(p. 127) āśa āṣa. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, desire, wish, hope, passion, inclination, curiosity, avarice. ఆశాపాశము or ఆశాబంధము the chain of our lusts, fleshly ties. ఆశకొలుపు āsa-kolupu. v. t. To cause to desire, to allure, tempt, incite, encourage, to hold out prospects. ఆశపడు āṣa-paḍu. To desire, covet, long for. ఆశాపాతకుడు āṣā-pātakuḍu. n. A covetous man. ఆసపెట్టు āṣa-peṭṭu. To raise hopes or expectations, give hopes, tantalize. ఆశాబంధము āṣā-bandhamu. n. The bond of love or desire.

(p. 309) kēṭatrāḍu kēṭa-trāḍu. [Tel.] n. A rope of Yama's యమపాశము. 'క. పితరదొరికేటత్రాటన్ బతనంబునదివియ.' నిలా. i. కేటకప్పీ kēṭi-kappī. n. A block; a kind of pulley. ఒక విధమైన కప్పీ.

(p. 367) giṭṭu giṭṭu. [Tel.] v. n. To die, expire. చచ్చు, నశించు. 'పుట్టిరేని వారుగిట్టిరేని' what though they be born, what though they die (Vēma). To suit, agree, match or meet, to be met. అనుకూలించు. to gnash. వాడికి పండ్లుగిట్టుకొనిపోయినవి his teeth were set in agony. వానికిని నాకును గిట్టదు he and I do not agree. నాకు గిట్టనివారు those who hate me, my ill wishers. ధరగిట్టక not agreeing on a price. అది నాకు గిట్టదు I do not like it, I cannot endure it. గిట్టీగిట్టక ఉన్నారు they are hardly on good terms. గిట్టని unsuitable. గిట్టమి disagreement, enmity. గిట్టమితనము spitefulness. v. a. To attack, meet with; లేండ్లగమిగిట్టుకోల్పులి the tiger that attacks the deer. M. 9. 1. 260. కలియు, కదియు, పైపడు, తాకు, పొదుపుకొను. 'శక్తిదండకృపాణ పాశములు నీటెగదయు శూలముగొని నిశాచరుని గిట్టి' T. v. 111. గిట్టుబడి or గిట్టింపు giṭṭubaḍi. n. Profit (in trade): in demand. గిట్టింపైన సరుకులు goods that are profitable to the seller, good articles.

(p. 558) toḍa toḍa. [Tel.] n. The thigh. తొడమీద ఉంచు to place on the lap. పెందొడ the thicker part of the thigh. చిరుదొడ the thinner part of the thigh. తొడమాంసము. a leg of mutton. తొడపుట్టువు lit: one born from the thigh, i.e., a Vaisya. తొడపాశము or తొడబెల్లము toḍa-pāṣamu. n. Pinching the thigh. తొడనుగిల్లుట.

(p. 641) nāgamu nāgamu. [Skt. from నగ a hill.] n. Lit: That which pertains to a mountain. A serpent, పాము. Particularly, a cobra. An elephant, ఏనుగు. Various species of పాములు are called కంపునాగము, చింత N. దుంప N. పీత N. శంకు N. జొన్న N. కృష్ణ N. కోడె. N. adj. Large, పెద్ద. When used as the second part of compound, (సమాసము) it means Excellent. శ్రేష్ఠము. నాగకంకణుడు nāga-kankanuḍu. n. Siva who wears a 'bracelet of snakes.' నాగకేసరము nāga-kēsaramu. n. The small tree termed Mesua ferra. Rox. ii. 605. నాగగన్నేరు a large species of Oleander. నాగగొలంగ nāga-golanga. n. A plant called Murraya exolica. Rox. ii. 374. నాగజెముడు nāga-jemuḍu. n. A kind of cactus or prickly pear. నాగతాళి nāga-tāli. n. The plant called the prickly pear, Cactus indicus. Rox. ii. 474. Ains. ii. 217. నాగదంతి nāga-danti. n. A plant called కుంజర or నాగస్ఫోటము. నాగపడిగలు nāga-paḍigalu. n. Earrings in the shape of the expanded head of the cobra de capella. నాగపడిగలదండ a necklace. నాగపాశము nāga-pāṣamu. n. The serpentine weapon of Varuna. Nooses twining like serpents. W. on Vish. P. 140. నాగబంధము nāga-bandhamu. n. The serpent's embrace, i.e., both wound together in an upright position as shown in various sculptures. అభినయసంయుత హస్తభేదము. నాగబెత్తము nāga-bettamu. n. A cane with a metal tip at the end. నాగమళ్లె nāga-malle. n. The prickly pear; the plant named Justicia nasuta, అష్టపత్రిక. Rox. i. 120. నాగలోకము nāga-lōkamu. n. Lit: The serpent world, i.e., the nether world, పాతాళము. నాగవాసము nāga-vāsamu. n. The subterranean world of Nagas or fairies, నాగలోకము. A staple or a ring for a hasp, because shaped like a snake's head. తలుపుగొళ్లెముబైట తగిలించేది. The iron stays that diverge from the poles of a palanquin. A dancing house or theatre; a set of dancing girls, a troop of strolling players, నాట్యశాల. వేశ్యలమేళము. నాగస్వరము or నాగసరము nāga-svaramu. n. A hautboy, a kind of clarionet. A pipe used by snake players, పాములవాడు ఊదు బుర్ర. నాగాంతకుడు nāg-āntakuḍu. n. Lit: The killer of serpents, i.e., the eagle, గరుత్మంతుడు. నాగాననుడు nāgānanuḍu. n. Lit: 'Elephant faced', an epithet of Gaṇēsa. నాగు, నాగులు, నాగువు or నాగుబాము nāgu. n. A cobra. నాగము. నాగులుచీర a sort of petticoat woven with red stripes. నాగులచవితి nāgula-ṭsaviti. n. A festival devoted to serpent worship, held in the month of భాద్రపదము. నాగేంద్రుడు nāgēndruḍu. n. The kind of the Naga fairies.

(p. 749) pāśamu pāṣamu. [Skt.] n. A cord, తాడు. Metaphorically, a check, a tie, a bond or instrument of curbing. A multitude. సమూహము. కేశపాశము much (or flowing) hair. ధర్మపాశము the ties of rectitude. పాపపాశము the bond of iniquity. ఛత్రపాశము a shabby umbrella, a mere stick of an umbrella, an apology for an umbrella. కర్ణపాశము a strikingly beautiful ear. మృత్యుపాశములు the bonds of death. పాశాష్టకము the eight ties: i.e., the attachment a man has to his wife, child, wealth, cattle, conveyance, land, house and friend. పాశముక్తుడు freed from all earthly ties.

(p. 1142) valle or వల్లియ valle. [Tel.] A noosed rope: a noose for catching cattle. పోవుచున్న యెద్దును కొమ్ములకువేసి పట్టుకొనే త్రాడు. పాశము. The noose of Varuṇa. 'వచ్చిమాయున్నపొలమెలల్ల వల్లెవైచుచుందమున జుట్టుకొనిన.' P. ii. 205. టీ వల్లెవైచుచందమున, వల్లెత్రాడువేసినట్టువలెనే. Repetition, చెప్పినది మరల మరల చెప్పుట. adv. Yes. సరే. 'క వల్లెయనిరాజనందను, లెల్ల నుసమకట్టి.' భార. అది. iii. వల్లెతాలుపు, వల్లెతాల్పు an epithet of Varuṇa, వరుణుడు, వల్లెవాటు or వలెవాటు valle-vāṭu. n. A scarf, a term for the upper garment, if gracefully arranged round the neck. సొగసుగావేసికొన్నఉత్తరీయము, వల్లెయొక్కవాటువంటివాటు.
