(p. 126) āvāsamu ā-vāsamu. [Skt.] n. A house. పురుగులకు రత్నకంబళ్లు ఆవాసమగును Woollens harbour insects.

(p. 316) koṭṭu koṭṭu. [Tel.] v. n. To strike. గంట కొట్టినది the clock has struck. గాలి కొట్టుచున్నది the wind is blowing. కంపు కొట్టినది it smells badly. కొల్లగొట్టినాడు he plundered. పిడుగు ఆ చెట్టును చీలగొట్టినది the thunder bolt struck and split the tree. దాన్ని పురుగులుకొట్టినవి insects have attacked it. వానికి ముఖము కొట్టినది he is surfeited or gorged. వానకొట్టినది there was rain. వానికి ఎండకొట్టినది he was exposed to the sun. కొట్టినపిండి a well bruised flour, -- a phrase implying thorough knowledge of any subject. వానికి రామాయణము కొట్టినపిండి he is thoroughly acquainted with the Rāmāyaṇa. 'కోమలినాకునెట్టియెడ కొట్టినపిండి సమస్తలలోకముల్ నీమదికింపులైనయవి నిర్భరశక్తినిదేసమర్థుడన్.' KP. vi. 30.

(p. 381) gula or గులగుల gula. [Tel.] n. An itching sensation, జిల, గులకరించు gulakarintsu. v. n. To be pleasant. రమ్యమగు. గులగులలు pieces, dust, powder నజుగుజులు, తుత్తుమురు, చూర్ణము. ఆ పుంటిలో పురుగులు గులగులాడుచున్నవి the worms are crawling about in the wound. Manu. iv. 49.

(p. 537) tuṭṭe tuṭṭe. [Tel.] n. Trash, odds and ends, stuff, rubbish. A lump ఉండ. A cluster గుంపు, సమూహము. ఈ పిండి తుట్టెకట్టిపోయినది this meal has run into lumps. తుట్టె తోడిచిరివేరు rough chay root that is uncleaned. See తుట్ట. తుట్టెపురుగు tuṭṭe-purugu. n. A sort of venomous snake barred black and grey. 'ఈ తుట్టెపురుగులేమగు నీతేజీవచ్చినపుడు.' రామా. viii.

(p. 671) nuli nuli. [Tel.] n. A twist, a tangle. మెలి. A griping or gnawing pain in the stomach. పేగులలోనొప్పి. వానికి నులిపెట్టినది he had the gripes. నులిపురుగులు worms in the bowels. adj. Gentle, slight. Small, స్వల్పమైన, అల్పము. Thus నులికాలువ A small stream. A. ii. 72. vi. 17. నులివెచ్చగా slightly warm, lukewarm. నులినొప్పి a slight griping pain, నులివాళ్లు nuli-vāḷḷu. n. A slight withering. కొంచెము వాడిపోవుటలు. నులివాళ్లువాడు to wither slightly, కొంచెమువాడు. నులిగొను nuli-gonu. v. n. To be twisted, to be tangled. చిక్కుపడు. నులిపెట్టు nuli-peṭṭu. v. a. To twist. మెలిపెట్టు, చిక్కుపెట్టు. నులిగడ or నులితడ nuligaḍa. n. A medicinal plant, having a capsule consisting of fine fibres twisted in the form of a screw, Helicteres idora. Linn, ఆవర్తని. నులియు or నులివు nuliyu. v. n. To move about, to shake, to tremble. చలించు. ఇట్టట్టుతొలగు. To be reduced to powder, to be crushed or powdered, పొడియగు, నలియు, నలుగు. To ring, sound, tinkle. 'తే కామనులియంగ కంకణక్వణనమొలయ.' చంద్రహాసవిలాసము. i. 896. నులించు nulinṭsu. v. a. To crush, to cause to be powdered. నులియజేయు, నులుచు. నులుచు or నులుపు nuluṭsu. v. a. To tread out, corn with oxen, to thrash corn, నులియజేయు, నులుగు nulugu. v. n. To be crushed, ground, trodden. నలుగు.

(p. 672) nusi nusi. [Tel.] n. Powder, dust made by insects. నుసిరాలుకొయ్య pithless dry wood, touchwood. నుసిపురుగులు book worms, insects that perforate timber. adj. Little, petty, trifling, అల్పము.

(p. 681) nēyu nēyu. [Tel.] v. a. To weave, as a cloth, అల్లు మంచమునేయు to lace a bed. గడ్డినేయు to lay thatch on a roof. ఇంటికి ఆ గడ్డి నేయించను he thatched his house with that grass. గడ్డినేసిన thatched. నేయించు nēyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to be woven. అతనిచేత రెండుగుడ్డలు నేయించినాను. I made him weave two cloths. నేత nēta. n. Weaving, texture. నేయుట. నేతలు fine long cloth, సన్నబారచావులు. కవిక. iii. నేతకాడు or నేతరి nēta-kāḍu. n. A weaver. నేతపలక nēta-palaka. n. A plank or board every now and then used by a weaver in arranging the wrap and the woof evenly. నేతపురుగు nētapurugu. n. A spider. 'పురహరునకు నేత పురుగులు పూజచేసి స్థిరమైన సుజ్ఙానజీవమాయె.' Vēma. iii. 159.

(p. 701) paḍu paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To feel, To fall, పతనమగు, రాలు. To lie down, శయనించు. To be, to occur, or happen, సంభవించు, కలుగు. To be caught in a snare. To suffer pain, శ్రమమొందు. To be killed in battle. చచ్చు. To be buried, as money, పూడు. To set, అస్తమించు. v. a. To experience, అనుభవించు. To incur, undergo, enjoy, feel, పొందు. నేను పడిన బాధ నాకే తెలుసును I alone know what I have suffered. Added to nouns it forms them into verbs. సమ్మతిపడు to agree. సంతోషపడు to be pleased. సంతాపపడు to feel sorry. చింతపడు to be anxious. తిట్లుపడు to be reviled. తొందరపడు to be in distress. భయపడు to fear. మానుపడు to be stunned. వానికి నక్కిళ్లు పడినవి he has the lockjaw. It may be added in a similar way to past participles. ఉలికిపడు to start. తూగిపడు to slumber. It is also added to adjectives or verbs. ఎర్రపడు to redden, blush or turn red. వేరుపడు to be separated. ఏర్పడు to become. It may even be added to an interjection, కటకటపడు to cry Alas, to pity. తహతహపడు to be in trouble. ఆ యిల్లు పడినది that house is fallen in. ఆ వలలో నాలుగు పక్షులు పడినవి four birds were caught in the snare. అక్కడ ఒక పల్లము పడినది a hollow has formed there. ఆ యుద్ధములో నలుగురు పడినారు or పడిపోయినాడు four persons were killed in the battle. వానికి బంకపడుచున్నది he passes slime or mucus. వానికి పురుగులు పడినవి he passed worms. వానికి కుడిచెయ్యి పడినది his right hand has become paralysed. వారు వెనుకపడినారు they fell back, they retired. ఆ మతములో పడినాడు he embraced that religion. పేరుపడన renowned, celebrated, notorious. తటస్థపడినప్పుడు when an opportunity occurs. మరుగుపడినారు they went out of sight. నాకు వచ్చిన ఆపదకు వాడు అడ్డపడినాడు he stood in the way of the misfortune that happened to me. వారిద్దరికిని పడదు they do not agree, they are on bad terms. దానినోటిలో పడకుము do not put it in her power to abuse you. ఆ బావిలో మంచినీళ్లు పడినవి sweet water broke forth in the well. వానితో పడలేను I cannot get on with him. నాకు ఇప్పుడు పోవడము పడదు I cannot go now. ఇంకా విత్తనము పడలేదు the seed is not yet sown. ఆ చేనిలో అడ్డముగా పడి వారిపోయినాడు he ran away across the field. ఆ యిల్లు ఊరికె పడియున్నది that house is unoccupied. ఆ రూకలు ఊరిక పడియున్నవి that money is untouched, it is lying idle. ఆ సంసారము నా నెత్తిని పడినది that family is now left on my hands. ఆ నష్టము నా తలమిద పడినది I incurred that loss. Added to the root in A it forms the passive voice, thus కొట్టపడు to be beaten; చూడబడు to be seen. It is added at pleasure to some adverbs, thus బోర్లపడిన prostrate. తలక్రిందులుపడు to be topsy turvy, upside down, to be conceited. అది బయటపడినది it came to light. The causal form is పరుచు or పరచు. తొందరపరచు to trouble, torment. పడగొట్టు paḍa-goṭṭu. v. a. To knock down. పడదన్ను paḍa-dannu. v. a. To kick down. పడదొక్కు paḍa-lokku. v. a. To tread down. పడదోయు paḍa-dōya. v. a. To thrust down, knock down. పడవేయు paḍa-vēyu. v. a. To cast or throw down. పడిపోవు paḍi-pōvu. v. n. To fall down, to die. ఆయన పడిపోయిన తర్వాత after his decease. పడుకొను paḍu-konu. v. n. To lie down, recline. పడువ paḍuva. n. A very low place. మిక్కిలి పల్లమైనచోటు. పడువరి paḍu-vari. (పడు+వరి.) n. A crop or sprouts produced by seeds of paddy, that fall by chance as the crops are cut. పడ్డ paḍḍa. [contr. for పడిన.] pp. Fallen, &c., thus, పిలువబడ్డవాడు the man who was called. ఉంచబడ్డవాడు he who was kept there.

(p. 988) milamila mila-mila. [Tel.] n. Glittering, sparkling. మెరుగుకాంతి. మిలమిలలాడు mila-milal-āḍu. v. n. To glitter sparkle. To abound, swarm, be rife. ఆకలిచేత మిలమిల లాడుచున్నారు they are exhausted with hunger. ఆ నీళ్లలో చేపలు మిలమిలలాడుచున్నవి fihses are swarming or are abundant in that water. మిలమిలన mila-milana. adv. Wrigglingly. మెదలుచు. 'సంజనితములైపురుగులు, వేకొనమిలమిలమెదలునందు గురుకుల ముఖ్యా.' M. XVI. i. 27.

(p. 995) mukku or ముకు mukku. [Tel.] n. The nose. నాసిక. The bill or beak of a bird, పక్షిముఖము. The point or tip. చనుముక్కు a nipple. ముక్కు౛ోడనలు a double nose. ౛మిలిముక్కు. 'మునవనల్ దమిబట్టి ముంగాళ్ల ముక్కుజోడనలచీలిచి.' A. v. 122. ముక్కుడుస్సిన uncurbed, broken loose, rampant, ముక్కుతాడుతీసిన. 'వసుధేశముక్కుడుస్సిన పసరముక్రియ.' A. vi. 53. ముక్కుబంటి యైనదనుక satiating his nostrils with fragrance to the full. P. iii. 224. చిలుకముక్కులు and జీనువముక్కులు two sorts of grain. రెండుముక్కులపిట్ట (the double beaked bird) also called మూడు ముక్కలపిక్క and ఎబ్బెరపిక్క the Hornbill, or Toucan. Jerdon. No. 198. 'ముండగోష్ఠికి ముక్కు మొగమేడతనకు.' HD. ii. 1059. ముక్కు మొగము ఎగనట్టు మాట్లాడినాడు he talked as if I was a perfect stranger to him. ముక్కుపట్టనిముత్తెము a pearl not suited to the nose, i.e., a round man in a square hole. ముక్కుకమ్మిక a certain useless forest tree. ముక్కు mukku. v. n. To moan, groan. To mould or turn musty. To spoil or become half rotten. To strain or press, (as in pain.) ముక్క mukka. (Root in A of ముక్కు to be musty or mouldy, &c.) ముక్కపురుగులు weevils in spoilt grain, తవుటిపురుగులు. ముక్కకంపు a frowzy smell. తర్వాత తొండూరిగ్రామము ముక్క ఉరికినందున ఆ నెత్తము విరిచిరి a disease has appeared which is peculiar to that place. ముత్యాలు ముక్కిపోయినవి the pearls were spoiled. ముక్కుగోళ్లు, ముకుగోళ్లు, ముకుగ్రోళ్లు, ముక్కు జెరములు, ముక్కుచెరములు or ముక్కురంధ్రములు mukkugōḷḷu. n. plu. The nostrils. నాసాపుటములు. ముక్కుత్రాడు or ముకుత్రాడు a nose-rope used for curbing oxen. ముక్కుదొమ్మ or ముకుదొమ్మ mukku-domma. n. A sort of fish. H. iv. 225. ముక్కద్దము mukk-addamu. n. A pair of spectacles, సులోచనము, కంటిఅద్ధము. ముక్కమ్మి or ముక్కుకమ్మి muk-kammi. (ముక్కు + కమ్మి.) or ముక్కర mukka-ra. (ముక్కు + రాయి.) n. A nose ring. నాసాభరణము. ముక్కరమాను mukkara-mānu. n. The frame in which the roller (పుల్లిరుసు) of a కపిల well rolls. ముక్కరము muk-ka-ramu. (ముక్కు + కారెము.) n. A nostril, నాసికారంధ్రము. ముక్కిడి mukkiḍi (ముక్కు + ఇడి) adj. Noseless. ముక్కులేని. ముక్కిడిరోగము caries of the bones of the nose. 'ముక్కిడి తొత్తుకు ముత్తెంపునత్తేల.' రామలింగశతకము. ముక్కిడి or కొండముక్కిడి. n. A certain large tree, Schrebera swietenoides. Rox. i. 109. ముక్కుదూలము or ముకుదూలము mukku-dūlam. n. The bridge or division of the nose. ముక్కునడిమియెముక. ముక్కుపురిడి or ముక్కుపూరేడుపిట్ట mukku-puriḍi. n. The common snipe. (Jerdon.) ఒకపక్షి. ముక్కుపొడి mukku-poḍi. n. Snuff. నస్యము, పొడుము. ముక్కుపోగు mukku-pōgu. n. A nose ring, ముక్కుమ్మి, నత్తు, ముక్కుబంతి or ముకుబంతి mukku-banti. n. A disease that attacks the nose of a cow through cold. ముక్కుముంగర mukku-mungara. n. A certain useless forest tree. ముక్కులు mukkulu. n. Rice flour. మిక్కిలి చిన్ననూకలు. A kind of cake.

(p. 1042) molacu , మొలుచు or మొల్చు molaṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To sprout, germinate, vegetate, grow. To rise, to appear, as a star. మొలక, మొలవ or మొల్క molaka. [from మొలచు.] n. A germ, a sprout. అంకురము. The core, or centre of a boil. దుర్మాంసవిశేషము. Piles. ఆసనములోని మొలక. ఉపద్రవము. adj. Young, tender. లేత టెంకాయలోని మొలక a substance that rises like a knob in an overripe cocoanut. మొలకక్రొన్నెల the new moon. మొలకనవ్వు a budding smile, i.e., a gentle smile. ఆ వంశమునకు వాడొక మొలక ఉన్నాడు he is the only remaining individual or scion of that family. మొలకపండుగ a vernal festival, the feast of the sprouts. మొలకకట్టు molaka-kaṭṭu. v. a. To put moistened seeds into a basket to germinate with a view to sow them. మొలకెత్తు or మొలకయెత్తు molak-ettu. v. n. To sprout up, మొలచు. మొలకబంగారు molaka-bangāru. n. Fairy gold, supposed to grow in snake-holes, &c. పుట్టలలో పురుగులవల్ల పుట్టే బంగారు. మొలకకాయ molaka-kāya. n. A small kind of Egg plant. A kind of prickly Night shade, Solanum hirsutum. బృహతి. క్షుద్రవార్తాకి. నల్లమొలక్కాయ the black kind. తెల్లమొలక్కాయ the white kind. మొలవేయు molavēyu. v. a. To sow (corn), to cast seed in order to sprout, మొలిచేలాగువేయు, నాటు. మొలిపించు moli-pinṭsu. v. a. To cause to sprout. మొలిచేటట్టుచేయు. మొలతెంచు or మొలతేరు mola-tenṭsu. v. n. To sprout, shoot, grow. అంకురిమచు, పుట్టు, కలుగు. 'మొలతెంచు సంతోషమున దేలిరపుడు.' Dab. 299.

(p. 1167) viccu vitsṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To become open or loose, to burst asunder, as a ripe fruit, to be cracked, split or broken, to be dispersed. విరియు, వికసించు, వీడు, చీలు. 'మబ్బొకయించుకవిప్పవిచ్చుమొగ్గయి మరిపారిపోదురు సమస్తదిశాగతులైనయధ్వగుల్.' A. iv. 170. మొగ్గవిచ్చినది the bud opened. దండువిచ్చి యథాయథలైపోయినది the army broke up and every man went his way. ఆ గోడ విచ్చినది a crack has opened in the wall. ఆ కుండ విచ్చినది the pot cracked. మూసలో లోహముకరిగి కన్ను విచ్చి అడుగునప్పుడు when the melted metal looks quite clear. v. a. To open, loosen, unite, undo; to spread, expand. విరియజేయు, విడిపించు. దాని కొప్పువిచ్చినాడు he untied her knot of hair. కన్నువిచ్చు వారినని చూచినాడు he opened his eyes and looked at them. పాము పడగవిచ్చినది the snake spread or expanded its crest. 'మేడిపండుచూడ మేలిమైయుండును పొట్టవిచ్చి చూడ పురుగులుండు.' Vema. 174. విచ్చు viṭsṭsu. n. The act of being scattered or dispersed, చెల్లాచెదరగుట. adj. Scattered, scattering. చెల్లాచెదరైన. చెల్లా చెదరుచేయునట్టు. విచ్చుకత్తి viṭsṭsu-katti. n. A drawn sword, ఒరదూసినకత్తి. విచ్చుటాకు viṭsṭsu-ṭ-āku. n. A coloured palmyra leaf rolled up and put in the pierced ears of women, in order to widen the bore for an earring. చెవ్వాకు. విచ్చుమొగ్గ viṭsṭsu-mogga. n. An opening bud, విరియుమొగ్గ.

(p. 1379) svēdamu svēdanu. [Skt.] n. Sweat, perspiration, warmth, heat. ఘర్మము, చెమట, సాత్వికభావభేదము. 'చెక్కుల పైస్వేదముగ్రమ్మ.' N. ix. 365. స్వేదజములు svēda-jamulu. n. Worms, insects, maggots, mosquitos, &c., which are supposed to be engendered by heat and damp. క్రిమిదంశాదులు, ఉక్క చెమ్మ చేత పుట్టే పురుగులు, దోమలు మొదలైనవి. స్వేదనాళము a sweet duct. స్వేదరంధ్రములు pores of the skin. స్వేదోదకము svēd-ōdakamu. n.
