(p. 140) iluvaramu or ఇలువారము ilu-varamu. [Tel.] n. A hut built without walls. గోడలు లేని యెత్తుడుగుడిసె. A portable hut. గోడలు లేక అంతా పూరితో కట్టబడిన గుడిసె. See ఇలవరము or ఇలారము.

(p. 311) kaipadamu or కయిపదము kai-padamu. [Tel.] n. A test in poetical composition. కవిపరి జ్ఞానపరీక్షార్థము పూరింపనిచ్చే పద్యాంశము. సమస్య. 'ఉ కైపదమిచ్చువారలును గ్రక్కునబద్యము చెప్పువారలున్' భో. ii.

(p. 757) piluka or పిల్క piluka. [Tel.] n. A young one, a young shoot. లేటిలేబిలుక the young of the antelope. 'పులులకు బుద్ధినేర్పుకొని పూరియుగీరియు మేటిలేడిలే, చిలుకలవెంట ద్రిప్పుకొని పెంచుచు.' R. ii. 69. అంచపిలుక a young swan. సింగపుబిలుక the cub of a lion. తేటిపిలుక a young bee. పిలుకవాటు piluka-vāṭu. n. Bearing young ones, పిల్లలను వేయుట. 'పిలుకవాటిగొడిగె జావడిగెములకుం.' A. iv. 36. టీ పిలుకవాటి, పిల్లలను ఇచ్చే, గోడిగెనావడములకు, ఆడగుర్రపుతట్లకు.

(p. 766) puḍaka or పుడుక puḍaka. [Tel. from పుడుకు.] n. A small stick or bit; a pin, a bodkin, a stiletto. పూరిపుడక a bit of straw. ముక్కుపుడక a gold pin worn in the nose. పుడకలు sticks, firewood. పుట్టుకతో పుట్టినది. పుడకలతో గాని పోదు that which is born with a person will not leave him till his cremation, it was born with him and he will carry it to his grave. S. i. 492. పుడకబావిలి an earring like a slender stick of gold.

(p. 779) pūḍu pūḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be filled or closed up: to fall in, as a well or pit. బావి పూడిపోయినది the well has fallen in. కాలువ పూడిపోయినది the canal is filled up with earth. ఎముకలు పూడిపోయినవి the bones are covered with flesh పూడుపాము pūḍu-pāmu. n. A small, fierce and venomous snake called the cobra maurilla. మట్టిలో పూరియుండుపాము. పూడుపు or పూడ్పు. n. Burying, పూడ్చుట. Buried treasure. నిక్షేపము. పూడ్చు pūḍṭsu. (Madras Telugu for పోయివిడుచు.) v. n. To go పోవు. పూడిపించు or పూడ్పించు pūḍipiṇṭsu. v. a. To cause to be buried or filled up. పూడు or పూడిక pūḍu. n. The filling up, stuff, that has fallen in. పూడుచు or పూడ్చు pūḍuṭsu. v. a. To fill up, to close, as a pit with earth, to inter or bury, to conceal under the ground. To plant, పాతు.

(p. 780) pūramu pūramu. [Skt.] n. A flood, a flow, the flowing of the tide. ప్రవాహము. adj. Filled, నిండిన. పూరకము pūrakamu. adj. Filling, completing. n. That which fills or completes, filling up. A citron, Citrus medica. మాదిఫలము. Closing the right nostril and drawing up air through the left. ఊపిరిని పూరించుట. పూరకుడు pūrakuḍu. n. One who fills, నించువాడు. పూరగించు pūra-ginṭsu. v. a. To fulfil. నెరవేర్చు. To pass, as time, కడపు. పూరణము puraṇamu. n. Filling, completing: stuffing: the inside of a pie. నిండించుట. adj. That which fills, నించునది. పూరించు pūrinṭsu. v. a. To fill, to fill with air, to sound a horn. నించు. 'హరిపూరింప దదాస్యమారుత సుగంధాకృష్టమై.' పూరీ or పూరిక pūri. n. A kind of sweet thin cake made of wheat flour. పూరితము pūritamu. adj. Filled, full, complete. నింపబడిన.

(p. 780) pūri pūri. [Tel.] n. Grass. The milk given by animals. మృగముల చనుబాలు. పూరినొసగు to eat grass, గడ్డితిను. పూరిక తినెను he ate grass i.e., he lost the battle. ఆ నేలను పైపూరితోకూడా అమ్మినాడు he sold the ground with all that was on it. పూరియిల్లు or పూరిల్లు pūri-illu. n. A thatched house.

(p. 804) poṭla poṭla. [Tel. lit: that which has spots. పొడలుకలది. cf. Tamil పొడలంగాయ.] n. The snake gourd, Momordica charantia. చేదుపొట్ల or చేతిపొట్ల the bitter Hair flower, Trichosanthes laciniata (Ainslie ii. 296.) అడవిపొట్ల (Rox. iii. 702.) and గు౛్జుపొట్ల are other species. పొట్లపూచుక్క poṭla-pū-ṭsukka. n. The constellation called పుష్యమి, పొట్లపూరిక్క నెల the month called పుష్యమాసము.

(p. 812) polapamu polapamu. [Tel.] n. The act of blowing, or spreading as wind, విసరడము, వీవడము, ప్రసరణము, వ్యాపనము. Smell, వాసన. Brightness, ప్రకాశము. adj. Spread, వ్యాపించిన, వ్యాప్తము. 'సీ పొలపంబు మెరసి దిక్కుల గాంతిపూరించు క్రొక్కారుమెరుగులనుక్కడంచి.' M. IV. ii. 87.

(p. 918) bhariñcu bharinṭsu. [Skt. from భృ to bear.] v. a. To bear, sustain, maintain, support, endure, tolerate. మోయు, ప్రోచు, రక్షించు. భరము bharamu. n. Weight, బరువు. Excellence, అతిశయము. భరితము bharitamu. adj. Filled with, full, పూరితము. See భర్త, భారము and భార్య.

(p. 1068) rasamu rasamu. [Skt.] n. Juice, fluid, liquid, extract, essence. Taste, flavour, రుచి. Taste, sentiment, emotion, passion, affection, humour. Quicksilver, పాదరసము. The షడ్రసములు or six flavours are మధురము or తీసి sweet; ఆమ్లము or పులుసు sour; తిక్తము or వగరు astringent; లవణము or ఉప్పు salt; కటువు or కారము pungent; కషాయము or చేదు bitter. రసఖండమైనభూమి or రసవత్తైనభూమి strong soil, which is not exhausted. నీరసమైనభూమి land that is exhausted. కోపరసము the spirit of wrath. దయారసము the spirit of love, kind feelings. ఈ పద్యములో రసములేదు this is a tasteless verse. విరసమైనమాటలు rude language. The nine రసములు or humours produce the following స్థాయీభావములు (symptoms.) 1. శృంగారరసము (love) produces రతి enjoyement. 2. నీరసము (honour) produces ఉత్సాహము daring. 3. కరుణారసము (mercy) begets విస్మయము marvel. 5. హాస్యరసము (merriment) produces హాస్యభావము laughter. 6. భయానకరసము (timidity) leads to భయము fright. 7. బీభత్సరసము (austerity) begets జుగుప్స sarcasm. 8. రౌద్రరసము (wrath) leads to క్రోధము cruelty. 9. శాంతరసము. (gentleness) produces శమభావము calmness. రసకర్పూరము rasa-karpūramu. n. A white sublimate or muriate of mercury, కర్పూరరసము. రసగుండు rasa-gunḍu. n. A ball coated with quicksilver, రసముపూరినగుండు. రసజ్ఞు rasa-gnya. n. The tongue, నాలుక. రజజ్ఞత rasa-gnyata. n. Skill, judgement, taste, critical discernment, తెలివి. రసజ్ఞుడు rasa-gnyuḍu. n. A man of taste, a critic. గుణదోషములనెరిగినవాడు. రసదాడి or రసదాళి rasa-dāḍi. n. Sugar cane. చెరుకు. 'మమధురస్థూలదాడిమబీజములతోడ, దసరారురసదాడిగనెలతోడ.' A. ii. 85. A sort of factitious cinnabar, made with zinc, mercury, blue vitriol and nitre, ఔషధవిశేషము. రససిద్ధి rasa-siddhi. n. Alchemy, రసవాదము. 'ధమనీయఖంబున గ్రాలించిమెరుంగుపసిడి గనెరససిద్దిన్.' R. vi. 10. రసాంజనము a kind of collyrium. అంజనవిశేషము. రసాతలము rasā-talamu. n. A name of Hades. పాతాళలోకము. రసాభాసము ras-ābhāsamu. n. Bad taste, inelegance. adj. Disagreeable, disgusting. విరసమైన. ఆ శ్లోకమును దిద్ది రసాబాసము చేసినాడు in correcting the verse he has spoiled it, he showed bad taste in correcting it. రసాభాసముగా మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke coarsely. ఆయిల్లు నిండా రసాభాసముగా నున్నది that house is very disagreeable. ఊరేగుచుండగా వాన వచ్చి అంతా రసాభాసమైపోయినది when the marriage procession was going on, there was a shower and everything was upset. రసాయనము ras-āyanamu. n. A panacea, a medicine preventing old age and prolonging life, జరావ్యాధిహరౌషధము. Butter milk, sweet curds, గోరసము, చల్ల. Poison, విషము. 'తననచో మాధుర్యమెనయు నా యివి చూడుమన్నట్లు మేలిరసాయనములు, ఒప్పుగా గిన్నియలనుంచి యపచరించి.' T. iii. 18. టీ రసాయనములు, తీసిగలిగిన పదార్థములు. రసాల rasāla. n. Good taste or judgement. రసజ్ఞత. రసికుడు rasikuḍu. A man of taste. శృంగారాదిరసములను గ్రహించువాడు, రసజ్ఞుడు. రసితము rasi-tamu. n. Sound noise, thunder. ధ్వని, ఉరుము.
