(p. 373) guccu or గ్రుచ్చు guṭsṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To pierce or prick. To thread, string together. పూసలుగుచ్చు to string beads. తాడు గుచ్చినాడు he ran the thread through, or inserted it. చేతులుగుచ్చు to join hand in hand, one's fingers being laced between those of his friend. కాగిటగ్రుచ్చె he embraced her. గుచ్చుకొను guṭsṭsu-konu. v. n. To enter, penetrate, pierce. కాలికి ముల్లుగుచ్చుకొనినది a thorn pierced the foot. గుచ్చుకపోయినకండ్లు sunken eyes. కండ్లు గుచ్చుకొనిపోతవి I cannot keep my eyes open.

(p. 752) pikili, pikkili, pikiligāḍu, pikiliguvva, pikilipiṭṭa, pigili or పిగిలిపిట్ట pikili. [Tel.] n. The Common Madras Bulbul, Molpastes hæmorrhons. తురకపికిలిపిట్ట the Southern Red-whiskered Bulbul, Otocompsa fuscicaudata తోకపిగిలిపిట్ట the Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Terpsiphone paradisi. పొదపిగిలిగాడు the White-browed Bulbul, Pycnonotus luteolus. కొండపొదపిగిలిగాడు the yellow-throated Bulbul, Pycnonotus xantheleemus. పికిలిచెండు a tuft made of the feathers of this bird. పికిలిపూసలు pikili-pūsalu. n. plu. A kind of beads. 'గోరోజన, మిర్రులున్, పికిలిపూసల్, మోవిపండులు, కుందేళ్లు.' R. ii. 4.

(p. 779) pūdekaṭṭu pūde-kaṭṭu. v. n. To form into a gold bead. బంగారుపూసగా నేర్పడు.

(p. 780) pūyu pūyu. [Tel.] v. n. To bear or produce, as flowers. పూచు ఆ భూమి ఉప్పుపూస్తున్నది that ground produces salt. v. a. To smear, besmear, daub, anoint, lay on, apply (oil, paint. medicine, &c.) ఒంటికి గంధము పూసికొనుట rubbing oneself with sandal paste. పూయించు pūyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to apply or smear, paint, oil, &c. ఇంటికి సున్నము పూయించితిని or వేయించితిని I got my house whitewashed.

(p. 782) pūsa pūsa. [Tel.] n. A bead, మణి. A joint of a finger, వ్రేలులోనగువాని కీలు. A bit or piece. వెన్నుపూసలు the joints of the backbone. ముడ్డిపూస the rump, os coccyx. 'చిటివేలిపూసపై ఘటియిల్లు పెడకట్టి చిమ్ముల నురియడాల్ముమ్మరముగ.' A. vi. 104. వెన్నపూస a bit of butter, i.e., butter. 'పుట్టనియట్టి బిడ్డలకు పూసలు కట్టుదు రమ్మలక్కలు.' (Ahalya. iii. 63.) women call for necklaces for their children before they are born, i.e., they count the chickens before they are hatched. పూసగ్రుచ్చినరీతి (KP. iv. 193.) in regular order. పూసకజ్జెము pūsa-kajjemu. n. The sweetmeat called maccaroons. పూసకామంచిగడ్డి or పూసలకామంచిగడ్డి pūsa-kāmanchi-gaḍḍi. n. A kind of కామంచి. పూసగురువెంద pūsa-guruvenda. n. A kind of head. గుంజాలత. పూసయొమ్ము or పూసయెముక the back bone, వెన్నుపూస. 'చేదోయికురుచయై చెవులు నిల్వంకలై పూసయెమ్ముకలు పొంచుకట్టి.' Kāsi Khānd. vi. 48. పూసలవాడు pūsala-vāḍu. n. One who sells beads, one who polishes precious stones, రత్నములు సానపెట్టువాడు.

(p. 1022) mettu mettu. [Tel.] v. a. To lay on or apply, to daub, as plaster or mud, &c. దళముగాపూయు, దట్టముగాపూయు. 'వట్టివేళ్లనుదడిగట్టి శ్రిగంధంపుటడుసునమెత్తి.' KP. vi. 284. గోడకు మన్ను మెత్తిరి they plastered the wall with mud. 'మెదడుగందపురొంపి మెత్తినాడు.' Swa. iv. 109. n. Plaster, plaster put over grain pits. దళముగా పూసినపూత. మెత్తడము mettaḍam. n. Daubing, మెత్తుట. 'మంటిమెత్తడము.' వి. పు. vii.

(p. 1180) vippu vippu. [Tel.] v. a. To open, untie, loose. ముడివిప్పు to unite a knot. కథను విప్పు to solve a riddle. ఆ సంగతిని విప్పి చెప్పినాడు he explained the matter clearly. కంకణాలు విప్పేదాకా until the marriage was over. n. Loosing, opening, untying. విరియు, విప్పడము, వీడడము. Extension, spreading, విస్తారత, బాహుళ్యము, వైశాల్యము. 'సీ భద్రోత్థ హతవలత్కద్రూజమనజుట్ట తోవిప్పుతోదరిదొండమాడ.' A. iv. 192. adj. Extensive. large, విస్తారమైన. 'విప్పుకప్పగు గొప్పకొప్పున విరినల్లగలువలదండలు చెలువుమీర.' T. iv. 144. విప్పుగా vippu-gā. adv. Extensively, greatly, widely. విస్తారముగా. 'వింతసంతన జేసివిప్పుగా దోసినహురు మంజిపూసల మెరుగుకుచ్చు.' H. iv. 134. 'విప్పుగవిరితేనెవావవిడిబడిగురియన్.' ib. ii. 81. విప్పగు vipp-agu. adj. Large, great, wide. విశాలమైన. 'ఆప్పెనువేసవివిభవము విప్పగుదన్నగరనికట వృషగిరిహరికిన్.' A. ii. 83.

(p. 1269) saṃ or సమ్ sam. [Skt.] prefix. When used with Skt. nouns and adjectives, it means beautiful, చక్కని. Much, very, మిక్కిలి. Places before verbs, it means Well, చక్కగా. See. సంక్షోభము, సంక్షోభించు, సంఘటిల్లు, సంచరించు, సంచలించు, సంతుష్టి, సందర్శించు, సంపూర్ణము, సంపూర్తి, సంప్రాప్తి, సంప్రీతి, సంయుక్తము, సంయుతము, సంయోగము, సంరక్షించు, సంస్తుతి, &c. It also means With, together with. సమంచితము worshipped, revered, పూజ్యమైన. సమధికము exceeding, abundant, plentiful, ఎక్కువైన, మిక్కుటమైన, మిక్కిలి అధికమైన. సమన్వితము joined, united, combined, కూడుకొన్న. సంయుక్తమైన. సమర్పించు to give to the great, to offer presents to superiors. పూజ్యులకు ఇచ్చు. సమర్పితము offered, presented, given to superiors, పూజ్యులకు ఇవ్వబడ్డ. సమర్పణ giving to superiors, a thing presented to the great, an offering, పూజ్యులకు ఇయ్యడము పూజ్యులకు ఇచ్చిన వస్తువు. సమవధానంబుతో attentively, జాగ్రతతో. సమాకర్షి far spreading, as scent. సమాకీర్ణము dishevelled, shed, scattered, sprinkled, intersprersed, చల్లబడ్డ, వెదచల్లబడ్డ. సమాగతము that which is come right, చక్కగావచ్చిన; got, obtained, పొందిన. సమాగమము union, junction; a coming, arrival. coming together, meeting, assembling. చేరడము, కూడడము. కలియడము. రావడము. సమాదరము respect, esteem, honour, సన్మానము, మర్యాద. సమాదృతము respected, esteemed, సన్మానించబడ్డ. గొప్పచేయబడ్డ. సమాశ్లిష్టము embraced, కౌగిలించుకొన్న. సమాశ్వాసము consolation, condolence, soothing, comforting, సాంత్వనము, ఓదార్చడము. సమిద్ధము shinning, glowing, blazing, ప్రకాశమానమైన. (p. 1384) haridaḷamu or అరిదళము hari-daḷamu. [from Skt. హరితాళమ్.] n. Yellow orpiment, Arsenicum flavum. వేషగాండ్రు మూతికి పూసుకొనేటిది. స్వర్ణతాళము gold coloured orpiment, auri-pigmentum.
