(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 319) koppu koppu. [Tel.] n. The chignon or tuft in which a Hindu female folds her tresses. కేశబంధము. కొప్పు or కొప్పు వాసము the crest of a roof. The tip or end of a bow వింటికొన. తిరుపతి కొప్పులు bald heads so used because people have their heads shaved when they visit Tirupati. కొప్పుగువ్వ koppu-guvva. n. The Indian hoopoe.

(p. 530) tiru tiru. [A Tamil word for Skt. శ్రీ.] adj. Blessed or holy. (This is used in a variety of ways by Vaishṇavites.) తిరుకాపు tiru-kāpu. n. Adorning the god. దేవతనలంకరించుట. తిరుకొలను a sacred tank, పుష్కరిణి. తిరుచూర్ణము the sacred powder used to mark the forehead by the Vaishṇavites, శ్రీచూర్ణము, తిరునామము, వైష్ణవబొట్టు. తిరుమణి [మణి = మన్ను] the sacred earth, a kind of white clay used in making the sectarian mark (నామము). తిరుపగూడ a small basket in which the తిరుమణి and other things are kept. తిరుపతి tiru-pati. n. A town, Tripati తిరుమల. తిరుమజ్జినము tiru-majjanamu. n. The sacred bath given to an idol. దేవతాభిషేకము. తిరుమన్ను same as తిరుమణి. తిరుమాళిగ tiru-māḷiga. n. A Vaishṇavite's word for a house (వైష్ణవపరిభాష యందు) గృహము.

(p. 906) boṭṭu boṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A drop. A sectarian mark on the forehead, white, yellow, black or scarlet, long or round. A gold spangle or patch in general. The gold piece attached to the marriage cord. (మంగళసూత్రము.) A three-pie piece. The grammatical sunna or circlet, representing N. or M. నిలువుబొట్టు or సోగబొట్టు the upright line or streak in the forehead which denotes the Vaishṇava sect. అడ్డబొట్టు the cross mark which denotes the Saivites. తాళిబొట్టు the sign of marriage, being a bit of gold tied on the bride's throat. బొట్టుకట్టు to tie the తాలిబొట్టు,i.e., to marry. గట్టిబొట్టు full sunna. నేతిబొట్టు a little ghee. 'తిరుపతి కొప్పులమదముగదీర్చిన బూడిదెబొట్టు, మంచిదేర్పరచినమించునట్టి రుదురాక్కల పేరులు.' S. iii. 99. ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా సరిగా బొట్టు పెట్టినట్టు చిక్కుచున్నది wherever it is, he finds it in a moment. బొట్టుదారము boṭṭu-dāramu. n. The string round the neck from which the tāli is suspended, మంగళసూత్రము.

(p. 1015) mūḍu mūḍu. [Tel.] adj. Pron. or n. Three. infl. మూటి as ఆమాటికి to the three. మూట mūṭa. n. ablative. Thirdly, at the third. మూటియందు, మూడవదానియందు. plural మూళ్లు, as పదిమూళ్లు ten times three. మూడు ఎత్తులుగాచేసి laying the garland in three festoons. G. xi. 49. మూడు సరములుగాచేసి. ముక్కాక muk-kāka. (మూడు + కాలు.) n. Three quarters. ముప్పాతిక. Three legs, మూడుకాళ్లు. ముక్కొటిక muk-koṭika. (మూడు + కొటిక.) n. Three cities, త్రిపురములు. ముక్కోటి ఏకాదశి muk-kōṭi-ēkā. n. (p. 1257) śēṣuḍu or ఆదిశేషుడు ṣēshuḍu. [Skt.] n. The name of the great dragon, the king of serpents, వెయ్యితలలసర్పము, అనంతుడు. శేషవాహనము ṣēsha-vāhanamu. n. A serpent throne used for conveying the image of Vishnu. సర్పాకారముగా నుండే వాహనము. శేషశయనుడు ṣēsha-ṣayanuḍu. n. Lit. one who has Sesha for his bed; an epithet of Vishṇu. శేషాచలము or శేషాద్రి ṣēsh-āchalamu. n. A name of Tirupati. తిరుపతికొండ.
