(p. 773) puli puli. [Tel.] n. A tiger. Felis tigris. (F.B.I.) పెద్దపులి. చిరుతపులి a cheetah, leopard or panther, Felis pardus. (F.B.I.) ఈగపులి the fly tiger, i.e., a spider. పులి౛ున్ను cheese of 'tiger's milk' equivalent to 'pigeon's milk' వాడు పెద్దపులి నలెమండిసాడు he was fierce, or, he acted in a many manner. పులిని చూచి నక్క వాత పెట్టుకొనినట్లు as a jackal brands itself to look like a tiger: a proverb meaning 'to ape another person.' పులికోచ puli-kōṭsa. n. The tarantula, a large venomous spider. పులిగోరు puli-gōru. A tiger's claw, used as the central ornament of a necklace. పులిచెవులాకు puli-chevul-āku. n. Tiger's ears; a certain medicinal plant. పులి౛ూదము puli-ḍzūdamu. A game like drafts. One sort is called గుమ్మడికాయపులి౛ూదము, because played with gourd seeds H. iv. 148. పులిటెంకి puli-ṭenki. n. A kind of fish. పులిపెంజెర puli-penjera. n. The snake called కాటుకరేకుపాము. పులిమెకము puli-mekamu. n. A certain fish, a species of Squalus or Tigrinus. Russell, plate. XVII. పులియడు puliyaḍu. n. A name given to a dog which looks like a tiger.

Acid, sour. పులికడుగు sour washings, i.e., water in which raw rice has been washed and is then left to ferment. పులికూడు food that has turned sour. పులికాపు puli-kāpu. n. A mixture of tamarinds in water with which copper or brass images are scoured. పులిగంజి sour gruel. పులిగడుగు puli-gaḍugu. v. a. To wash. (కడుగు) pearls, &c. in (పులి) acid, to restore their brilliancy To scour, burnish. 'నలువురిమును నీగతిమతి నిలుపుమహాత్ములకు నాత్మనిర్మలమగుచో, పులిగడిగినట్లురాగా, దులసంగతిచేతమున్ను దూషితమైనన్.' Prabōdha chandrōd. ii. 108. పులిగాయము puli-gāyamu. n. A scar. ఆరినమచ్చ, పుంటిమచ్చ. పులిచంచలము puli-chinṭsa-lamu. n. A medicinal plant. అగ్నిజిత్తు. పులిచింత or పులిచంచెలి puli-chinta. n. Yellow wood sorrel, Oxalis corniculata. Linn. Ainsl. ii.324. చుక్రిక. పులిచెలిక a fresh field, one lately left fallow. పులితేనుపు, పులితేన్పు, పులితేపు or పులిత్రేపు puli-tēnupu. n. Acid belching, అజీర్ణపుతేపు. పులినీళ్లు raw rank fluid, serum that oozes from a sore. పులిమెట్టు puli-meṭṭu. The sediment of water in which raw rice has been washed. తేర్చిన కడుగుయొక్క అడుగుది. పులియు puliyu. v. n. To turn sour. పులియ, పులియాకు or పుల్లాకు puliya. n. A leaf on which one's food has been taken, విస్తరాకు. పులియబారు Same as పులియు. పులివెలగచెట్టు puli-velagacheṭṭu. n. A species of wood apple. పులివరుగు puli-varugu. n. Dried and sour fruits, pickled fruit, పులియబెట్టిన వరుగు. పులిహోరు pulihōru. [Kan.] n. Rice dressed with acid sauce, పులి అన్నము.

(p. 774) pulumu or పులుముకొను pulumu. [Tel.] v. n. and a. To scour or rub, in washing or bathing. రుద్దు, నలుపు. To beat, కొట్టు. కండ్లుపులుముకొనుచు లేచినాడు he waked up rubbing his eyes. తలపులుముకొను to rub the head in bathing. గుడ్డలువులుముకొను to wash clothes. వాణ్ని బాగా పులిమినారు they thrashed him well. పులుముడు palumuḍu. n. Rubbing, రుద్దడము. పులిమిపుచ్చు pulimi-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To evade, అడిగినదానికి ఉత్తరము చెప్పకుండా మాయచేయు. 'నందుడదేమన్న నవ్వుచు మీకేలపొమ్మంచునొకవేళ పులిమిపుచ్చు.' N. ix. 344.

(p. 990) mīsamu mīsamu. [Tel.] n. A moustache or whisker. An insect's feelers, horns, or antennæ. Plu. మీసములు, మీసలు or మీసాలు. 'మిన్నక వచ్చివచ్చి పులిమీసలను య్యెలలూగినట్లు.' (Padm. iii. 37.) to beard a lion in his den. వానికి ఇంక మీసకట్టు ఏర్పడలేదు his whiskers have not yet appeared.

(p. 997) muccikonu muchchi-konu. [Tel.] v. a. To cover, to swarm upon as flies. ముసురుకొను. 'అనిపలుకబెళుకు మదిబెసగొనగామేనెల్ల ముచ్చికొనుచున్ పులిమెలల్లనెయపలికిజని.' S. ii. 288.

(p. 1021) meṭṭu meṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To step, walk, tread. అడుగుపెట్టు, నడుచు, త్రొక్కు. 'మెల్ల మెల్లన మెట్టుచుదొలగి అల్లనల్లనతలుపులండకు జేరి.' BD iv. 1523. To tread on, to trample on. To kick, to thrust with the foot. To wear, as sandals. తొక్కు, కాలితోతన్ను, పాదుకలు వేసికొను. 'ఏయేతీర్థములందు గ్రుంకిడితి రేయేద్వీపముల్ మెట్టినారు.' Swa. i. 26. 'నీళ్లమునుగనేల జలధిమెట్టగనేల మొనసివేల్పులకును మ్రొక్కనేల.' Vēma. iii. 259. n. Treading, త్రొక్కుట. A step of a ladder or stair, సోపానము. A step, grade, degree, rank. A mount a hill, తిప్ప, కొండ. To lead to make one walk, to cause to be trampled. To suggest, to stir the mind. నడిపించు, తొక్కించు. To kill, చంపు. 'మింటన్ మ్రోసినమ్రోత తాలిమిని లో మెట్టింపమున్నీపునా యింటన్ బుట్టెదవంచుకంసుడుతొడిన్ హింసించె నీయన్నలన్.' B. X. 102. మెట్టిక meṭṭika. n. A step , మెట్టు, సోపానము. See also మెటిక. మెట్టిమల్లాడు meṭṭi-mall-āḍu. v. a. To trample down or all over, to ruin, హతముచేయు, ధ్వంసముచేయు. 'కర్మంబుల కట్టడలకులోనుగాక మాయలనుమెట్టి మల్లాడి నిర్మలలింగసేవ నెట్టిభక్తిఘటించు.' L. xvi. 229. మెట్టుకు meṭṭu-ku. adv. On the whole, altogether. In fact, in all, at the most, at least, at any rate. In short, at the best or worst, once for all, finally, at last, in the end, after all, withal, yet still. తుదకు. మెట్టుకుపోయినాడు of course he is gone. మెట్టిల్లు (మెట్టిన + ఇల్లు) the mother-in-law's house, ఆడుదాని అత్తగారిల్లు. మెట్టుబ్రాలు sacred rice, తలబ్రాలు.
