(p. 3) aṅkuśamu ankuṣamu, [Skt.] n. An elephant goad, an elephant driver's hook. Also, a check, a bar, a poser, a ruling case or argument. అంకుశమున నిలిపినాడు he made them stop short. ఇది జ్వరాంకుశము this is a specific against fever, that which arrests the disease. కవిగజాంకుశము (title of a book) a code to guide the poets. అంకుశమునకురాని ungovernable, head-strong, untractable, indocile.

(p. 194) ēkāgruḍu ēkāgruḍu. [Skt ఏక+అగ్రుడు] adj. Attentive, intent. ఒక్కదానియందే మనస్సును నిలిపినవాడు. ఏకాగ్రచిత్తుడు having his heart bent on some one thing.

(p. 661) nilcu or నిలుచు niluṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To stand. To remain, exist, last, live. continue. To stay, stop, halt. నిలిచిపోవు. To be still or quiet, as a fluid in a vessel. To be firm or steadfast. To bear, be patient, restrain one's feelings. To be repressed, allayed, slackened. వాని మాట నిలిచినది he kept his word. నిలిచికురియదు it does not rain steadily. ఆ బడి నిలిచిపోయినది the school is now closed. పని నిలిచిపోయినది the work has stopped. M. XII. v. 459. నిలుపాటి or నిలువుపాటి long, పొడుగైన. నిలువబెట్టు to set up , erect. నిలువతీయు to set one on his legs. నిలుచుండు or నిల్చుండు niluṭs-unḍu. (నిలిచి+ఉండు.) v. n. To remain standing, to continue to stand. నిలుచుండు. నిలుడుకొ Same as నిలుచుండు. నిల used for నిలువ. నిలబడు, నిలువబడు or నిల్వబడు nila-baḍu. v. n. To stand. నిలుచుండు. To be stopped. అడ్డుపడు. To be set up, ప్రతిష్ఠతమగు. నిలక, నిలకడ, నిలుకడ or నిల్కడ nilaka. n. Delay: endurance, (Vizag.) నిలువెడుఎత్తు or నిలువుఎత్తు niluveḍu-y-ettu. n. A fathom high, lit: one man's stature. నిలుపు nitupu. v. a. To cause to stand, నిలువబెట్టు. Upright, standing, High, tall. నిలువుచెంబు a cup with upright sides, a mug. నిలువుఅంచనా reckoning upon the standing crop. నిలువుటద్దము niluvu-ṭ-addamu. n. A pier glass, a full length mirror. నిలువుకొలువు or నిలువుజీతము service in which one has to stand up always and is not allowed to sit. నిలుచుండిచేయు సేవ. నిలువుకాళ్లు stilts. నిలవరము, నిలువరము or నిల్వరము nilava-ramu. n. Firmness, steadfastness. The truth, certainity. A deposit, money lodged. adj. True, certain, fixed, firm, stable, sure, స్థిరమైన. నిలవరించు, నిలువరించు or నిల్వరించు nilavarinṭsu. v. n. To stand firmly. చలింపకనిలుచు. v. a. To cause to stand firmly. చలింపకనిలువు. To stop, to cause to halt; to support, to manage, to sustain.

(p. 708) panupaḍu or పన్నుపడు panu-paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be accustomed, incured, qualified, to fit, to suit. వాడుకపడు, అలవాటుపడు, సరిపడు, ఇముడు, తగియుండు. To happen, కలుగు. వాడు వ్రాయడమునకు బాగా పడుపడ్డవాడు he is dexterous or skilled in writing. 'సద్భుద్ధిదృఢమగుసాధనంబుగగొని మరలిచియాత్మను మనసునిలిపి యుపగతసంకల్పుడై యుపల స్థాణుభంగికస్థితిబనుపడిదివంబు రాత్రి యును.' M. XII. vi. 37. ఉపలస్థాణు భంగికస్థితిబనుపడి, అనగా రాతిస్తంభము రీతిగా చలించకుండా ఉండడమునకు అలవాటుపడి. పనుపరచు panu-paraṭsu. v. a. To inure, to accustom, drill, train. To trim, rectify, mend, adjust.

(p. 816) pō pō. (The infinitive of పోవు) అతడు పోజూచి seeing that he was gone. పో pō. (Imperative of పోవు.) v. n. Go, పొమ్ము. In many places this is a mere expletive, as Go to. (in English). It denotes certainty or disregard, నిశ్చయమును లేక ఆనాదరమును తెలుపును. 'తెచ్చెదంబో వసుదేవమాను.' ఉ. హరి. v. పోక pōka. n. Going. పోవడము. Conduct, behaviour, నడవడి. పోకలు n. plu. Evil ways, wickedness. పోకరింతనములు Foolish wishes, or longings, ముద్దుకోరికలు. 'పల్పోకశృంగారములు.' (T. iii. 81.) very naughty pranks. పోకరిసొగసులు నీవుపోయినదే పోకా are you to be indulged in every thing? వారేమి అదేపోక పోయిరి I am surprised that they did not come back. పోక pōka. for పోవక(neg. p. of పోవు.) Without going. Also for పోకు, i.e., పోవద్దు don't go. (the final A being intensive.) పోకడ pō-kaḍa. n. Going, departure, going off. గమనము, గతి Behaviour, conduct, నడత, ప్రవర్తనము. Riddance. Ruin, నాశము. నెలదినాలుగా రాకడపోకడలేదు there has been no inter course between us for a month (literally going and coming.) పోకడపెట్టు pōkaḍa-peṭṭu. v. a. To drive away, to remove, పోగొట్టు. To sell, అమ్ము. విక్రయించు. దాన్ని ఎట్లైనను పోకడపెట్టు get rid of it in any way. పోకలాడి pōkal-āḍi. (పోకలు+ఆడి) n. A coquette, వగలాడి. 'క చూపట్ట గోమయంబున, జేపట్టొనరించి జడల జెక్కినలింగం, బాపోకలాడి కైకొని వేపికడన్నిలిపిభక్తివివశయు బోలెన్.' S. ii. 49. పోకలాడు pōkal-āḍu. v. n. To be coquettish, to flirt. పోకాడు pōkāḍu. (పోక+ఆడు.) v. n. To go, పోవు. To be done away with, to be destroyed, నశించు. పోకార్చు pōkārṭsu. v. a. To lose, పోగొట్టు, పోగొట్టుకొను. To destroy, ruin. 'రఘుకుమారుడరివర్గము పోకార్చి.' R. iii. 137. పోకాలు pōkālu. v. n. To go, as anger, sorrow, &c. పోవు. పోకరి pōkiri. n. A wicked man, a villain rogue, lewd fellow, blackguard, దుర్మార్గుడు adj. Naughty, wicked, mischievous, unprincipled. పోకరిమాట an obsence word. పోకిళ్లు pōkiḷḷu. n. plu. Idle wishes, fopperies, whims, freaks, whimsies. పోకిళ్లమారి a fop, an epicure.

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. A cow that butts, పొడిచే స్వభావముగల ఆవు పోటరి or పోటరికాడు pōṭari. (పోటు+అరి.) n. A hero, a brave man. శూరుడు. 'పోటరులైనభర్త లేవురు గలరంటి.' M. IV. ii. 264. పోటరితనము pōṭari-tanamu. n. (p. 901) bēhāramu or బేహరము bēhāramu. [from Skt. విహారము.] n. Trade, commerce, వాణిజ్యము, వర్తకవ్యాపారము, బేరము. 'అంగళ్లునిలిపె బేహారముల్ మాన్చె.' BD. iv. 61. బేహారి or బెహారి bēhāri. n. A merchant. వణిజుడు, వర్తకుడు.

(p. 1010) muluca or ముల్చ muluṭsa. [Tel.] adj. Mean, trifling, slight. తక్కువైన, అల్పమైన. 'ఏలనామొగమోట మేమియులేక, ములుచ మాటలనన్ను ముదుకజేసెదవు.' Dab. 39. n. A mean wretch. తల్పుడు, క్షుద్రుడు. 'క చిలుకచదువనుట చదివిన, ములుచల దృష్టాంతమట్టి మూఢపు దుర్జా, తుల జిలుకలదెలిచిన దయ, గలదేమది బెదరవదరుగాక నిజేచ్ఛన్.' KP. vi. 301. ములుచదనము muluṭsa-danamu. n. Slightness, meanness. పలుచదనము. 'కులగోత్రములవారి నిలిపి కట్టెలు నీళ్లు మోయించు చుండెను ములుచదనము.' H. ii. 259.

(p. 1028) mēḍi mēḍi. [Tel.] n. A plough staff, or plough tail. నాగటిదుంప వెనుక నిలిపినకొయ్య. మేడితలకిందుగాపాతు or పాతిపెట్టు to bury a plough staff upside down as a signal (దురాయి) to warn people that the land is under ban. మేడికర్ర mēḍi-karra. n. The pole or shaft of a plough. మేడికోరు or మేడిపాలు the farmer's share of the crop. మేడితాడు mēḍi-tāḍu. n. The plough bands. మేడితోక or మేడిసోగ mēḍi-tōka. n. The plough tail. మేడిసీల or మేడిచీల the nail or pin which fastens the plough to the handle.

(p. 1045) mōṭu mōṭu. [Tel.] n. An obstinate person. మూర్ఖుడు, మ్రోడు. A stupid person, or blockhead. మూఢుడు, మూఢస్త్రీ. A male horse, మగగుర్రము. A country bred horse, తట్టువగుర్రము. A stump, block, trunk. మోడు, నరకగా మిగిలిన కాళ్లుచేతులు మొదలైనవి, మొద్దు.' కాలినమోటువంటి కొరగాని శరీరము.' Vish. ii. 143. A false human figure placed before a sow, పందికెదుట మనుష్యాకారముగా నిలిపిన కపటలక్ష్యము. adj. Dull, stupid, simple, rude, coarse. boorish, uncivilised, vulgar, మడ్డి. మూఢమైన, మూర్ఖమైన, మోటుసరసము bear's play, practical jokes, rough romping. మోటాసపడు mōṭ-āsa-paḍu. (మోటు + ఆసపడు.) v. a. To aim at. 'సీ సటలెత్తుకొనియెత్తు కిటినైనమోటాస పడియేయబొడుతునీపాదమాన.' Swa. iv. 44. టీ మోటాసపడియేయ, మాటు చేసికొని బాణములచేతవేయను.

(p. 1069) rā rā. [Tel.] n. and adj. Short for రాయి a stone; and also for రాచ (kindly adj.) Pertaining to a stone. రాతిసంబంధమైన. Pertaining to a king, of the king, royal, రాచ, ఆ నూతికి రాకట్టు కట్టించిరి they built the well round with stone. 'పచ్చరా జగతిపై, పసిడి కంబములు మెచ్చుగానిలిపి, యామీద నీలంపుబోదెలు.'
