(p. 22) akṣauhiṇi akshauhiṇi. [Skt. The anikini (అనికిని) consists of 27 vahinis (వాహినులు.) and 27 being the cube aksha (అక్ష) of 3, it is probable that akshauhini is a compound of aksha and vāhini. The plant called Ceylon lead-wort. Plumbago Ẕelanica. చిత్రమూలము. అగ్నివేండపాకు ammannia baccifera or blistering Ammannia (Watts) అగ్ని శిఖ. a flame of fire. Also a plant (Gloriosa superba) తరిగొర్రెచెట్టు, కుంకుమపువ్వు చెట్టు the Saf-flower plant. అగ్నిహోత్రము fire. అగ్నిహోత్రుడు the god of fire. అగ్నిహోత్రాలు కాల్చుచున్నాడు or చేయుచున్నాడు colloquial for 'he is smoking.'

(p. 33) aṭṭuka aṭṭuka [Tel.] n. A loft under the roof of a house, like a shelf. సామానులు ఉంచుటకై ఉండేటిది. 'పథికుండుండెడు నట్టు కపై.' S. iii. 179. A garret. Same as అటక.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 38) aḍḍādiḍḍi aḍḍā-diḍḍi. [Tel.] adj. Froward, perverse. అక్రమమైన, నన్ను అడ్డాదిడ్డిపనులకు పంపుతాడు he employs me on idle jobs. అడ్డాదిడ్డిమాటలు ఆడబోకు do not speak perversely.

(p. 55) anulakṣitamu an-upalakshitamu. [Skt.] adj. Unseen, unobserved, unnoticed.

(p. 57) anulāpamu anu-lāpamu. [Skt.] n. Repetition. ఆడినమాటే అడడము, పునరుక్తి. అనులాపించు v. a. To repeat the same words. చెప్పిన మాటలనే మళ్లీ చెప్పుట.

(p. 57) anulēpanamu anu-lēpanamu. [Skt.] n. Smearing; daubing the body with unguents. పూత, గంధాదుల యొక్క మైపూత.

(p. 91) alluḍu alluḍu. [Tel. from అల్లు lit. one who plaits, i.e., who is the means by which the family circle is enlarged.] n. A son-in-law. జామాత, మేనల్లుడు the son of a man's sister, or of a woman's brother. అల్లుడుకొమాళ్లు n. plu. Foster brothers or vassals, who feed at the baron's table and form his body-guard. దొరతోదొరగా భోజనము చేసి అతనికి అంగరక్షకులుగా నుండేవారు. అల్లువాడు n. A son-in-law. అల్లుడు, జామాత. A slight or superficial wound, a slight graze or wound. స్వల్పగాయము. అసిధారావ్రతము asī-dhāra-vratamu a vow to stand on the edge of a sword; (figuratively) being engaged in any hopelessly difficult task. అసిధేను or అసిధేనుక or అసిపుత్రి asidhēnu. n.
