(p. 47) adhōmukhamu adhō-mukhamu. [Skt.] n. The face turned downwards: a downcast countenance. కిందికి వంచుకొని యుండే మొగము. అధోముఖముగా adv. With the face turned downwards, with a downcast countenance; headlong. తలవంచుకొని, తలక్రిందుగా. దివిటీని అధో ముఖముగా పట్టినాడు he held the torch with the flame downwards. అధోముఖుడు [Skt.] n. He who is downcast. ashamed or crest fallen. అతడు అధోముఖుడై ఉండెను he hung his head.

(p. 136) ināmu or ఈనాము ināmu. [H.] Inam, a present of gift; land granted by the Government rent free for ever or subject to a small quit rent. A present by Government. మాన్యము, బహుమానము. ఇనాముదారుడు a holder of an inam. నెత్తురుకట్టు ఇనాము land granted to such as had shed blood in battle. కదీంయినాము an old bequest. దివిటీయినాము a grant of land to a torchbearer. ఇనాయతుచేయు to grant.

(p. 650) niccena nichchena. [Tel.] n. A ladder. నిశ్రేణి. నిచ్చెనపం౛ు or నిచ్చెనదివ్వెపం౛ు nitchchena-panḍzu. n. A ladder on which a number of torches are arranged. దివిటీల కమ్ములమర్చిన నిచ్చెనవంటి సాధనము.

(p. 692) pagalu or పవలు pagalu. [Tel.] n. Day-time. Day. అహస్సు. (Adverbially) by day, in the day time. రాత్రింబగలు day and night. పగటిమీదను అక్కడినుండి తర్లితిమి we set out in the afternoon. పగటివేలుపు pagativēlupu. n. The god of the day, i.e., the sun. పట్టపగలు paṭṭa-pagalu. [పగలు+పగలు.] n. Broad day. adv. In full daylight. పగలువత్తి pagalu-vatti. n. The fire work called a blue light or Roman candle. మతాబు. 'పగలొత్తుల్ దివిటీలుతిర్వళిఘలున్.' H. iii. 31.

(p. 996) mukhamu mukhamu. [Skt.] n. The mouth, నోరు. The face, countenance, మొగము. The commencement, ఆరంభము. The front, ముందటిభాగము. The external appearance, the look of the face, ముఖవిలాసము. నిశాముఖము nightfall, evening. సేనాముఖము the front of the army. నఖముఖములు the points of the nails. ముఖమిచ్చు to indulge. అతడు వారితో ముఖమిచ్చి మాట్లాడలేదు he did not speak with them as a friend. 'బల్దూరంబైన శ్మశానవాటి ముఖమాలోకింపగన్.' Bilh. iii. 25. అధోముఖుడుగానుండినాడు he was hanging with his head down. ఆ దివిటీని అధోముఖముగాపట్టినాడు he held the torch with the flaming end downwards. 'అనుఘకథాముఖంబున హితాహిత బోధమొనర్తురింపుగా.' Mand. i. 8. టీ కాథా ముఖంబున by means of a story, కథచేతను అర్ధముఖము the profile or half face. తమరు రామునిముఖముచూచి నన్ను రక్షింపవలసినది I pray that for the sake of Rama you will relieve me. పడమటిముఖముగా towards the west. పడమటిముఖముగా నుండే యిల్లు a house facing the west. ఆడదానిముఖమెరుగనివాడు a youth that as yet knows not the face of a woman, i.e., entirely chaste. అందరును ఏకముఖముగా నుండలేదుగనుక as they were not unanimous or were not all of one mind. 'బాణకృపాణముఖాస్త్ర శస్త్రములు,' M. VII. ii. 275; arrows, swords, and other weapons. ముఖముమాడ్చుకొనినాడు he looked sulky or angry. వానికి ముఖము చచ్చినది he turned pale, he looked blank or ashamed. ముఖదాక్షిణ్యము complaisance. వానిముఖములో ఈగ ఆడలేదు he was all in a pucker. ఆ రూకలను వాని ముఖముమిద పారవేయుము fling the money at his face. అది వానికి ముఖపాఠముగానున్నది he has got it by heart. వాడు ముఖప్రితి మాటలాడును he talks plausibly. ముఖమెరుగనివాడు a stranger. ముఖమెరుగనిదేశము a strange land, a land where one has no acquaintance. ముఖవాసికలవాడు he is a winning man. వానికి ముఖవశ్యముకద్దు he is a very taking man. ముఖము తప్పించుకొనిపోయినాడు he has absconded or disappeared. ముఖస్తుతి flattery. ముఖస్తుతిచేయు to flatter. వాని కాశ్లోకము ముఖస్థముగానున్నది he knows the verse by heart. ముఖద్వారము mukhadvāramu. n. The mouth. నోరు. నదీముఖద్వారము the mouth of a river. ముఖపట్ట or మొగపట్టా mukha-paṭṭa. n. The headstall of a horse, గుర్రము యొక్క ముఖమునకువేసే తోలుపట్టా. ముఖమంటపము mukha-manṭapamu. n. The porch or pillared entrance of a Hindu temple. మందరిమండపము. ముఖవచనము mukha-vachanamu. n. Verbal communication, word of mouth. నోటిమాట. ముఖవస్త్రము mukha-vastramu. n. A veil. A pall, ప్రేతవస్త్రము. ముఖశాల or మొగసాల mukha-sāla. n. A hall at the entrance of a house, an antechamber, తల వాకిటిచావడి. ముఖాంతరముగా mukh-āntaramu-gā. adv. By means of, through, ద్వారా. నా తమ్ముని ముఖాంతరముగా పంపించినాను I sent it by my brother. ముఖాముఖి mukhā-mukhi. adv. Face to face. ఎదురెదురుగా. 'వినుముఖాముఖిబల్కెద.' T. iii. 84. ముఖుడు mukhudu. n. A word used in compounds, thus అధోముఖుడై hanging with his face down. సుముఖుడుగా మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke graciously. దుర్ముఖుడైయుండినాడు he was cross. పరాఙ్ముఖుడైయుండెను he turned his face away.

(p. 1223) vēyu vēyu. [Tel.] v. a. To throw, cast, or fling. To discharge a missile weapon, or fire arms. To let drop, దిగవిడుచు. To place, put, put on, as a dress. ఉంచు. దానిని చెంపమీద ఒక దెబ్బ వేసినాడు he gave her a slap on the cheek. ఆ గుడ్డను బల్లమీద వేసినాడు he put the cloth on the table. నాకూటిలో రాయివేసినాడు he threw a stone into my food, i.e., he injured my livelihood. మూతవేయు to put a lid on, shut. తలుపు వేసినాడు he shut the door. రాత్రిఅంతా నేను రెప్పవేయలేదు I did not close my eyes all last night. కోలాటము వేస్తున్నారు they are dancing a Kolatam. గంతులువేయు to leap. బండికట్టు or వేయు to make the carriage ready. పల్లమువేయు or వేయు to make the carriage ready. పల్లమువేయు or జీనికట్టు or వేయు to saddle a horse. ప్రశ్నవేయు to ask a question. గుడిసెవేయు to build a hut. దివిటీలువేయు to light torches. లెక్కవేయు to add up an account. ఆ యావు దూడవేసినది the cow calved. మబ్బువేసినది it is now cloudy. మేతవేయు to give fodder. కూతవేయు to give a cry. 'చయ్యనరెట్టబట్టి పొమ్మని వెనుకకుబడద్రోచి వీపువేసెన్ పెలుచన్.' Vish. ii. 14. పడమటిగాలి వేసేటప్పుడు when the land-wind blows. నాకు భయమువేస్తున్నది I am afraid. కంపువేస్తున్నది it is stinking. As an auxiliary added to some past participles, it denotes completeness of action and may be expressed by 'up, off, on, down, through, away.' కోసివేయు to cut off. మూసివేయు to shut up. తోసివేయు to push a way. తీసివేయు to draw out. పీకివేయు to pluck up or out. కొట్టివేయు to strike down or cut off. వ్రాసివేయు to write off. ఇచ్చివేయు to give away. తినివేయు to eat up. It is also used with an infinitive; as పడవేయు to cast down; పారవేయు to throw away. వేసికొను vēsi-konu. v. a. To put, place, eat, consume. నా సొత్తును వాని నోటిలో వేసికొన్నాడు he devoured my property. ఆ మాతను నోటో వేసుకొచ్చాడు he put the pill in his mouth. టోపి వేసుకొన్నాడు he put on his hat. మిడతవేసుకొని పోయిన పంట corn eaten up by the locusts.

(p. 1339) suḍumu suḍumu. [Tel.] n. A flock of a hundred sheep. నూరుగొర్రెలగుంపు. A torch దివిటీ. A fagot of firewood or wisp of grass, used as a torch. దివిటీవలె మండడమునకై కట్టినకసవు లేక కట్టెలకట్ట. బోడసుడుము a lighted wisp of straw.
