(p. 34) aḍapakatte or అడవక్తత్తియ aḍapa-katte. [Tel. from అడపము.] n. A woman in waiting, who carries her mistress's betel nut pouch and serves it out. తాంబూలము మడిచియిచ్చే బోనకత్తె. 'అడపకత్తియ యిచ్చు వీడెంబుగైకొనన్' Satyabha. iii. 143. అడపకాడు masculine of అడపకత్తె.

(p. 83) arca, arcana or అర్చనము archa. [Skt.] n. Worship, adoration. సపర్య, పూజ. This is of 8 kinds: ముగ్గు, సుగంధము, అక్షతలు, పుష్పము, ధూపము, దీపము, ఉపహారము, తాంబూలము. అర్చకత్వము archaka-tvamu. [Skt.] n. The office of an officiating priest. నంభితనము, పూజచేయుట. అర్చకుడు archa-kuḍu. n. An officiating priest. పూజచేయువాడు, నంబివాడు. అర్చించు archinṭsu. v. a. To worship, adore, offer, as flowers. పూజించు. అర్చితుడు n. One who is worshipped.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 509) tamma tamma. [Tel.] n. A quid. The chewings of the betel leaf which are of a red colour. నమలబడిన తాంబూలము. తమ్మతసుకు or తమ్మతొట్టి tamma-tasuka. n. A spittoon, తమ్మపడిగము. తమ్మకర tamma-kara. n. The red spittle caused by తమలపాకు.

(p. 520) tāmbūlamu tāmbūlamu. [Skt.] n. The betel-leaf and areca nut formed into a parcel, ready for use. వక్కాకు. This is also a phrase for a douceur. తాంబూలము పుచ్చుకొను to take betel (which is generally offered ceremoniously to a stranger as a mark of respect.) To take an oath: (because such a ceremony is gone through when an oath or solemn engagement is taken.) The tambulamu likewise is given as the final or termination of every meal, every transaction and every religious rite. Thus తాంబూలమిచ్చు and తాంబూలముపుచ్చుకొను is to ratify most solemnly, as a betrothal; to swear an oath. తాంబూలవల్లి or తాంబూలి the betel vine.

(p. 929) bhōgamu bhōgamu. [Skt.] n. Enjoyment, possession, అనుభవము. Happiness, సుఖము. Food, భోజనము. A snake's body or crest. పాముశరీరము, లేక, పాముపడగ అష్టభోగములు the eight kinds of enjoyment as Home గృహము, Bed శయ్య, Clothes వస్త్రము. Ornaments ఆభరణము, Woman's company స్త్రీ, Flowers పుష్పము, Scent గంధము and Betel తాంబూలము. ఏకభోగము undivided possession. ఏకభోగగ్రామము a village in the hands of one single person. పాలిభోగము separate possession. పాలిభోగగ్రామము a village whereof the land is the property of several persons, each of whom holds his land as a separate property and always retains the same fields. ఈ సంవత్సరము ఒక భోగము పండినది ఒక భోగము పోయినది one crop turned out well, one crop turned out ill. భోగగృహము bhōga gṛihamu. n. A bed room. పడకగది. భోగబంద bhōga-banda. n. A mortgage in which the article pledged or mortgaged may be converted to use, as land, houses, cattle, &c. the profits of which are to be appropriated by the lender or mortgagee in lieu of interest. భోగమంటపము bhōga-manṭapamu. n. An open hall or porch of a temple, in which festivals are celebrated. కళ్యాణ మంటపము. భోగవతి bhōga-vati. n. The name of the Capital of the Nagas or serpents, పాతాళము. శేషసర్పపట్టణము. The name of the infernal Ganges. పాతాళగంగ. A fashionable lady. భోగముగలది. భోగస్త్రీ bhōgā-stri. n. A kept woman, mistress or concubine, a prostitute. 'విచిత్రవీర్యుని భోగస్త్రీయందు విదురునింబుట్టించె.' Vish. vi. 425. భోగశిపత్రి bhōgāṣi-patri. n. A name of Garuda. 'భోగాశిపత్రితరస్ఫూర్త్యనుబావ.' Swa. v. 133. టీ పన్నగాశనపతత్రి. గరుత్మంతుడు. భోగి bhōgi. n. A happy man. భోగముగలవాడు. One who lives in splendour or luxury. అనుభవశాలియైనపురుషుడు. A serpent. సాము. The name given to the eves of some particular feasts. పండుగతొలినాడు. భోగించు bhōginṭsu. v. a. To enjoy, అనుభవించు. To be happy, సుఖించు, భోగించుట bhōginṭsuṭa. n. Enjoyment. Plu. భోగించుటలు. 'మనమానాడుమహావినోదముల ప్రేమల్ మీరభోగించుటల్ వినుము.' Radha. iii. 25. భోగిని bhōgini. n. A royal concubine. రాజు ఉంచిన బోగముది. An inferior wife of king. పట్టాభిషిక్తురాలుకాని రాజుభార్య. A female serpent. ఆడుపాము. భోగ్యత bhōgyata. n. Deliciousness, sweetness. దీనిభోగ్యత దేనికీలేదు nothing is more delicious than this. భోగ్యము bhōgyamu. n. Use, usufruet, enjoyment, or something given in pledge or on mortgage. భోగ్యపత్రము a mortgage bond, wherein the lender assumes the temporary use of the property mortgaged. adj. Enjoyable, fit to be enjoyed, delicious, agreeable as food. అనుభవింపదగిన. ఆ ప్రసాదము భోగ్యముగానుండలేదు that food was not agreeable. భోజనము bhōjanamu. n. Food, a repast or meal, ఆహారము. Eating, కడుపు. భోజనముచేయు to eat, to dine. భోజనకస్తూరి small oranges pickled. భోజరాజు or భోజుడు bhōja-rāju. n. The name of a king celebrated by Sanskrit poets as a bountiful patron. భోజ్యము bhōjyamu. adj. Edible, fit to eat, eatable. భుజింపదగిన n. Food, ఆహారము.
