(p. 4) aṅke anke. [Tel.] n. A numerical figure అంకము. Opportunity, time. One pack, half a bullock load. A form of అణక. Bringing the yoke under the neck, as by a troublesome bullock. ఎద్దులు అంకె వేసికొన్నవి the bullocks turned restive, bringing the yoke under the neck. A command, authority, control, restraint, check. అంకెగొను v. i. To cover oneself with కప్పుకొను. అంకెచేయు v. i. To obstruct అడ్డగించు.అంకెకురాని,(భాస్క.2.) ungovernable. అంకెకురావు, అనగా అక్కరకురావు they will not be of any use. అంకెవేసికొను or అణకవేసికొను v. n. To be restive, as a bullock in the yoke. ఎద్దయకాడికెదురు తిరుగుట. నాడు తేపతేపకు అంకెవేసికొనును. he turns restive every now and then.

(p. 10) antaraṅgamu anta-rangamu. [Skt.] n. The mind, the heart. కఠినాంతరంగుడు a hard hearted man. సంతుష్టాంతరంగుడు one whose heart is pleased. The middle, midst. Secrecy, privacy. అంతరంగపుమాట a secret. 'కల్యాణవేది కాంతరంగంబున నున్నయెడ.' N. 9. 126.

(p. 15) anthramu or ఆంధ్రము andhramu. [Skt.] n. A Sanscrit name for the Telugu language. తెలుగు. ఆంధ్రదేశము the Telugu country తెలుగుదేశము. 'ఆంధ్రమధుమథనుని.' A pref. 12 'ఆంధ్రజలజాక్షుడిట్టులని యానతిచ్చె.' ib pre. 14.

(p. 13) andadukulugā andadukulugā. [Tel.] అదుకు+అదుకు] adv. About enough. చాలీచాలక. అందదుకులుగానుండే not sufficient. ఆ చీరె ఆమెకు అందదుకులుగానున్నది that cloth is not long enough for her.

(p. 14) andāyattugānuṇḍē , or అంతాయత్తైన andāyattugānunde. [Corrupted from అందముగా] adj. Neat, pretty, handsome. సొంపుగానుండే. ఈ బండి అందాయత్తుగా నున్నది this carriage is neat.

(p. 32) aṭṭi aṭṭi. adj. pron. Such, like that అటువంటి Such a man అట్టివాడు అట్టిట్టు n. (lit. that way and this way.) Confusion. అయినమట్టుకు వాడు ఈ ఊరిని అట్టిట్టుచేసి వెళ్లినాడు he ruined this place. అట్టిట్టుగా adv. In a confused state. వానికి ఇప్పుడు అట్టిట్టుగానున్నది he is in a very critical state. అట్టిద it is such or is it such? అటువంటిదే.

(p. 33) aṭṭeḍa aṭṭeḍa. [Tel.] n. A sieve. తూర్పారపెట్టిన ధాన్యమును జల్లించే ఒక విధమైన జల్లెడ. A bridge. A part of a fort. 'అట్టెళ్లపైవారు, అట్నాలపైవారు, కోటకొమ్మలకును జేరువనున్నవారు.' Pal. 461.

(p. 33) aḍakiñcu aḍakinṭsu. [Tel.] v. t. To laugh at. To scorn. To blame. అపహసించు. చ 'పలికిననట్లయున్నదియె పత్రికలోనడకించెదోననున్.' ప్ర. భా. 3. ఆ. గీ 'అకట నీవు నన్ను నడకించిపోజూచె దేనుమోసపోను.' భో. 6. ఆ.

(p. 37) aḍusu aḍusu. [Tel.] n. Mire, mud, clay. బురద. ఆ వ్యవహారము అడుసులో నాటిన స్తంభమువలె నున్నది the matter is unsettled. (lit. like a post in a quagmire.)

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 40) atimātra ati-mātra. [Skt.] n. A 'pill too much,' i.e., excess in medicine. అధికమైన మందు. వాడు యిప్పుడు నిండా అతిమాత్రగానున్నాడు he has now gone wild. అతిమాత్రము atimātramu. [Skt.] adj. Exceeding; immoderate; excessive. మిక్కిలి మిక్కుటమైన.

(p. 43) adavaḍa adavada. [Tel.] n. Confusion, grief; affliction. కలత, దుఃఖము, వ్యాకులము. 'ఎందునున్నను తెత్తునియ్యిందువదన వదనవడు జూడుమద వదవదలియధిప. ' R. v. 276. అడవదవడు v. n. To be in grief, be sorrowful, be troubled. వందలమందు, విచారపడు, వ్యాకులపడు. 'పదపదరాఘవ నిలునిలు, మదవడపడవల దుదళరధాధిపనీకున్.' R. iv. 15.

(p. 55) anunayamu anu-nayamu. [Skt.] n. Conciliation, consoling, entreaty, begging. సాంత్వనము, ఓదార్చడము, అడుగుకోవడము, మంచిమాటలాడడము, ఊరట. అనునయించు anu-nayinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To conciliate, console; to entreat, beg. ఓదార్చు, అడుగుకొను, మంచిమాటలాడు.

(p. 55) anunāsika anu-nāsika. [Skt.] n. Uttered through the nose. In gram. the letter n.

(p. 61) anvitamu anvitamu. [Skt.] adj. Connected, యుక్తమైన, చేరిన, మిళితమైన. ఈ వాక్యము అనన్వితముగానున్నది this is a broken phrase. అన్వితుడు n. He who possesses a thing. సకలసుగుణాన్వితుడు he who is possessed of all virtues.
