(p. 9) aṇḍa anḍa [Tel.] n. Nearness; assistance, protection, patronage. ఆసరా, ఆశ్రయము. అండగోడ a buttress, a sloping wall, built to support another. ఆయన అండ చేరి ఉన్నాను I am under his protection. ఆయనను అండచేసికొనియున్నాను I look upon him as my supporter, I hold to him.

(p. 28) acciuṇḍu acchi-unḍu. [Tel.] v. i. To be indebted to. వాడికి అది అచ్చిఉండి యిచ్చినాను it was my bad luck and I had to give it to him. See. అచ్చు.

(p. 29) accu aṭṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To be indebted, suffer loss. ఋణపడు, దండగపెట్టు నీకు నే వచ్చియున్నానా am I indebted to you? దానికి పదిరూపాయలు అచ్చినాను I lost ten rupees by that business. See. అచ్చిఉండు.

(p. 29) accukonu aṭṭsu-konu. [Tel.] v. n. To pay, pay wrongfully, liquidate. దండగపెట్టు. వాడు దివాణమునకు పది రూపాయలు అచ్చుకొన్నాడు he paid ten Rupees to government. ఆ నేలకుగాను నలభైరూపాయలు అచ్చుకొనియున్నాను. I have suffered, on account of that land, a loss of forty rupees. మేము అచ్చుకొనువారము we will make it good.

(p. 47) adhīnamu adhīnamu. [Skt.] adj. Dependent on, subject to, subservient. పరాధీనమైన, నిదేయమైన. అధీనత adhīnata. [Skt.] Subjection, dependence. అధీనము n. Possession, power, charge, control, authority. స్వాధీనము, అధికారము. అది నా అధీనములో లేదు it is not in my possession. నా అధీనములోనుండేవారు those who are under my control. దాన్ని నీ అధీనము చేసినాను I have committed it to you.

(p. 50) anavuḍu, nāvuḍu or నాన్ anavuḍu. [Tel.] adv. On saying this అనగా, అనేటప్పటికి. 'నృపనన్ను వివాహమ్మగుమనవుడు.' Swa. vi. 23.

(p. 59) anni anni. [Tel.] (Plu. adj. Pron.) So many, all. సమస్తము. అన్నినాళ్లు so many days. అన్ని anni. [Tel.] n. All (Loc. అన్నిట or అన్నిటిలో in all, in all things. Dative అన్నిటికి to all, on the whole.) వాడు అన్నిటా సమర్థుడు he is clever in every thing. అన్నిటికి నేను ఉన్నాను I will be answerable for all. అన్నిటికి తమ్మునే నమ్మి యున్నాను you are my all in all. అన్నిటికి అన్ని చెప్పుచున్నాడు he gives an excuse for every thing.

(p. 64) apātramu a-pātramu. [Skt.] adj. Unworthy, undeserving, unfit. తగని, అయోగ్యమైన, అర్హముకాని. అపాత్రుడు n. He who is unworthy or undeserving. అయోగ్యుడు, అనర్హుడు. నేను ఆయన దయకు అపాత్రుడనైనాను I forfeited his favour. I incurred his displeasure.

(p. 77) ayōmayamu ayō-mayamu. [Skt.] adj. Made of iron; abstruse, hard, difficult. ఇనుముతో చేసిన, కఠినమైన. నేను ఈ అయోమయములో పడియున్నాను. I am now in these difficulties.

(p. 92) avagāhamu or అవగాహనము ava-gāhamu. [Skt.] n. Immersion: bathing: comprehension. ముణగడము, తెలియడము, అకళింత. అది నాకు అవగాహము కాలేదు I do not comprehend it. అది నీకు అవగాహనమైనదా have you understood it? దాన్ని నేను అవగాహనము చేసికొన్నాను I have understood it.

(p. 1396) avāmuttugā anāmattu-gā. [H. corruption of అమానతు]. adj. Separately. అసొమ్యును అనామతుగాఉంచినాను I kept that money apart.

(p. 120) āra āra. [Tel.] n. A shoemaker's awl. మాదిగవానిసూది. ఆర adv. (lit. so as to fill) Much; fully. (From ఆరు.) It is often added to a noun; as చెవులార వింటిని I heard it distinctly: కండ్లార చూస్తిని I saw him plainly with my own eyes. కడుపార భోజనము చేసినాను I ate to the full. ఆర āra. [Tel.] A vocative plural suffix as అన్నలార. O brothers!

(p. 144) īdu īdu. [Tel.] v. n. To swim. ఈత īta. n. Swimming. ఈతకాడు a swimmer. ఈతకాయ a swimming gourd, a float. ఈతకొట్టు or ఈతలాడు or ఈదులాడు to swim or float. వ్రేలాడు. దారిద్రమనే సముద్రమునందు యీదులాడుచున్నాను. I am struggling in the sea of poverty.

(p. 167) ummaḍi ummaḍi. [Tel.] n. Partnership, fellowship. ఉమ్మడిగా నుండే common to both: held in common. ఒక్క ఉమ్మడిని at once, in one rush, all at once. ఒక్క సారిగా. ఆ సరుకును ఉమ్మడిని కొన్నాను. I bought it wholesale.

(p. 200) ēmi or ఏమీ ēmi. [Tel.] pron. What. నాదగ్గిర యేమిన్ని లేదు. I have nothing with me. వాడు ఏమయినాడు what has become of him? ఇంక చేయవలసినది మరి యేమి లేదు nothing further remains to be done. ఏమైనా ఉండును there may be something. నేనిక్కడ ఉండడమువల్ల ఫలమేమి what is the good of my staying here? సోమ్ము ఏమిన్ని పోలేదు nothing has been lost. ఏమికతంబున (i.e. ఎందునిమిత్తము) for what reason. వాడేమి నేనేమి అంతా ఒక్కటే either he or I, there is no difference. వచ్చినాడా యేమి has he come? నా తండ్రియేమి నేనేమి both my father and I, my father as well as I. ఎవ్వడైనానేమి no matter who it is. అదియేమి యిదియేమి either this or that. ఆ యిల్లు మీకు చాలకయేమి what do you mean by saying the house is too small for you? వాడు రాకయేమి why should he not come? surely, he will? ఏమివచ్చినావు what have you come for? కుక్క యేమి మొరుగుచున్నది how the dog barks! వాడు ఏమిన్ని యేడవలేదు he did not weep at all. ఏమిటి ēmiṭi. pron. & adj. What, of which, what kind of. అదేమిటి what's that? ఏమిటో I don't know what that is వాడు ఏమిటివాడు of what caste is he? ఏమిటికి wherefore, for what reason. ఏమిటికో I know not why. ఏమిన్ని anything whatever. ఏమిన్ని యివ్వడు he will give nothing. ఏమొ or ఏమో ēmo. (ఏమి with ō added for doubt.) I know not what. రాలేదేమో perhaps they did not come.
