(p. 25) agu agu. [Tel.] (commongly written అవు), v. To be, to become, to prove to be. The present p|| is అగుచు, or అవుచు as అగుచున్నాడు or అవుచున్నాడు he is becoming. మిక్కిలి సిరి అగును much fortune will result. The past p|| is అయి as దొంగ అయి turned a rogue, become a thief. The root in A of అగు is కా as అట్లా కారాదు it cannot happen so. Aorist p|| అగు, అగునట్టి, అయ్యే, అయ్యెడి as క్రూరుడగు cruel. శాలివాహనశక వర్షంబులు 1466 అగునట్టి క్రోధి సంవత్సర కార్తీకశుద్ధ 5 శనివారము Saturday the 5th of the bright fortnight of the month Kārtika in the year Krodhi 'which is' the year 1466 (of the Salivahana æra.) ఇది దొంగతనము అయ్యేపనిగనుక as this is a matter in which a man might prove a rogue. To be, to become, as కాకి కోకిలయగునె can a crow become a cuckoo? వాడు ఏమయినాడు what has become of him? దొంగ అయినాడు he proved to be a thief. వాడు నేరస్థుడైనాడు he was found guilty. ఆ పని అవును కాకపోవును that undertaking may or may not be accomplished. వానికి ఆకలి అవుతున్నది he is hungry. ఇట్లు రాత్రియగుట as it was now night. బాలుడగుట as he is but a child. 2. To be made, to be finished, to be spent or expended, to elapse, as పని శీఘ్రముగా కావలెను the work must be done soon. వివాహమగుము marry her. ఆ పెండ్లి అయినది the marriage took place. భోజనమయినది dinner is over. రాజదర్పనమయినది I got a sight of the king. అయినదాన్ని చూపు shew what has been done. ఆ పని అయినది the work is over, it is done. కావచ్చినది it is nearly done. రూకలు అయిపోయినది the money is expended. సంవత్సరము అయినది a year has passed. నెల అవుతున్నది it is about a month since. అర్థమయినదా do you understand it? సాకు భావముకాతేదు I do not understand it. భావముయనది I understand it. స్నానము కావించు to bathe, or to cause to bathe. తీర్పుకాలేదు no decision has been given. మ్రుచ్చిలితెచ్చుట మగతనం బగునె is it a manly thing to steal? 3. To be proper or fit, to be agreeable, as ఇచ్చట నుండనగునే మనకు is it fit for us to remain here? కాని పని an improper or unbecoming act. అట్లా చేయనవునా is it right to do so? పగలు కాచినపాలు ఆ రాత్రికి అవును milk boiled the same day is fit for use that night. అతనికీ నాకు కానందున as we are not on good terms. అయినవాండ్లున్ను కానివాండ్లున్ను friends and enemies. 4. To grow, as ఈ తోటలో ఏమి అవుతవి what is grown in this garden? ఇక్కడ వరి కఅదు rice does not grow here. 5. (Governing a dative) To stand in relation, as వాడు నీకేమవుతాడు how is he related to you? నాకు కావలసినవారు my relations. వానికి మేము ఏమీకాము we are in no way related to him. 6. Added to some nouns it gives them a verbal significance, as వారు ఎప్పుడు ప్రయాణమవుతారు when will they start or set out? విభాగాలు అయి వేరింటి కాపురము చేస్తున్నారు they seperated and live apart.

(p. 168) uriyu uriyu. [Tel.] v. a. To sweat or leak. ఉప్పురిసిన గోడ a wall out of which salt oozes. ఇల్లు ఉరుస్తున్నది the house leaks. ఈ ఊరు ఉప్పురిసినందున as the land of that village turned saltish. Also, to move చలించు. To turn grey, as hair నెరయు. To ripen పక్వమగు. To pine away పరితపించు. ఉరుపు urupu. n. Leaking, soaking through. ఉరియుట.

(p. 267) kācu kāṭsu. [Tel. from కాగు.] v. n. To be hot; to shine, as the sun or moon. To be hot as fever. To wait, dangle in attendence. నాకు జ్వరముకాచినది I had the fever on me. కొంచెము జ్వరముకాస్తున్నది there is a little fever. చలికాచుకొనుట to bask or sit by the fireside, or to warm oneself. ఎండకాస్తున్నది there is sunshine. ఆ చింతచెట్టు కాయడములేదు that tamarind tree does not bear. To wait for, attend on నాకొరకు కాచుకొన్నాడు he is waiting for me. అతని వద్ద మూడు ఏండ్లు కాచుకొని యుంటిని I was in attendance on his for three years. కాచు v. a. To boil; to heat, to warm. To bear fruit. కాగజేయు. ఆ ఊరంతా కాచి వడపోసినాడు lit. he has boiled and strained off the town, i.e., he has made himself master of the whole town. తేనీళ్లుకాచు to make tea. బెల్లము కాచడము sugar making. రాత్రి అంతా వారికి కాచడము కట్టడముతో సరిపోయినది the whole night was passed in fomenting and binding up the limbs.

(p. 274) kāyu kāyu. [Tel.] v. n. To shine as the sun or moon. ఇప్పుడు ఎండ కాస్తున్నది there is sunshine now. వెన్నెలకాస్తున్నది there is moonlight. కాయు (another form of కాచు.) v. a. To tend cattle. To spare or acquit. నేను ఇంతపని చేసి ఉంటే నన్ను కాయవద్దు if I have done this, spare me not.

(p. 346) gaṇṭa ganṭa. [Tel.] n. A stub, a stump of corn stalks. గడ్డిదుబ్బు. పైరు బాగా గంట కట్టుకొనివస్తున్నది the crop thrives well. గంటపిట్ట ganṭa-piṭṭa. n. The Grass Warbler, Chactornis locustelloides. (F.B.I.)

(p. 360) galaba or గలభ galaba. [H.] n. Confusion. కలత. గలబరించు or గలభరించు or గలతరించు or గలతరించు galaba-rinṭsu. v. n. To grumble. కడుపు గలబరిస్తున్నది the belly grumbles. To confuse గందరగోళపెట్టు.

(p. 362) gā gā. [Tel.] n. (an adverbial affix being the infinitive కా of అగు) తండ్రిగా ఉండినాడు he was like a father to me దొరగా ఉండెను. he was as master, or he was master. మూడుగా తెలుస్తున్నది it looks like three. గమిగా వచ్చినారు they came in a crowd. నల్లగానున్నది it is black; Added to verbs. It means when, while, as or since. ఈ పని కాగానే as soon as ever this is finished. వాడు చేరగా on his arrival, when he arrived. మీరు ఆ పనిని చేయుచుండగా while you are doing that work.

(p. 377) guppu guppu. [Tel.] v. n. To be diffused, or spread, as a smell. 'ఇక్షుదండము ప్రేమ భక్షింపభక్షింప, చప్పనేలగురుచుల్ గుప్పుగాక.' Kalah. § 35. 'ధూపంబువాసనగుప్పన్.' T. ii. 84. గుప్పు v. a. To pound or beat. To throw, fling or toss. గందపొడిగుప్పిరి they threw powder in handfuls. 'అతనుడునృపతిగుప్పుచున్నాడు పువ్వుకోలలను' L. X. 98. To place ఉంచు. To sprinkle చల్లు. To throw as a missile or an arrow విసిరివేయు, ప్రయోగించు. To thrust as a calf does at the udder పొదగును పొడుచు. గుప్పు n. A blow, a dash. గుప్పన guppana. adv. Sweetly, fragrantly. (గుప్పు+అనునట్లు) గుప్పనమేనితావి వగగల్కగ కమ్మనికందిపప్పు మాపప్పన మీకురాదు.' Balaram. Cha. 135. గుప్పున guppuna. adv. Quickly, hastily. Clearly. గుప్పున కనిపిస్తున్నది it is seen clearly or boldly.

(p. 377) gubaguba or గుభగుభ gubaguba. [Tel.] n. Hubbub. గుబగుబలు లేనికూటమి meeting without tumult. అక్కడ ఏమి గుబగుబలు what is the uproar? వారేమో గుబగుబలాడుచున్నారు there is some stir among them. adv. Tumultuously: with indistinct accents. పిల్లకాయలు గుబగుబపరుగెత్తిరి the boys ran along noisily. 'గుబగుబమని పల్కు కోకిలపల్కులు, విని యివి నేర్తువా యనుచు నవ్వు.' T. ii. 97. సముద్రము గుబగుబలాడుచున్నది the sea roars aloud. ఊరంతా గుబగుబలాడు తున్నది all the village is up, in a stir, or in a ferment. గుబాటున gubāṭuna. adv. All at once, in a moment.బాటు౛డివానలు sudden showers. గుబాదెబ gubā-deba. adv. Bang! slapdash. 'గుబాదెబ వీధుల వెంటజంటలై' H. v. 191. వాణ్ని గుబాదెబగుద్దినారు they beat him thoroughly. గుబాలు or గుబేలు gubālu. n. A bang! a loud sound. గుబాలను to bang, to make a noise. గుబాలున or గుభాలున all at once. Bang! crashingly. నీళ్లలో బాలునదుమికినాడు he leapt slapdash into the water. గుబాలుమన్న ధ్వనివింటిని I heard an explosion or a bang. గుబాళించు gubā-ḷ-inṭsu. v. n. To be emitted or burst forth, as scent. 'కమ్మతావిగుబాళించు తమ్మికొలను' a pond perfumed with lilies. Vijaya. i. 162.

(p. 415) cidacida chida-chida. [Tel.] n. Damp. ఆ నేల చిదచిదలాడుతున్నది that ground is moist.

(p. 426) ceṇḍu chenḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To rise, or spread, as a scent. v. a. To cut to pieces, mangle, destroy, break, ruin. ఖండించు. ఈయెండ చెండుతున్నది this sunshine is scorchingly hot. n. A cluster or ball or flowers. పూబంతి. A ball to play with. బంతి. చెండాడు chenḍ-āḍu. (చెండి+ఆడు.) v. a. To cut up into pieces. ఖండించు. To destroy, slay, To play at ball (చెండు ఆడు). చెండాట chenḍāta. n. A game at ball. చెండుగోరింపులు chenḍu-gōrimpulu. n. Playing at ball. చెండుకొనితిను to devour or plunder. చెండుమల్లె chenḍumalle. n. The marigold. బంతిపువ్వు, చేమంతి. చెండుబెండాడు chenḍu-benḍ-āḍu. v. t. To cut to pieces. చెండిపోతు or చండిపోతు chenḍi-pōtu. n. A wretch.

(p. 467) jīru jīru. [Tel.] v. n. To hand down, dangle, or trail on the ground. జీరాడు, జీరుకాడు or జీరులాడు jīrāḍu. [Tel. జీరి+ఆడు.] v. n. To be carried on నడచు. సరితూగు to be equal in weight, to rival in excellence. పచ్చిమిరపకాయలకన్న ఎండుమిరపకాయలు నిండా తూగును dried chillies weigh heavier than the green ones. ఆ రూకలు తూగిరాక as he could not obtain payment. పనితూగకపోయె the work was not carried through. n. Nodding: moving backwards and forwards; equipoise. ఊగుట. Weight. బరువు. Drowsiness, sleepiness. కూరుకుపాటు. పదితూగుల రవలు ten carats weight of diamonds. నాకు తూగువస్తున్నది I am drowsy. ఠూగించు tūginṭsu. v. a. To accomplish, to carry through. తూగుముంచము or తూగుటుయ్యెల tūgu-manṭsamu. n. A swinging cot, a cradle, ఉయ్యాలమంచము. తూగువాడు or తూగుడు the animal called a sloth.

(p. 631) naḍucu or నడచు naḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To walk, go, move, proceed. To happen, occur, pass, take place. To behave, conduct oneself, ప్రవర్తించు. To take effect, as an order. To live, continue, last. To descend, as an estate. To beat, as applied to the pulse. To act (as a father, servant, &c.) వారికిందనడిచేభూమి the field they hold or enjoy. నడిచేనెల the current month, వానికిని మాకును నడిచిన జాబులు the letters that passed between us. నడిచినజగడము the dispute that took place. శ్లోకము నడవవద్దా surely the verse ought to flow easily. ఆ ఉత్సవము నడుస్తున్నదా is the feast still kept up? నడుపు or నడపు naḍupu. v. a. To make one walk, make a thing proceed. To manage, conduct. To navigate, steer a vessel. To undertake or govern. వ్యాయము నడుపు to execute justice. n. Walk, pace, step, gait. Walking, గమనము.
