(p. 4) aṅgavradakṣiṇamu anga-pradakshiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Rolling the body like a log to the right for a distance or round a temple, as a religious vow or penance. ప్రార్థన చేసికొనువాడు గుడి మొదలగువాటికి ప్రదక్షిణముగా దొరలుట.

(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

(p. 35) aḍariñcu aḍarinṭsu. [Tel.] v. To do, make, perform; to discharge a missile weapon, to shoot an arrow. చేయు, వేయు. Also, to cause to fear. 'భూప్రదక్షిణ మడరింపగబోయి యమ్మహామహుడుపదంపడి.' Vijaya. Vil. ii. 173.

(p. 51) anātha a-nātha. [Skt.] adj. Without a master or protector, forlorn, unprotected, without a husband. దక్షతలేని, దిక్కులేని, మొగుడులేని. అనాథ a-nādha. n. A destitute, a poor helpless wretch. నిరాదరువుగా నుండేవాడు, దిక్కుమాలినవాడు.

(p. 63) apasavyamu apa-savyamu. [Skt.] adj. Contrary, opposite to, on the wrong side ప్రతికూలమైన, దక్షిణమైన, అనగా కుడిదైన, అపసవ్యలిపి letters written the wrong way as in a seal. అపసవ్యము n. Putting the braminical thread the wrong way: that is, on the right shoulder and letting it fall on the left side instead of lying on the left shoulder. జందెమును కుడిభుజము మీద నుంచి యెడమభుజమునకు కిందితట్టుగా వేసుకోవడము.

(p. 66) apradakṣiṇamu a-pradakshiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Walking round (a corpse. &c.) presenting the left hand towards it. ఎడమచెయితట్టుగా చుట్టును తిరగడము.

(p. 79) aravaralu aravaralu. [Tel.] n. Plu. Bits, fragments. తునకలు, ఖండములు. చిద్రుపలు తుత్తునకలు. 'కావించు దక్షియాగమున శివుని మరచిననయ్యజ్ఞ మరవరలైపోదె.' M. XIII. v. 393. అరవరచేయు to divide into small pieces, to destroy.

(p. 82) arupu or అరపు arupu. [Tel.] v. n. To remain or be left, to be saved, to be within one's power. దక్కు. అరపరాని unwiedly, not handy. అరపరానికడి a morsel too big to swallow. వాడు అరపరానికడిగానున్నాడు, అనగా, వాడు గుమ్మడికాయంత ముత్యముగానున్నాడు he is unwieldy.

(p. 82) arupukonu arupu-konu. [Tel.] v. a. To digest; to enjoy the possession of జీర్ణముచేసికొను, దక్కించుకొను. వారిసొమ్మును అన్యాయముగా అపహరించినాడు గాని దానిని వాడు అరుపుకోలేడు he has got the wealth wrongfully and will not be able to enjoy it.

(p. 93) avadagāki avada-gāki. [Tel.] n. An abominable wretch. పలుగాకి. 'దాచియెదురు పోయి దక్కిన గతి నువ్వునివ్వటిల్లవదన నీరజమున, కూర్చి చెట్టబట్టుకొని తెచ్చెలోపలి, కవదగాకినారియత్తలారి.' P. i. 592.

(p. 103) asura or అసురుడు asura. [Skt. lit. 'Assyrian'.] n. A demon, giant. రాక్షసుడు. The Asuras were such as Rāvaṇa and Bana, who were adorers of Siva. అసురకృత్యము a horrible deed. అసురధ్రువము asura-dhruvamu n. The south pole. దక్షిణధ్రమము. అసురసంధ్య asura-sandhya n. The dusk, the evening. సాయంకాలము. (In the Vedas and in the cuneiform inscriptions, the word అసుర is used in the sense of (1) a nobleman, (2) a powerful being, (3) a god. In later Skt. literature, it is always used in an evil sense.)

(p. 114) ādi ādi. [Skt.] n. The beginning. మొదలు Also, an aim గురి. ఆదిని at the beginning, at first. ఆదిముని an ancient prophet. ఆదిశేషువు ādi-ṣēshuvu. [Skt.] n. The old dragon, who is worshipped as the supporter of the earth. ఆది, ఆదిగా ādi. n. Etcetera. వాని గృహాదులు his house, &c. మన్వాదులు Manu and others. ఉత్తరాది నుంచి వచ్చినారు they came from the north. ఉత్తరాదివాండ్లు people of the north. దక్షిణాది సరుకులు goods imported from the south. ఆదికము ādikamu. n. Etcetera. అన్నాదికములు food, &c. ఆదికొను ādi-konu. v. i. To have one's eye on కన్ను వేయు 'వృషభమున కాదికొను బెబ్బులియుంబోలె.' భార: విరాట. v. ఆద్యంతములు (ఆది+అంతము) first and last. ఆద్యంత రహితుడు He who is without origin and end. God.

(p. 76) āyanamu ayanamu. [Skt.] n. Road, path. Half a year. Motion, course. మార్గము, అర్ధవత్సరము, సూర్యుని దక్షిణోత్తరగతి. ఉత్తరాయనము or ఉత్తరాయణము the sun's course for six months in the northern constellations of the zodiac. దక్షిణాయనము the sun's course for six months in the southern constellations of the zodiac. అయనకాలము the interval between the equinoxes. ఆయన భాగము the arc between the vernal equinoctial point and the beginning of the fixed zodiac or first point in Aries. ఆయన వలనము deviation of the ecliptic. అయనవృత్తము the ecliptic.

(p. 247) kamāyiṣu or కమాయషు or కమామిషు kamāyishu. [H.] n. Business, public business; affairs, details. Management of affairs. నిర్వాహకము, వ్యవహారదక్షత. News. Time of management. అతని కమామిషులో in his time, during his management. మా కమామిషుచూచేవాడు our agent.

(p. 267) kāgā kāgā. [Tel.] adv. Because, seeing that తమరుకాగా ఇది సాగినది this has been effected through you indeed. The same as అయ్యేటట్టుగా. కరమాశ్చర్యముగాగ to their great astonishment. కాగానే as soon as; therefore. ఆ పెండ్లి కాగానే as soon as ever the marriage was over. ఆ సమయములో తమరు చెయ్యి యిచ్చినారు, కాగానే ప్రాణము దక్కినది I owe my life to your aid.
