(p. 20) akkara akkara. [Tel.] n. Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.

(p. 43) adāparucu or అదచేయు adā-paruṣsu. [H.] v. t. To perform, pay, discharge. ఆచరించు, తీర్చు, చెల్లించు.

(p. 106) ākali ākali. [Tel.] n. Hunger, appetite. Eagerness. క్షుత్తు. G: ఆకటి; or ఆకంటి D. ఆకటికి; L. ఆకట. ఆకలిగొన్నాడు he had an appetite, he was hungry. ఆకలియెత్తు, or పెట్టు. To be hungry. ఆకలితీర్చు To appease or satisfy hunger. వానికి ఆకలి కాలేదా is he not hungry? See ఆకొను.

(p. 145) īratāra īra-tāra. [Tel.] n. Disorder. తారుమారు. adj. Disordered, confused. తారుమారైన. Here and there, this way and that. తీర్చగూడనిది, ఈగరానిది. హెచ్చుతగ్గులు, ఈరతారలు more or less: some. 'అపుడు సమ్మెటకోలల నంకుశముల జేరుకోలలదీటుల నీరతారయదలుపుల వాహనంబులు చెదరపరచె. '

(p. 178) ṛṇamu ṛiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Debt, obligation. A claim, a title or lien. ఇంతకున్ను ఇక్కడి నీళ్ల ఋణము ఎన్ని రోజులు ప్రాప్తి ఉన్నదో besides I know not how much longer it is my fate to dwell here. ఋణపడు ṛiṇa-paḍu. v. n. To get into debt. ఋణముచేయు ṛiṇamu-chēyu. v. a. To contract a debt, to borrow. ఋణముతీర్చు ṛiṇamu-tīrṭsu. To discharge a debt. ఋణత్రయము the three kinds of obligation, viz., దేవఋణము, ఋషిఋణము and పితృఋణము. ఋణవిముక్తుడు ṛiṇa-vimuktuḍu. n. One who is free from debt. ఋణస్థుడు. or ఋణి or ఋణికుడు ṛiṇasthuḍu. n. A debtor. ఋణార్ణము ṛiṇārṇamu. n. A debt contracted to pay off another debt. అప్పు తీర్చుటకై చేసిన అప్పు.

(p. 219) ōru ōru. [Tel. from హోరు] n. Sound, noise. Red colour applied to the walls of a house on festive occasions. ఇంటిగోడయడు గనను మూలలను వేసే ఎర్రమంటిపట్టె. ఓరు adj. Large. ఓరుగాలి a great or noisy wind మిక్కిలి బలముగల గాలి. ఓరుతీయు ōru-tīyu. v. i. To mark red streaks on the walls and corners of a house. గోడలమీదను మూలలను ఎర్రమంటితో పట్టెలు తీర్చు.

(p. 308) kelasa or కెలసము kelasa. [Tel. and Kan.] n. Business , work. పని, అక్కర. 'చుట్టమనై భుజాబలముసొంపున నీకెలసంబుతీర్చెదన్.' M. ii i. v. 241.

(p. 439) cakkaṭi ṭsakkaṭi. [Tel.] n. A place, స్థానము: a direction, దిక్కు: neighbourhood; business కార్యము. Fitness, suitability. ఆర్జనము, న్యాయము. చక్కట్లుదిద్దు to settle a matter తీర్పుతీర్చు. అతనిచక్కటికి to him, అతనివద్దకు.

(p. 430) ceyi, cēyi or చెయ్యి cheyi. [Tel.] n. A hand The arm. A sleeve. An elephant's trunk. Five (in counting, as three hands, i.e., fifteen.) అరచెయ్యి or లోచెయ్యి the palm of the hand. మీదిచెయ్యి or మీజెయి the back of the hand. ముంజెయ్యి the wrist. మోచెయ్యి the elbow. దండచెయ్యి the upper arm. చెయిదము, చెయిది or చెయ్దు cheyidamu. [Tel. from చేయు.] n. An act, action, doing. కృత్యము, చేష్ట. 'చేతకానిచెయిదములు చేయక.' M. XII. ii. 415. చెయిపట్టు cheyi-paṭṭu. v. n. To adopt, protect, take by the hand. To seize or ravish a woman. To marry. To foster. చెయ్యిన్రాలలలు or చేవ్రాలు cheyi-vrālu. n. Handwriting, a signature. వారందరు ఒక చెయ్యిగానున్నారు they are all hand in hand, hand and glove with each other. ఆ పని చెయ్యికూడివచ్చినది the business turned out well. చేతికిందిమనిషి a servant, a slave. చేతిపని hand-work. చేతిసొమ్ము money in hand, cash. అతని చేతివాడు one of his creatures or hangers on. చెయ్యివెల sale for ready money. రొక్కపు వెల. చెయ్యి సాగినంతలో when your hand is in, when you have the opportunity. In some phrases the word may be left untranslated: as నా చేతికిచ్చెను he gave it to me; lit. to my hand చెయికావలి means a supply of rice, &c., provided for dinner at a future stage in a journey. చెయ్యికావలికి నాలుగు రూపాయలు ఎత్తిపెట్టుకొన్నాడు he laid up something to meet contingencies. కరిడిచెయ్యి అద్దము like a looking glass in the hand of a bear. చేతకాని idle, paltry, incapable. In some compounds it means extra, as చెయ్యికావలి or చెయ్యిజాగ్రత a reserve, or extra ground; చెయ్యితడి ఆరకముందు తీర్చివెయ్యి do it before your hand cools. చెయ్యియీటె a small spear. తాళపుచెయ్యి a key. నీచేతినుంచి తగులుతుంది, or, చెయ్యికరుచును you will have to lay out some money. చెయ్యిచేసికొను to handle, interfere, meddle with, to use the hand: to take the law into one's own hands and beat. చెయ్యివిడుచు to abandon, desert, give over (a person.) చెయ్యిచూచు to feel the pulse. చెయ్యితిరిగిన cheyyi-tirigina. adj. Experienced, expert, handy. చెయువు or చెయ్వు cheyuvu. n. An act, an action.

(p. 535) tīru tīru. [Tel.] v. n. To end, stop, cease, elapse. To be finished, ended, complete, or ready. To be paid, delivered, discharged, avenged. To be qualified, accomplished, finished, adorned, trim, decked. To be gratified, satiated, wreaked (as passion;) to be assuaged or allayed, to go off. ముగియు, చిక్కబడు. తనివితీర to the full; so as to satisfy one's desires. తీరలేదు it came to nothing, it was ineffectual. కోరికతీసి having gained his end. ఇది నాచేత తీరదు this is out of my power. నాకు తీరీతీరక ఉన్నది I am hardly at leisure. తీరిపోవు to die. To be practicable, or possible. అక్కడికి రాతీరదు I cannot come there, I have not leisure to come. రాకుంటే తీరదు (you) must positively come. వెళ్లక తీరదు I cannot help going. తీరినగుండెగా నున్నాడు he is quite hackneyed. తీరా tirā. (Root in A of తీరు, with the intensive affix ఆ) adv. Ultimately, at last; fairly; just, merely, in short, simply. తీరా మధ్యాహ్నమయ్యేటప్పటికి when it was high noon. ఆ గోడ తీటా పడ్డది the wall actually fell down. తూరా పండుకొనేటప్పటికి when he was fairly asleep. ఆ సంగతి తీరా బయటపడేటప్పటికి when the matter at last became known. తీరా చెల్లించెను he paid it in full. తీరిక or తీరికె tīrika. n. Leisure. పనిలేక యూరకుండుట. తీరికచిక్కిన having no leisure. Adorning, trimming, decoration. దిద్దడము. తీరిన tīrina adj. Full. finished, accomplished, cured, settled. తీరు. n. Manner, way, mode, fashion, style, arrangement, విధము. Beauty చక్కన. వాడు బకతీరుమనిడషి he is an odd man. వాడుబకతీరుగానున్నాడు ఒకతీరుగానున్నాడు he is but so and so, he is not well, he is not at ease. ఈ తీరు thus. తీరుతప్పి ఉన్నాడు it is all over with him. తీరుగా tirugā. adv. Properly, duly, aright. దాని ముక్కుకండ్లు తీరుగానున్నవి her nose and eyes are pretty. తీరుగడ or తీరుదల tīru-gaḍa. n. Ending. ముగియుట. తీరుపు or తీర్పు tīrupu. n. End, finishing. (p. 597) dīmamu, dīmu or దీం dīmamu. [Tel.] n. A trained bird, a decoy bird. సాకితీర్చిన పిట్ట. A snare, decoy or trap (for birds, elephants, &c.) A house, ఇల్లు.

(p. 686) paṅga panga. [Tel.] n. A fork, as the forked branch of a tree. పంగగా panga-gā. (adv.) Astride, with the legs apart. పంగటి pangaṭi. adj. Stretching out like the prongs of a fork. 'అనుకు వెల్లడిగందమున నాభి నుండి మూపులదాక పంగటి పూతపూతి.' Vaija. iv. 57. పంగటించు panga-tinṭsu. v. n. To straddle or open the legs far apart; to sprawl. పంగటికాళ్లవాడు pangaṭi-kālla-vāḍu. n. A bandy-legged man. దొడ్డికాళ్లు గలవాడు. పంగనామము a fork-like mark worn on the forehead by the Vaishnavaites, పడుమ ఎడము గల్పు పంగివలె తీర్చిన తిరుమణి, as distinguished from పంగనామము, a mark which has no broad fork like branches. పంగలుగుంజ a forked post such as rafters rest on. పంగలకర్ర a forked stick. మూడుపంగలయీటె a trident shaped spear.

(p. 699) paṭṭe or పట్టియ paṭṭe. [Tel.] n. A spar of wood. పలక. A piece of wood that forms the frame of a cot. Hair left on the head at the time of tonsure. A fold in a turban or dress. A tape. A stripe or streak of paint, రేఖ. A facet or side of a diamond, పక్క. A gold hand or fillet worn on the forehead, at the time of one's coronation, పట్టము. Ceiling, మిద్దె యిండ్లమీద పరిచే మ్రాను మొదలగునది. A brush, కుంచె. తాటిపట్టె a palmyra rafter. నవారు పట్టె a broad tape. పట్టెమంచము a cot the bottom of which is woven with broad tape. పట్టెతీయు to use the harrow. నున్నపుపట్టె a streak of chunam. పట్టెలు తీర్చినకెంపు a ruby cut into facets. ద్వార బంధువుపట్టె the lintel or top of a door. టంగుపట్టె a girth. యోగపట్టె a hermit's girdle. ఒకపట్టెనేల a piece of land. నీరుపారేపట్టె a canal or water course. పట్టెమారుపు check-colors in a cloth. వస్త్రములోని ఒకవిధమైన చిత్రవర్ణము. పట్టె వర్ధనము paṭṭe-vardhanamu. n. A broad caste-mark worn in the forehead, వెడల్పుగా నుండుబొట్టు.

(p. 708) pani pani. [Tel.] n. Work, a task. కర్మము. Business, employment, వ్యాపారము. Workmenship, శిల్పము. ఈ కట్టడమునందు మంచిపని చేసియున్నారు there is good workmanship in this building. An affair, act, matter. Service, utility, purpose, object, intention, design. ప్రయోజనము. An order, duty, నియోగము. పనిమీద ఉన్నాడు he is busy. మంచిపని very well, well, good. మంచిపనిచేసినావు you did well or right. అతని పనిచూస్తున్నాను I am engaged in his service: I am acting for him. అతనిపని తీర్చినారు they settled his business, or they killed him. ఇక్కడ నీకేమిపని what business have you here? This word is sometimes omitted in translating; as in నీపనిపట్టిస్తాను I will punish you. ఇంతపనికి నన్నేల వెంటబెట్టుకొనివచ్చినావు why have you brought me for such a trifle or pretence? పనికిమాలి (or) పనిచెడి కూర్చున్నాడు he is sitting idle. వారు వ్యాధిచేత పనిచెడిరి they became infirm through illness. వానితో విరోధము పనికిరాదు he will not stand quarrelling. దాన్ని సంపాదించడము ఎంతపని it is no great matter to get it. నాపని చెరిపినారు they spoiled my work. పనిచెరువుకథలు idle stories. పనికి వచ్చే useful. పనికివచ్చే పిల్లకాయ a promising boy. పనికిరాని or పనికిమాలి useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు useless. అక్కడికి నీవు ఏపనిమీద పోయినావు about what business did you go there? నీపనిని నీవు చూచుకొనుము mind your own business. అక్కడికి పోవలసినపనిలేదు there is no need of going there. ఇప్పట్లో వానిపని యిట్లు ఉన్నది he is now in this state. అట్లు చెప్ప పని లేదు there is no need of saying so. పనిగొను pani-gonu. v. a. To undertake a work, to engage in a business. పూనుకొను. To employ, నియోగించు. 'పనిగొనవుతెలియగ బరికించి చూచిన.' Vēma. పనితనము pani-ta-namu. n. Workmanship, elegance. పనితనముగల ఒక మంచము a handsome bed. పనితొడవులు pani-toḍarulu. n. Worked or embossed jewels. పనిపడు or పనివడు pani-paḍu. v. n. To busy oneself with. to engage in, పూనుకొను. To concern oneself with, అక్కరపడు. పనివడి or పనిపడి pani-paḍi. adv. Intentionally. కావలెనని, ప్రయత్నపూర్వకముగా. 'పరులను పనిపడి దూషించెనేని పాపము వచ్చున్.' V. P. iv. 249. పనివాటులు jobs, work. పనిముట్టు or పనిమటము pani-muṭṭu. n. An instrument, tool, impelement. కొరముట్టు, ఉపకరణము. 'పనిమటములుగొంచు పయనమైరండు.' Pal. 314. పనివంచు, పని పంచు or పనిగొను pani-vanṭsu. v. a. To command. నియోగించు. పనివాడు pani-vāḍu. n. A servant: a good workman. పనివిను pani-vinu. v. n. To obtain permission, to take leave. To proceed, to go or come. 'దేవర కీర్తి వెక్కసంబుగ జెప్పవిని చూడగోరి, పనివిని నేను మాభాగ్యంబుకతన.' H.D.i. 847.
