(p. 12) antarlāpi antarlāpi. [Skt.] n. A kind of puzzle, riddle or question which contains the solution or answer in itself. విడికథవలె అతికఠినమైన ప్రశ్నలు ఉత్తరములుగా మండేటిది. e.g. క' శ్రీకాంతునిదినమెన్నఁడు రాకొమరునికెద్ది ప్రియము రథతిథియెన్నం డేకొలదినన్నమరుంగును ఏకాదశినాఁడు సప్తమేడేగడియల్. ' శ్లో' కాశంభుకాంతాకిముచంద్రకాంతం, కాంతాముఖంకింకురుతేభుజంగః, కశ్శ్రీపతిఃకావిషమాసమస్యా, గౌరీముఖంచుంబతివాసుదేవః. '

(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 25) aggi aggi. [Tadbhava form of Skt. agni] n. Fire. అగ్ని, నిప్పు, వాని ముఖమునకు అగ్గితాకినది he looks flushed or red in the face.

(p. 34) aḍamānamu adamānamu. [Tam.] A mortgage. కుదవ, తాకట్టు (not used in pure Tel. Districts.)

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 44) addike [Tel. from అద్దె rent.] Mortgage. తాకట్టు. అద్దికెభూమి mortgaged land. (Cuddapa.)

(p. 62) aparūpamu apa-rūpamu. [Skt.] adj. Ugly. deformed. Rare, scarce, uncommon. వికృతాకారము, వికారము, (వాడుకగా) వింతైన, అరుదైన.

(p. 69) abhighātamu abhi-ghātamu. [Skt.] n. Striking together, collision. తగలడము, తాకుడు, దెబ్బ, కొట్టుకోవడము, అదరడము, అభిఘాతజ్వరము fever caused by exhaustion.

(p. 71) abhivandanamu abhi-vandanamu. [Skt.] n. Sanitation, prostration. నమస్కారము,దండము, మ్రొక్కు. అభివాదనము abhivādanamu. [Skt.] n. Salutation, prostration, reverence. ప్రణామము, నమస్కారము గోత్ర నామములు చెప్పి పాదములు తాకునట్లు , అభివాదకుడు one who salutes by falling at one's feet.

(p. 81) aruntudamu aruntudamu. [Skt.] adj Sharp, corrosive. మర్మమును తాకునది. ఆరుఁతుదుడు, అనగా మర్మపీడకుడు.

(p. 104) aspṛśyamu a-spriṣyamu. [Skt.] adj. Not to be touched, intangible. తాకగూడని.

(p. 118) āyakamu āyakamu. [Tel.] n. Mortgage. తాకట్టు, కుదువ.

(p. 150) ucci uchchi. [Tel.] n. The crown or top of the head. మాడ, బ్రహ్మరంధ్రము. దానికి ఉచ్చి తాకినది she is suffering from the evil (imagined to be) caused by letting the nipple touch the top of her child's head.

(p. 172) usuru usuru [Tel.] n. Breath, life; strength, vigour, grief; a sigh, affliction, plague, hardship, evil result; retribution or result. వాని ఉసురు నీకు తగులును his trouble will come upon you. ఆడదాని ఉసురు తగలకపోదు the sigh of a woman will not fail to bring trouble (to him who caused her grief). వారి ఉసురు తాకి వాడు చెడిపోవును their sorrows shall be visited on his head. ఉసురుపోసికొను or ఉసురుపుచ్చుకొను usuru-pōsi-konu. v. a. To cause sighs. To afflict. నా ఉసురు ఏల పోసుకొంటావు why do you torment me thus? ఇది చేసినందు ప్రజల యొక్క ఉసురు పోసుకొనెను this called down the curses of the people. ఉసురుతో కూడా alive.

(p. 184) eḍagillu or ఎడగిలియుండు eḍa-gillu. [Tel.] v. n. To stand out of the way, stand aside, get out of the way ఒత్తిగిల్లు. ఎడజేయు eḍa-jēyu. v. n. To do away with, abolish. ఎడతాకు eḍa-tāku. v. t. To meet, to unite. ఎడతీయు eḍa-tīyu. v. a. To remove or abstract. తొలగించు. ఎడతెగు eḍa-tegu. v. n. To break off, separate. ఎడతెగకుండ incessantly, without interval. ఎడతెరపి eḍa-terapi. n. Interval వ్యవధానము.
