(p. 273) kāya kāya. [Tel. from కాచు.] n. 1. A green unripe fruit. అరటికాయలు green plantains. 2. A nut, berry, pod, bulb, knob, head. 3. Anything round, as the head (తలకాయ) the bob of a plummet: a boss or round piece. 4. The word is used for a thing or article: as a piece at chess తుంటకాయ a wicked thing or creature. 5. A pimple: a wart. తవ్వడముచేత వాడిచేతులు కాయలుకాచినవి his hands are callous or hard with digging: he has a wart on his hand. 7. A bottle. రెండు కాయలను ఒకడే తీసుకొన్నాడు he alone drank two bottles. 8. As an affix it often leaves the sense unaltered: thus తల or తలకాయ the head. పిల్ల or పిల్లకాయ a child. గొంతు or గొంతుకాయ the throat. పుస్తె or పుస్తెకాయ a marriage token worn on the neck మొట్టు or మొట్టికాయ a blow or knock. ఎండ్రకాయ a crab. చెంపకాయ a slap on the cheek. Some fruits are called కాయ even though ripe, thus (from టెంకి shell) టెంకాయ a cocoanut. మిరపకాయ a chillie. ఉల్లికాయ an onion. కూరగాయలు or కాయగూరలు vegetables. కాయధాన్యములు kāya-dhānyamulu. n. Pulse: all sorts of grain contained in pods: as పెసలు, కందులు, సెనగలు, &c.

(p. 353) gaḍḍi gaḍḍi. [Tel.] n. Grass. కసవు. వరిగడ్డి rice straw. గడ్డిమొలతాడు a small cord made of the darbha or sacred grass worn around the waist by a young Brahmin in the ceremony of investing him with the sacred thread. కామంచిగడ్డి or కామాక్షికసవు the Citronella, or Andropogon Nardus. (Watts.) గడ్డితలకాయ gaḍḍi-tala-kāya. n. A hair-brained fellow, a soft-headed fool. గడ్డి తినిపించు gaḍḍi-tini-pinṭsu. v. n. To dupe. (lit. to make one eat grass) వానిని గడ్డితినిపించినారు they befooled him. గడ్డితిను gaḍḍi-tinu. v. n. To eat grass, to be cheated. ఈలాగున గడ్డితిన్నాడు thus was he befooled. గడ్డిపరక gaḍḍi-paraka. n. A blade of straw or grass గడ్డిపాము gaḍḍi-pāmu. n. A species of snake. గడ్డిపిట్ట gaḍḍi-piṭṭa. n. A kind of bird: there are three sorts, named ఎర్రగడ్డిపిట్ట, బిత్తరిగడ్డిపిట్ట and భూతగడ్డిపిట్ట. గడ్డిబొద్దున gaḍḍi-bodduva. n. A ring of grass rope to set a pot on. చుట్ట కుదురు.

(p. 515) talakāya tala-kāya. [Tel.] n. The head. The word కాయ (q. v.) is here a mere colloquial affix.

(p. 893) burra burra. [Tel.] n. A nutshell: the shell or nut of any fruit. Any small box as a snuff box, or case. The skull or head. తలపుర్రె. బుక్కాబుర్ర a pouneet box. ఇత్తడి బుర్ర a brass box. సొరబుర్ర the empty shell of a long gourd. సొరబుర్ర or కొలబుర్ర a swimming gourd or a float. కీచుబుర్రలతలగడ a creaking pillow. HD. i. 1668. దొంతిబుర్రలకాయ a cocoanut or other shell of a peculiar indented shape. adj. Large, పెద్ద బుర్రకత్తి burra-katti. n. A broad knife, a hatchet చెట్లకొమ్మలనరుకు మోటకత్తి. బుర్రకాయ burra-kāya. n. The head, the pate. తలకాయ. Also same as సొరబుర్ర. బుర్రజింక burra-jinka. n. A kind of antelope: the Open nosed deer. బుర్రముక్కుగల జింక. బుర్రటకొమ్ము burraṭa-kommu. n. A squirt. చిమ్మనగొట్టము.
