(p. 16) ampakāḍu ampakāḍu. [Tel. from అమ్ము.] n. One who carries an arrow విల్లుచేతబట్టిన వాడు, ధానుష్కుడు. A marks man, a skilful archer. గురితప్పక అమ్మువేయువాడు, కృతహస్తుడు. 'హదనువచ్చుదాకనపరాధిపైరోష 'మాగిహదనుగన్నడనపవలయు లక్ష్యసిద్ధిదాకలావునశరమాగి కాడవిడుచునంపకాడుపోలె.' Amuk. iv.

(p. 162) upama upama. [Skt.] n. A resemblance, a simile. Also, skill నేర్పు. ఉపమరి upamari. adj. Clever, ready at expedients. ఉపమానము upamānamu. n. A comparison, simile. The object to which a thing is compared. ఉపమించు upa-minṭsu. v. a. To compare. పోల్చు. ఉపమేయము upa-mēyamu. n. The object which is compared to another. The antitype or thing meant in a parable or comparison. ఇక్కడ ఇది ఉపమానము, దీనిని పట్టి ఉపమేయమును గ్రహింపవలసినది here we must understand the thing meant from the figure the poet uses.

(p. 345) g ga. [Tel. & Skt. formed from the shape of the legs in walking.] The letter G as in great. Some Telugu words at pleasure change the letter G into V. Thus పగలు or పవలు, తీగ or తీవ. So in English, thus: guile and wile; gate and way; guard and ward; guise, and wise.

(p. 575) daṇḍamu danḍamu. [Tel.] n. A bow, a salutation made by joining the palms of the hands in front of the breast. నమస్కారము. Respects, obeisance. Remembrance. or compliments in correspondence దండముపెట్టు to make a bow or courtesy, to make obeisance, to adore. ఆయనకు నా దండములు చెప్పవలసినది please to give him my compliments. దండము danḍamu. [Skt.] n. A rod, stick or staff, దుడ్డుకర్ర. The stem of a plant. Chastisement either by killing a person, or by confiscating his property or by oppressing him in other ways, punishment, a fine. చతురుపాయములలో నొకటి, రాజశిక్ష. An army. దండు. A multitude. సమూహము. దండన or దండనము danḍana. Punishment. దండనాయకుడు danḍa-nāyakụḍu. n. A leader of an army. సేనాధిపతి. చందనీతి danḍa-nīti. n. Politics: the principles of government. నీతిశాస్త్రము. దండయాత్ర danḍa-yātra. n. An invasion, an incursion, a campaign, going with troops or in procession. యుద్ధయాత్ర, దిగ్విజయము. దండలాసకము danḍa-lāsakamu. n. (p. 597) dīpamu dīpamu. [Skt.] n. A lamp a light. దీపముపెట్టు dīpamu-peṭṭu. v. n. To light a lamp. Metaphorically, to sustain a man's household. Also, to offer prayers for blessing on a benefactor: thus, తమ పాదాలకు దీపము పెట్టుకొంటాను. (Lit.) I will light a candle (in the chapel) to thy feet, i.e., I will offer thee worship of thankfulness. దీపకము dīpakamu. n. A light దీపము. adj. That which burns. వెలిగించునది. Omum seeds, ఓమము, వాము. Also. used for దీమము. (q. v.) దీపవల్లి dīpa-ralli. n. The wick of a lamp. దీపపువత్తి. దీపవృక్షము dīpa-vriksḥamu. n. A candelabrum, al lamp-stand. దీపస్తంభము. దీపారాధన dīp-ārādhana. n. The rite of offering a light to a god. The lighting up lamps at a shrine. దీపావళి (దీప+ఆవలి.) dīp-āvali. n. Lit: A row of lights, i.e., A feast held on the 14th day of the dark fortnight (bahula) in Aswayuja (answering to Oct. Nov.) wherein is commemorated the నరకాసురవధ. దీపించు. dīp-inṭsu. v. n. To shine, to be evident. to be distinguished or glorious. దీపిక dīpika. n. A lamp, a light. దీపము. ఆంధ్ర దీపిక the Lamp of Telugu, the name of a Telugu Dictionary. నీతిదీపిక lit. 'The lamp of Morals.' దీప్తి dīpti. n. Lustre. brilliancy. కాంతి, వెలుగు. దీప్యము dip-yamu. n. Cummin seed. ఓమము, జీలకర్ర.

The wedge like part of a plough, నాగలిగొడగ. దుంపకూర any edible root. దుంపవలెనున్నాడు he is very strong. బంగాళాదుంపలు or సీమదుంపలు potatoes. దుంపనాగు dumpa-ṇāgu. n. A sort of snake. G. viii. 101. దుంపనాశనము dumpa-nāṣanamu. n. Total ruin, eradication. వానిని దుంపనాశనము చేసినాడు he ruined him root and branch. దుంపబచ్చలి a kind of plant, a species of బచ్చలి (q. v.) Basella rubra or lucida. ఉపోదకి. దుంపరాష్ట్రము or పెద్దదుంపరాష్ట్రము the Rhizome the Greater Galangal, or Jāva Galangal, Alpinia galanga. సన్న దుంపరాష్ట్రము the Lesser Galangal, Aplinia Officinarum. (p. 692) pagalu or పవలు pagalu. [Tel.] n. Day-time. Day. అహస్సు. (Adverbially) by day, in the day time. రాత్రింబగలు day and night. పగటిమీదను అక్కడినుండి తర్లితిమి we set out in the afternoon. పగటివేలుపు pagativēlupu. n. The god of the day, i.e., the sun. పట్టపగలు paṭṭa-pagalu. [పగలు+పగలు.] n. Broad day. adv. In full daylight. పగలువత్తి pagalu-vatti. n. The fire work called a blue light or Roman candle. మతాబు. (p. 705) padaru or పదురు padaru. v. n. To be over hasty, to be precipitate. ఆత్రపడు. To speak hastily, ఆత్రముతో మాట్లాడు. To get angry, కోపించు. To shake, చలించు. v. a. An adopted son. పుత్రి or పుత్రిక putri. n. A duaghter. A copy or transcript from an original. పుత్రవాత్సల్యము parental affection, love towards children. పుత్రోత్సవము putr-ōṭsavamu. n. To exceed, మీరు. To come upon (with hostile intent) మీదికి వచ్చు. To get upon, mount, on attack and overcome. కవియు. To attempt, యత్నించు. To happen, కలుగు. పైకొలుపు pai-kolupu. To exceed మీరు ఆ గుర్రమునకు అందరును పైబడుచున్నారు all of them are contending for the horse. M. x. i. 145. పైపాటు pai-pāṭu. n. An attack or encounter, కవియుట. పైపైగా pai-pai-gā. adv. Easily, superficially, cursorily, సులభముగా. పైయెద్దు or పైవన్నెయెద్దు pai-y-eddu. n. An ox with the belly alone white, called a sheeted ox. పైవిలాసము pai-vilāsamu. n.
