(p. 544) tṛṇamu tṛiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Grass, reeds. Corn. A straw, a blade of grass, a reed. A mere trifle. తృణిగ్రాహి tṛiṇa-grāhi. Lit: 'drawing straws,' as amber. A sapphire, నీలము, మరకతము. తృణజలూకము tṛiṇa-jalūkamu. n. The leaping leech, that jumps along, fixing its head and tail alternately. భాగ. 10. స్కం. పూ. తృణజలూకిన్యాయము is an expression like 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush,' i.e., Securing one object before trying for another. తృణత tṛiṇata. n. Grassiness. తృణబావము. A bow, ధనస్సు. మరుత్తృణత Indra's bow, i.e., a rainbow. ఇంద్రధనుస్సు A. v. 154. తృణద్రుమము tṛiṇa-drumamu. n. The 'grass-bearing tree,' i.e., a tree belonging to the grass family. తృణధ్వజము tṛiṇa-dhvajamu. n. A bamboo, వెదురు. తృణప్రాయము tṛiṇa-prāyamu. adj. Worth a straw, worthless, contemptible. తృణరాజము the palmyra or the cocoanut tree. తృణశూన్యము tṛiṇa-ṣūnyamu. adj. Having no grass. తృణములేనిది. n. The Jasmine. మల్లె. తృణీకరించు tṛiṇī-karinṭsu. v. a. To look upon (a thing) as grass. To contemn, despise, slight, make light of తృణముగా వెంచు, అలక్ష్యముచేయు. తృణీకారము tṛiṇī-kāramu. n. Contempt, disregard.

(p. 847) prāyamu prāyamu. [Skt.] n. Age, time of life, జీవితకాలము, ఈడు, వయస్సు. Puberty, youth, prime, bloom. యౌవనము. లేప్రాయము fresh age. ప్రాయపువాడు a young man. ప్రాయపుది a young woman. A preparation for dying దేహత్యాగార్థివ్రతము, ప్రాయోపదేశము. Death, చావు. Exceeding much, a multitude, సమూహము, బాహుళ్యము. adj. (used in composition.) like, resembling, సమానము. పశుప్రాయుడు a brutish man. మృతప్రాయుడు one who is as good as dead. అది వానికి తృణప్రాయము he values it no more than a straw వానికి అబద్ధము తీర్థప్రాయము telling lies is all his delight. ప్రాయశః prāyaṣah adv. Frequently, for the most part. బహుశా. ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము prāyaṣ -chittamu. n. Expiation, propitiation, penance, absolution, recompense, retribution, పాపరిహారముకొరకు చేయుకర్మము. జీవప్రాయశ్చిత్తము certain expiatory ceremonies performed over a dying person. తనకొమారునికి ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము చేయించినాడు he had his son purified by expiatory rites. ప్రాయోపవేశము or ప్రాణాచారము prāy-ōpavēṣamu. n. Fasting in order to die, starving to death voluntarily. పస్తుపడియుండి ప్రాణమును విడిచిపెట్టడమనేవ్రతము. ప్రాయోపవేశముచేయు or ప్రాణాచారముచేయు prāy-opavēṣamu-chēyu v. n. To meet death by fasting in fulfilment of a vow.

(p. 1337) suṅku sunku. [Tel.] n. A corn blossom: the yellow flower that comes on each grain in an ear or head of corn, కంకిలోని గింజ పాలుపట్టక ముందు ప్రతిగింజమీద పచ్చగానుండేపువ్వు. Grain ceremoniously thrown over a married couple. ఒక పళ్లెములో బియ్యమువేసి పైనపళ్లెముమూసి వధూవరుల మీద పాటలుపాడుచు చల్లే బియ్యము. 'మనయిళామాధవులకు శోభనమటంచు చల్లగాపాడి సుంకులుచల్లిరపుడు.' Ila. i. 114. 'బిరుదుల్ గంటలగట్టి సుంకువెలయున్ బింకెంబుతో నెంతగాకరుకుల్ జూపెను బోతుదన్ విరిసి స్రుక్కన్ వ్రాలుచున్ కంకిగాపరులొందన్ తెగునింతె కాకలమగర్భంబుల్ తృణప్రాయమై.'
