(p. 257) kalaśamu kalaṣamu. [Skt.] n. A vase, flagon, or water pot: కుండ. the gilt ornament on the pinnacle of a pagoda or tower. In palmistry, కలశరేఖలు certain lines in the palm of the hand. A. v. 31. కలశమునిలుపు or కలశముపెట్టు or కలశస్థాపనముచేయు the preliminary rite of solemnly placing a vase. కలశపూజ the adoration paid to that vessel, being the principal rite in all religious celebrations. కలశాబ్ధి kalaṣ-ābdhi n. The ocean of milk. కలశబ్ధిజ the goddess Lakshmi. కలశి kalaṣi. n. A pot. కుండ. కలశీసుతుడు or కలశీసంభవుడు The 'Vase-born' An epithet or Agastya, who was born, like Orion, in a pot. A. v. 107.

(p. 372) gukka or గ్రుక్క gukka. [Tel.] n. The act of drawing in the breath, a gulp, a mouthful. గుక్క తిరుగకుండా నవ్వెను he was in fits of laughter. గుక్కనిలుపు or గుక్క పట్టు to restrain the breath. గుక్కెడు gukkeḍu. n. A mouthful. గుక్కిలి or గ్రుక్కిలి gukkili. [Tel.] The apple of the throat, a gulp; గుక్కిళ్లు మింగినాడు he swallowed his saliva, i.e., restrained himself, hesitated.

(p. 447) cāliñcu ṭsālinṭsu. [Tel. from చాలు.] v. a. To cease, to leave off, to quit, to desist. నిలుపుదలచేయు. వాడు దేహము చాలించెను he died. (lit. left the body.) వెదచాలించినాను I abstained from sowing corn. చాలించుకొను to resign, to desist from, to give up (as an employment) చాలిక ṭsālika. n. Ability సామర్ధ్యము. చాలిమి inability ఆశక్తి.

(p. 661) nilcu or నిలుచు niluṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To stand. To remain, exist, last, live. continue. To stay, stop, halt. నిలిచిపోవు. To be still or quiet, as a fluid in a vessel. To be firm or steadfast. To bear, be patient, restrain one's feelings. To be repressed, allayed, slackened. వాని మాట నిలిచినది he kept his word. నిలిచికురియదు it does not rain steadily. ఆ బడి నిలిచిపోయినది the school is now closed. పని నిలిచిపోయినది the work has stopped. Acid, sour. పులికడుగు sour washings, i.e., water in which raw rice has been washed and is then left to ferment. పులికూడు food that has turned sour. పులికాపు puli-kāpu. n. A mixture of tamarinds in water with which copper or brass images are scoured. పులిగంజి sour gruel. పులిగడుగు puli-gaḍugu. v. a. To wash. (కడుగు) pearls, &c. in (పులి) acid, to restore their brilliancy To scour, burnish. 'నలువురిమును నీగతిమతి నిలుపుమహాత్ములకు నాత్మనిర్మలమగుచో, పులిగడిగినట్లురాగా, దులసంగతిచేతమున్ను దూషితమైనన్.' Prabōdha chandrōd. ii. 108. పులిగాయము puli-gāyamu. n. A scar. ఆరినమచ్చ, పుంటిమచ్చ. పులిచంచలము puli-chinṭsa-lamu. n. A medicinal plant. అగ్నిజిత్తు. పులిచింత or పులిచంచెలి puli-chinta. n. (p. 830) pratiṣṭha pratishṭha. [Skt.] n. Staying, standing, నిలుపుట. స్థితి. Fame, celebrity. కీర్తి. Consceration, dedication. స్తంభప్రతిష్ఠ setting up a pillar as a preliminary to a wedding, &c. దేవాలయప్రతిష్ఠచేయు to consecrate a temple. ప్రతిష్ఠించు pratishṭhinṭsu. v. a. To establish permanently or firmly, to dedicate, శాశ్వతముగా నిలుపు, స్థాపించు. 'యౌవరాజ్య పట్టంబునకు నంగదుంబ్రతిష్ఠించి.' R. v. 326. ప్రతిష్ఠితము pratishṭhitamu. adj. Firmly or permanently established, dedicated.
