము. Sarcasm, irony. సోల్లుంఠనము, ఆయములెత్తి ఆడడము, పొడుపుడు మాటలు. అవక్షిప్తము adj. Discarded as faulty, sarcastic, ironical, having an insinuation. తప్పుమోపి విసర్జింపబడినది, సోల్లుంఠనమైన.

(p. 92) avagatamu ava-gatamu. [Skt.] adj. Known, understood. తెలియబడినది, పొందబడినది.

(p. 95) avalōkiñcu ava-lōkinṭsu. [Skt. Root connected with the English word Look.] v. n. To look at. చూచు, వీక్షించు. అవలోకనము n. Sight, seeing. చూడడము. పురావలోకనము re-perusal. సింహావలోకనము retrospection. సింహావలోన పద్యము a verse in which every line looks back to the beginning. వాని ముఖావలోకనము చేయరాదు one should not look at his face. అవలోకితము adj. That which is seen. చూడబడినది.

(p. 104) asvādhīnamu a-svādhīnamu. [Skt.] adj. Dependent, not. free. అస్వతంత్రమైన. ఆ సొత్తు వానికి అస్వాధీనముగా నుండినది the property was not in his power.

(p. 106) ākampiñcu ā-kampinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To tremble, shake. మిక్కిలి కంపించు, వణకు. ఆకంపితము ā-kampitamu. adj. Well shaken. చక్కగా కదలింపబడినది.

(p. 106) ākarṣamu ākarshamu. [Skt.] n. Pulling, hauling: attracting, drawing. ఈడ్వడము. ఆకర్షకము ā-karshakamu n. That which attracts, a magnet. ఆకర్షణము ākarshaṇamu n. The act of drawing, or attracting. ఆకర్షణ మంత్రము a magic spell that has power to draw or attract, putting an enemy in our power. ఆకర్షణశక్తి n. The power of attraction or gravity. ఆకర్షించు ākarshinṭsu. To attract. ఆకర్షితము ā-karshitamu. adj. That which is attracted. ఆకర్షింపబడినది.

(p. 108) ākramiñcu ā-kraminṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To appropriate wrongfully, to encroach on, usurp. ఆక్రమణము ā-kramaṇamu. [Skt.] n. Surrounding, occupying, usurpation, filling (as smoke.) అక్రాంతిము ā-krāntamu. adj. Appropriated, seized. ఆక్రమింపబడినది. రాజాక్రాంతము seized by the king. ఆక్రాంతి ā-krānti. n. Filling, pervading, spreading through. (T. iv. 159.) వ్యాపకము.

(p. 112) āḍu āḍu. [Tel.] v. n. 1. To play, dance, work, act, do, move, ply. కాళ్లు ఆడకనిలిచె he stood stock-still, his feet did not stir. 2. To shake, totter, wag. 3. To beat, as the pulse. ధాతువు ఆడుచున్నది the pulse beats. 4. To speak, say. ఇట్లు కొందరు ఆడగా while some spoke thus. ఆడినది ఒకటి చేసినది ఒకటి he said one thing and did another. పోనాడు to cry Avaunt.! మున్నాడు to advance or come forward. ఆ పేరు నోట్లో ఆడుచున్నది I have the name at the tip of my tongue.

(p. 117) āmaḍa āmaḍa. [Tel.] n. A measure of distance equal to four coss: that is, either 8 or 10 miles. ఆడుగు ఆమడగా నుండినది every step was as wearying as a mile.

(p. 118) āmūlamu ā-mūlamu. [Skt.] adv. Radically, to the root. ఆమూలము adj. Entire, root and branch. ఆమూలాగ్రముగా (lit. from the root to the top.) Through and through, completely. ఆమూలాగ్రముగా పని చెడినది it is ruined root and branch.

(p. 121) ārabdhamu ārabdhamu. [Skt.] adj. That which is begun, ఆరంభింపబడినది.

(p. 122) ārōpiñcu ārōpinṭsu. [Skt.] v. t. To impute. లేనిదిమోపు. Imputing. ఆరోపణము. గుణారోపణము attributing any quality. ఇది నీ మీద ఆరోపింపబడినది this is attributed to you. ఆరోపితము āropitamu. adj. That which is imputed.
