(p. 1) a a.1. The first letter of the Telugu alphabet as of many others. Hence the phrase అ ఆలు formed like the word 'alphabet' from the first two letters in the series, means the whole of the Tel. alphabet. See ఓనమాలు and వర్ణమాల. అకారము is the letter or sound of a, the term కారము being added to each letter in naming it. అకారాదిగా beginning with the letter అ seriatim, i.e., in alphabetical order. The letter అ has the same shape as the Eng. 'A' reversed. but is quite rounded off, and represents like its Semitic prototype 'the horns of an ox' (Taylor.) The stroke / called తలకట్టు tala-kaṭṭu and placed over many consonants is popularly, though by mistake as pointed out by Burnell, taken to be the secondary form of అ. The letter అ has the same sound as the Eng. a in 'around.' 'delta','Victoria. ' It is the 'low-back-wide vowel formed by the jaws, pharynx and lips wide open' and is supposed to be inherent in consonants -- e. g., in బ b, ల l, జ j.

A kind of puzzle, riddle or question which contains the solution or answer in itself. విడికథవలె అతికఠినమైన ప్రశ్నలు ఉత్తరములుగా మండేటిది. e.g. క' శ్రీకాంతునిదినమెన్నఁడు రాకొమరునికెద్ది ప్రియము రథతిథియెన్నం డేకొలదినన్నమరుంగును ఏకాదశినాఁడు సప్తమేడేగడియల్. There, in that place. అక్కడ. అందుకు or అందులక thereof, thereto, for that. అందులో therein. అందున or అందుచేత thereby, by that. అందునిమిత్తము therefore. అందుమీదట adj. thereafter. అటుతర్వాత, వాడు వచ్చి చేరినందుమీదట. after his arrival. అందులకు (an affix) thereto, for that. వ్రాయగలందులకు ad scribendum, to write. అందువల్ల (an affix) thereby. పోయినందువల్ల యేమి ప్రయోజనము what is the use of going? ఆయన రాగలందులకు for his coming. నేను వచ్చేటందుకు అయిదు దినములు పట్టును it will take five days for me to come. అట్లా ఉన్నందుకు for its being so. వాడు అట్లా చేసినందుచేత as he has done so. వాడు అట్లా చేసేటందుచేత by his doing so. అందులకు ఒక ప్రతి వ్రాసినాడు he wrote a copy of it. 'ఇందుగలడందు లేడని సందేహమువలదు' there is no doubt he is every where. ఇందు అందు both here and there; here and hereafter: in this life and the next. అంద in the same place దానియందే; అందలి = అక్కడ ఉండే.

To suffer or meet with (joy, grief, death, &c.) చెయ్యి చాచి పుచ్చుకొను, పొందు. అరుదందు feel surprise.భయమందు to be afraid. జన్మమందు to be born. వియ్యమందు to intermarry. అందిచూచు to peep, to look over a wall, &c. దుఃఖమందు to be sorry. కృతి అందినవాడు he to whom it is dedicated కంపమందు to be afraid. మిన్నందిన sky-high, reaching to the clouds. అందిపొందినవారు distant kinsfolk. అందించు [causal of అందు to reach.] v. t. To give, hand over, to enable to get.
