(p. 37) aḍugu aḍugu. [Tel.] n. The foot, the footstep, a pace, step, the bottom, basis. A foot in length containing twelve inches. A line of verse. Thus four 'feet' make one stanza, or quatrain. చెట్టు అడుగు the foot of a tree. అడుగురాయి a stone at the bottom కొండ అడుగుననుండే ఊరు a village at the foot of a mountain. ఆ కథను అడుగునుంచి చెప్పు tell the story from the beginning. కుండ అడుగు the bottom of a pot. అడుగంటకోయు to cut off by the root. అడుగుతో పెళ్లగించు to eradicate, to root out. అడుగారిపోవు to be utterly ruined. నా మాటకు అడుగుదాటకు do not transgress my command. వాని అడుగుల జాడ పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they traced his footsteps and followed him. అడుగడుగున or అడుగడుగునకు step by step, now and then, often. అన్నము అడుగంటినది the rice has burnt at the bottom of the pot.

(p. 785) peṇḍli , పెండిలి or పెళ్లి penḍli. [Drav: పెన్ a wife, a woman.] n. Lit: Taking a wife. Marriage. The rite which answers to betrothal between children, the actual marriage being called, శోభనము. పెండ్లి అరుగు or పెళ్లితిన్నె a small hillock upon which the marriage takes place. పెండ్లి కూతురు or పెండ్లికొమార్తె n. The bride, వధువు. A daughter-in-law, కోడలు. పెండ్లి కొడుకు, or పెండ్లికుమారుడు n. The bridegroom. A son-in-law, అల్లుడు. తోడిపెండ్లికొడుకు a bridesman. తోడిపెండ్లికూతురు a bridesmaid.పెండ్లికూతురిగది the bride chamber. పెండ్లిచేయించు to unite two persons in marriage. పెండ్లిచేయు to marry a couple. పెండ్లిచేసికొను to marry, i.e., become a husband or wife.పెండ్లిండులు or పెళిళ్లు n. plu. Marriages, weddings. పెండ్లికుండలు penḍli-kunḍalu. n. Painted pots used at marriages, అయిరేని. పెండ్లిగుమ్మడి the ash gourd used at marriages, బూడిదగుమ్మడి. పెండ్లినడక penḍli-naḍaka. n. A very slow or tedious walk, as people walk in marriage processions. పెండ్లాడు, పెండ్లియాడు or పెండ్లియగు penḍl-āḍu. v. a. To marry. వివాహముచేసికొను. To be married, వివాహమగు. పెండ్లము, or పెండ్లాము penḍlāmu n. A wife.

(p. 786) pekalu pekalu. [Tel.] v. n. To come up. i.e., be torn up by the roots, పెల్లగిల్లు. To give way, yield. To get ready to travel, ప్రయాణమగు. పెకలించు, పెకలుచు or పెకల్చు pekalinṭsu. v. a. To root up, root out, tear up, eradicate. పెకలజేయు. పెళ్లగించు. To tear up by the roots.

(p. 793) pella or పెళ్ల pella. [Tel.] n. A lump, clod; a chip; a flake; a raw brick. పెల్లగించు or పెళ్లగించు pella-ginṭsu. v. a. To pull out, root out, draw out. To dig up, unbury, unearth, eradicate. ఆ చెట్టును పెళ్లగించి మరియొక చోట పెట్టినాడు, లేక, పాతినాడు he took up the tree and planted it elsewhere. పెల్లగిల్లు or పెల్లగిలు pella-gillu. v. n.To come out by the roots. పాదుఊడిలేచు. To run away, పారిపోవు. వాడు అత్తవారింటినుంచి పెల్లగిలివచ్చు గతిగా నుండలేదు he seems unlikely to stir from his mother in-law's house. గాలివానకు చెట్లు కుంకటివేళ్లతో పెల్లగిలినవి the trees were torn up by the roots by the storm. ఆ గోడగార అంతా పెల్లగిలిపోయినది all the plaster of the wall came off or peeled off.

(p. 793) peḷapeḷa , ఫెళఫెళ, పెళ్లు or పెళుక్కు peḷa-peḷa. [Tel. anuk.] n. The noise produced in breaking a thing suddenly. ఆ కొమ్మ పెళుక్కుని విరిగినది the bough broke with a crash. adv. Aloud, crashingly, echoingly, roaringly, creakingly, resoundingly. 'ఫెళఫెళవీరణాల్ ఫెళిఫెళివాయించి.' H. ii. 98. 'కొమ్మ ఫెళఫెళవిరిగెను.' Pal. 173. పెళపెళమను peḷapeḷa-m-anu. v. n. To crash. To make a rustling sound. అతడు ఆ దేశములో పెళపెళ లాడిస్తున్నాడు he is making a great uproar in the country. 'పెళపెళనెల్లెడ నురుముగ.' Padya. L. iv. 77.

(p. 793) peḷlamrānu peḷḷa-mrānu. [Tel.] n. A harrow. పాపటము, నేలను చదునుచేయు యంత్రము.

(p. 793) peḷluna peḷḷu-na. [Tel. anuk.] adv. Loudly, aloud. భేరీమృదంగములు పెళ్లున మోగెను. the great drums resounded aloud.

(p. 793) peḷlemu peḷḷemu. [Tel.] n. A flour consisting of a mixture of several substances used in making liquors, మద్యముచేయుటకు అనేక వస్తువులు చేర్చి చేసిన పిండి.

(p. 872) ballu or భల్లు ballu. [Tel.] n. Suddenness, a sudden sound, తెల్లవారుటయందగుధ్వన్యనుకరణము. A crackling sound, విరుగుయంటదగు ధ్వన్యనుకరణము. బల్లున or భల్లున ballu-na. adv. Suddenly, పెళ్లున. Broadly, brightly. బల్లునతెల్లవారె it dawned brightly, or, it was now broad day.

(p. 898) bettika bettika. [Tel.] n. A flake, that which comes off in flakes as plaster. ఎండినపెచ్చు, లేక, మంటిపెళ్ల.

(p. 899) bellu or పెళ్ల bellu. [Tel.] n. A flake of earth, &c. బెల్లుతవ్వించు bellu-tavvinṭsu. v. n. To dig or break up ground. బెల్లుదుక్కి digging in lieu of ploughing. బెల్లు విరవడము to break up fallow ground. (These phrases are used in the western part of the country.)

(p. 908) bomma or బొమ bomma. [from Skt. బ్రహ్మ.] n. The god Brahma. బ్రహ్మదేవుడు. An image, idol, puppet, doll. ప్రతిమ. ఆ పడుచు బొమ్మవలెనున్నది she is as beautiful as a statue. An eyebrow, కనుబొమ్మ. A badge of a title, బిరుదచిహ్నము. A mark of disgrace, అవమానచిహ్నము. adj. Little, trifling, అల్పము. బొమ్మంచు bomm-anṭsu. adj. Broidered, figured. Dyed in figures on the edges. Red, ఎర్రని. 'పులఖండములుగుల్కు బొమ్మంచుమోవికి గ్రుక్కిళ్లు మింగని కుందరదన.' N. ix. 287. n. Redness, ఎరుపు బొమ్మంచులు bomm-anṭsulu. n. A red bordered cloth. బొమ్మకట్టు or బొమ్మపెట్టు bomma-kaṭṭu. v. a. To deride, to scoff at, to disgrace, to insult. తిరస్కరించు, అవమానపరచు. బహుధనధాన్య సంపదల సొంపువహించి, పేదరిమికి బొమ్మపెట్టువారు.' Zacca. v. 134. బొమ్మడు bommaḍu. n. A Brahmin. బ్రాహ్మణుడు. బొమ్మచారి Same as బ్రహ్మచారి. (q. v.) బొమ్మజెముడు bomma-jemuḍu. n. The tree called Euphorbia antiquorum. సింహుండము. బొమ్మడాయ bomma-ḍāya. n. A kind of fish. ముద్గురమనే మత్స్యము. బొమ్మ పెండ్లిళ్లు or బొమ్మలపెళ్లిళ్లు bomma-penḍliḷḷu. n. Toy marriages, a game played by children, playing at marrying dolls. బొమ్మమేడి bomma-mēḍi. n. The opposite leaved fig tree, Ficus oppositiolia, కాకోదుంబరము. బొమ్మరాకాసి bomma-rākāsi. n. A devil or fiend, being the ghost of a Brahmin who has skilled in the Vedas, బ్రహ్మరాక్షసి. బొమ్మరాయి bomma-rāyi. n. A brick bat, a large pebble. plu. బొత్తురాలు. బొమ్మరిల్లు bomma-r-illv. n. A doll house, or baby house. R. iii. 35. బొమ్మలాట bommal-āṭa. n. A puppet show, a show of puppets moved by springs. బొమ్మలాటవాడు bommal-āṭa-vāḍu. n. A puppet showman.

(p. 1129) vapramu vapramu. [Skt.] n. A fort, a citadel. కోట. A mud wall, a rampart, the glacis of a fort, కోటకొరడు, పుట్టకోట. కొండనెత్తము, కోటఅడుగున పెట్టినకొరడు మట్టిదిన్నె మొదలైనవి. A shore, తీరము.' రాజులోగిలి చుట్టురాల వప్రంబు.' Sar. D. 112. వప్రక్రీడ vapra-krīḍa. n. Butting, as of an elephant or bull, &c. ఏనుగులు మొదలైనవి కొమ్ములతో ఏటిదరులను పెళ్లగించేఆట.
