(p. 124) ālamu ālamu. [Tel.] n. War, battle. Plague, trouble, oppression; పోరు, జగడము. Disregard, scorn, despite. ఆలక్ష్యము, వ్యర్థము. 'అనిపలుకు నమ్మరాశలోలనయన పలుకులాలం బుచేసి చక్రవాకి యిట్లనియె.' Swa. vi. 72.

(p. 147) u u. [Tel. In common writing the vowel ఉ is shaped like ర. Compare with this the Kanarese ఉ and the Skt. ఉ and Eng. U and W, all having the same origin.] The vowel U, as sounded in put, as in oo foot. Many Telugu words use A or U at pleasure: particularly in the second syllable, thus: వాలుగ or వాలగ, పరచు or పరుచు, కరగు or వరస or వరుస, అటక or అటుక, తరము or తరుము, పలకరించు or పలుకరించు. If one of these forms does not occur we must look for the word the other spelling.

(p. 155) uttaruḍu uttaruḍu. [Skt.] n. Name of the son of Virāṭa (See Bhārata). ఉత్తరకుమార ప్రజ్ఞలు vain bragging like that of ఉత్తరుడు. ఉత్తరకుమార ప్రజ్ఞలు పలుకువాడు he is a mere braggart.

(p. 183) eggu eggu. [Tel.] n. Harm, injury, కీడు, అపవాదము. Shame, disgrace. అనాదరము, దూషణము. Abuse or evil word కీడుమాట. Fault, sin అపరాధము, దోషము. To speak against, to oppose. మారాడు. ఎదురీదు to swim against, to resist. ఎదురుకట్టుల or ఎదురుకట్ల eduru-kaṭṭula. adv. In front ఎదుట. ఎదురుకుత్తుక eduru-kuttuka. n. The lock jaw. ఎదురుకొను or ఎదుర్కొను eduru-konu. v. n. & a. To go forward to meet. To act against, to disobey. ఎదురగు, ఎదిరించు. ఎదురుకోలు or ఎదుర్కోలు edur-kōlu. n. The mutual advances of the relations of the bride and bridegroom during the marriage. Going forward to welcome a guest. ఎదురుగడ eduru-gaḍa. n. To be melodious. శృంగారముగా కుదులు. పారావతంబకులికెడి పలుకులు the melodious notes of the dove. కులుకుపువ్వులు beautiful flowers. ఏమికులుకుతుంది how pretty she is! కరుణారసము కులుకుకన్నులు eyes beaming with kindness, or bright with affection. కులికిన pert, saucy. కులుకు v. a. To move, or shake. To rub over. ఫుయు. To pour or sprinkle పోయు, వేయు. n. Grace, elegance, charm, loveliness. Harmony in music, శృంగారచేష్ట, శృంగారపుకుదిలిక, ఒయ్యారము, విలాసము, కులుకులాడి a belle, a pretty woman ఒయ్యారకత్తె. కులుకు adj. Fine, pretty, graceful, Harmonious, melodious. సొగసైన.

(p. 308) keralu keralu. [Tel.] n. To be enraged, to cry out from alarm. కోపించు, రేగు, బొబ్బలిడు. To exceed అతిశయించు, విజృంభించు. To cry as a bird. కూయు. 'గీ ప్రమదమునదేటు లెలుగెత్తిపాడుచోట, శారికలనంగశాస్త్రముల్ చదువుచోట, గీరకలకంఠములు క్రొవ్వికెరలుచోట, బావురములారజంబులుపలుకుచోట.' స్వా. iii.

(p. 420) cilaka or చిలుక chilaka. n. [Tel.] n. A parrot. ముద్దులచిలక my darling! my pet! చిలకపలుకులు Sweet accents. తెల్లచిలక a cockatoo. పంచరంగుచిలక the maccaw. మైనాచిలక the maina. పుట్టలచిలక or అడివిచిలక the Sirkeer Cuckoo. Jerdon. No. 230. రామచిలక. The Rose-ringed Paroquet, Palaeornis torquatus (so called because taught to reiterate the name of Rāma.) అకుచిలక the Western Blossom-headed Paroquet, Palacornis cyanōecphalus. The name is given to some insects, as a moth, thus, ఆకుచిలక, వడ్లచిలక a moth. గడ్డిచిలక, సీతాకోకచిలక a butterfly. A padlock. The bolt or hasp of a door, because these originally had parrot's heads on them. చిలుకల కొలికి a bright-eyed girl or woman. చక్కని స్త్రీ. చిలకకూర or చిలకతోటకూర chilaka-kūra. n. A kind of pot-herb, Amarantus fasciatus. (Watts.) చిలక, చిలకట or చిలుకడ chilaka. n. A saddle buckle: a ring at the end of the rope used as a girth of the bullock saddle through which the other end is passed to fasten the saddle. కొలికిముడి. చిలకడతాడు chilakada-tāḍu. n. A girth. ఎద్దుమీదికందళము, గంతబిగించేతాడు. చిలకకొయ్య or చిలుకకొయ్య chilaka-koyya. n. A wooden pin fixed in the wall, on which articles are suspended. చిలగడ chilagaḍa. (చిలుక+గడ.) n. The cord that fastens a dagger, to prevent its falling out of the sheath. చిలకతాళము chilaka-tāḷamu. n. A padlock. చిలకతాళి or చిలుకతాళి chilaka-tāḷi. n. A gold buckle in the form of a pair of parrots. చిలుకదుదుడి chilaka-duduḍi. n. The name of a certain tree. చిలకపచ్చ chilaka-paṭsṭsa. n. Bright green, parrot green. చిలకమొక్క or చిలకముక్కు chilaka-mokka. n. (lit. Parrot's bill.) A plant called crotolaria. శుకాననము, శుకనాస. Heyne, 130. The purple red and white scentless flower called Balsam. చిలకరౌతు chilaka-rautu. n. Lit: He whose steed is the parrot: an epithet of మన్మథ the god of love. చిలుక కోణము chiluka-kōṃamu. n. A 'T bandage,' or clout.

(p. 449) cuccuruku ṭsuṭsṭs-uruku. [Tel. చురుకు+చురుకు] adj. Very sharp. మిక్కిలి తీక్ష్ణమగు. చుచురుకు పలుకులు very sharp or bitter words.
