(p. 618) dvīpamu dvīpamu. [Skt.] n. An island. దీవి. A continent. The Hindu mythology reckons seven such. In compounds this means Foreign. Thus, ద్వీపద్రాక్షపండ్లు Raisins., i.e., foreign grapes. ద్వీపాంతరములు foreign parts. ద్వీపవతి dvīpa-vati. n. A river, stream. నది, ఏరు ద్వీపి dvīpi. adj. Pertaining to islands, native of an island, insular. n. A tiger, ounce or leopard, పులి, చిరుతపులి. The sea, సముద్రము.

(p. 619) dvaipāyanuḍu dvaipāyanuḍu. [Skt. from ద్వీపము.] n. Lit: The Island born. An epithet of వ్యాస the celebrated poet.

(p. 895) būraga , బూరుగ, బూరుగు or బూరువు būraga. [Tel.] n. The silk cotton tree. Bombax heptaphylla, Rox. iii. 167. శాల్మలి. Its wood is like the poplar or sallow proverbially large and useless. వాడు వట్టి బూరగమాను he is a mere log, he is a stupid booby. One species is called కుక్కబూరగ; another is దుంకిబూరగచెట్టు. Briedelia scandens Rox. iii. 737. బూరగదూది the cotton found in these pods, which steeped in nitre, is used for tinder. ముండ్లబూరగమాను. Bombax malabaricum (Wight, plate 297 and Watts.) బూరుగు దీవి the name of an island, శాల్మలద్వీపము.

(p. 1021) meṭṭu meṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To step, walk, tread. అడుగుపెట్టు, నడుచు, త్రొక్కు. 'మెల్ల మెల్లన మెట్టుచుదొలగి అల్లనల్లనతలుపులండకు జేరి.' BD iv. 1523. To tread on, to trample on. To kick, to thrust with the foot. To wear, as sandals. తొక్కు, కాలితోతన్ను, పాదుకలు వేసికొను. 'ఏయేతీర్థములందు గ్రుంకిడితి రేయేద్వీపముల్ మెట్టినారు.' Swa. i. 26. See also మెటిక. మెట్టిమల్లాడు meṭṭi-mall-āḍu. v. a. To trample down or all over, to ruin, హతముచేయు, ధ్వంసముచేయు. 'కర్మంబుల కట్టడలకులోనుగాక మాయలనుమెట్టి మల్లాడి నిర్మలలింగసేవ నెట్టిభక్తిఘటించు.'
