(p. 496) ḍokka ḍokka. [Tel.] n. The flanks. The sides. The belly. The peel, husk, as the hard cocoanut coir. డొక్కపట్టిన నొప్పి a stitch in the side. డొక్కలో పొడిచె he smote him under the fifth rib. డొక్కబుర్ర an empty palmyra stone that has sprouted. తేగపారి వీడిన తాటివిత్తు.

(p. 498) taṇḍu tanḍu. [Tel.] n. The broad part or beazle of a ring. v. n. To ask for the payment of a debt. To collect or raise money. తండుకోల tanḍu-kōla. n. An oar. A spear used in killing fish. చేపలనుపొడిచే చిల్లకోల. 'సీ చుంగులల్లాడుగోచులు తండుకోలల నెట్టుకొల్పినమీలపుట్టికలను.' పంచ. వేం. i.

(p. 540) turumu turumu. [Tel.] n. Powder. పొడుము. Braided hair or tresses. కొప్పు. v. a. To cram, or stick: to thrust in. To adjust, trim, deck the head with flowers. కొప్పుగాముడుచు, కొప్పునదోపు. To grate, pound, reduce to powder or to chips పొడిచేయు. వాని నోట్లో గుడ్డతురిమి కొట్టినారు they thrust a handkerchief into his mouth to beat him. తురుముపీట turumu-pīṭa. n. A crooked knife with teeth at the end used to scoop out a cocoanut, &c. తురుముట కనువుగా చివరను పండ్లేర్పరచిన వంకర యినుప కమ్మిచెక్కిన పీట.

(p. 563) tō or తోడ tō. [Tel. from తోడు.] conj. With, together with, accompanied by, accompanying or following. కూడా, వెంబడి. వానిని కత్తితో పొడిచెను he stabbed him with a knife. నాతో చెప్పు tell me. జ్వరముతో నున్నాడు he is in a fever. ఉపవాసముతో నున్నారు they are fasting. సంకటముతో నుండే diseased, sick. నున్న దయతో చూడుము look on me with favour. చమురుగలుగుదివ్వె సరవితో మండును a lamp that has oil burns with clearness. Vēma. i. 43. అతనితో మనవిచేస్తిని I represented this to him. చీకటితో లేచి వెళ్లినారు they set out in the dark, i.e., before dawn.

(p. 605) dūyu or దుయ్యు dūyu. [Tel.] v. a. To penetrate, go through. గుచ్చుకొను. To pull off the scabbard, as a sword. To take palm leaves out of a volume. ఊడదీయు to strip off leaves or boughs. To pluck, take, as a handful of grass. వరదూసి pulling off the scalbard. దెబ్బ దూసిపోయినది the blow glanced off. పేగులు దిస్సిరాపొడిచి stabbed him so that the bowels came out. Pal. 424. దూయుతీగె Same as దుశ్శిరము. (q. v.) దూయించు dūyinṭsu. (causal of దూయు.) v. a. To draw across, to pass over. కాలినగడ్డపారచేత దూయించెను he passed a hot iron over the hand. (This is a ceremony of ordeal in oaths, quite distinct from cauterizing.) దూసిపోవు to go through or penetrate. To glance off, as a dart.

(p. 631) naḍḍi naḍḍi. [Tel.] n. The bending of the body back-wards. శరీరము వెనుకకు వంగియుండుట. (The bending of the body forwards or being hump-backed is called గూను.) The small of the back, the hollow above the loins. నడ్డినీల్గ కొట్టినాడు or నడ్డివిరగ పొడిచినాడు he gave him a blow that broke his back. adj. Sunk in, depressed in the middle, crooked. నడ్డిముక్కు a turned up nose. నడ్డిగా నిలుచు to stand with the belly pushed out, and the back drawn in.

(p. 688) paṇṭra or పంట్రకోల panṭra. [Tel.] n. A fish spear, a harpoon. చిళ్లలుగలయలుగులు మూడు నాల్గుగలకర్ర, చేపలనుపొడిచే ఆయుధము. పంట్రించు pantrinṭsu. v. a. To spear or harpoon a fish. పంట్రతోపొడుచు.

(p. 706) padunu or పదను padunu. [Tel. పది+ఉను.] n. Time, season, సమయము. Temper, sharpness, whetting, వాడి. Moisture, తడి. Goodness of metal. The right degree of softness (in boiled areca nut, &c.) పరిపాకము. ఆ కత్తికి పదును రాలేదు that knife is not properly tempered. దున్నడమునకు ఆ నేల పదునుగా నుండలేదు the ground is not sufficiently moist for ploughing. ఉక్కును కాచడములో పదును తప్పినది he failed in giving the right temper to the steel. 'పదునైనబలువాడిమెరుగువాలు.' HK. iv. 193. పదనుకొను padanu-konu. v. n. To become wet or moist, తడియు. 'సానబట్టిన రాపొడిచల్లి మెదపి. పదనునుధనిడిచేసెనోపద్మభవుడు.' Swa. ii. 40. టీ పదను, చేతితడి. పదను పెట్టేరాయి a bone or whetstone. ఒకపదునువాన one moistening of rain, i.e., so much rain as renders the earth fit for ploughing. One పదను or wetting sinks into the ground about the depth of a plough share: equivalent to 'one inch of rain.' పదునుచేయు to moisten. పొగాకుపదునుచేయు to prepare or cure tobacco in a particular way. పదునుపెట్టు to set or sharpen.

(p. 753) piḍi piḍi. [Tel. Lit: to hold.] n. A small handle, hilt, haft. కత్తి పరుజులోనగునది, త్సరువు. A handful, a fist, పిడికిలి. The female of any animal, ఆడుమృగము. రెండు పిళ్లరంసము a two handled saw. నులక పిడి a skein or ball of string. గురపిడి or మునుబిడి the female bison. Kālahas. ii. 83. పిడియేనుగు a female elephant. పిడికట్టు piḍi-kaṭṭu. n. The middle part of a bow where it is held, లస్తకము, వింటినడుము, పిడికిలి piḍi-kili. n. A hold or grasp, a fist, ముష్టి. ప్రాణాలుపిడికిట పట్టుకొన్నాడు his life is in his hand, i.e., he is in great distress: he is at the point of death. (Gen. పిడికిటి. Loc. పిడికిట. plu. పిడికిళ్లు.) పిడుగును బోలు పిడికిటవానిని పొడిచెను he hit him with his fist which was like a thunderbolt. పిడికిలించు piḍikilinṭsu. v. a. To hold in the fist. పిడికిట బట్టు. పిడికిలింత piḍikilinta. n. Closing the hands in homage. 'వారణగిరిపై నరదస్వామికి, పిడికిలింతలని పెంపుగనుడువుచు.' H. iv. 286.

(p. 805) poḍi poḍi. [Tel.] n. Powder, dust. చూర్ణము. Solder, rosin, metallic cement. పొడి or ముక్కుపొడి snuff. పొడిపెట్టిఊదు to solder. చెరుకుకట్టెలపొడి pounded sugar, శర్కర. B. D. iii. 324. చొక్కుపొడి love powder. ఆ పిల్లవానిని చొక్కుపొడివేసి పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they deluded him with love powder and carried him off, ఆ పిల్లవానిని మరుల మురుచల్లి పట్టుకొనిపోయినారు. పొడిమిరియము or మిరియపుపొడి powdered pepper. R. vii. 105. adj. Dry, ఎండిన. Powdered. Small, young. పొడికూర a curry fried without butter in a dry pan. పొడికూర mizzle, drizzling rain. పొడరాళ్లు bricks broken into pieces, brick-dust. పొడిబెల్లము pound ed jaggery. పొడికావ్యము a petty poem. పొడిపిట్ట a kind of bird. 'భిట్టువ, మునుగపూబిట్టువ, గిజిగాడు, ఉల్లెడ, పొడిపిట్ట, వంగపండు.' H. iii. 14. పొడిముత్యాలు seed pearl. పొడిమన్ను dry earth. పొడిచెమట imperceptible perspiration. పొడి బియ్యము dry rice. పొడిపడ్డవాతెరలు lips parched with grief. పొడిదగ్గు a dry cough. పొడి చీకటి poḍi-chīkaṭi. n. Twilight, darkness. పొడిచేయు or పొడికొట్టు poḍi-chēyu. To powder. పసుపుపొడిచేసినది she triturated or pulverized the turmeric. పొడిపొడిగా poḍi-poḍi-gā. adv. In pieces, piece meal, in the form of powder. Very dry.

(p. 806) poḍucu poḍuṭsu. [Tel.] n. To rise (as the sun or moon, a star, or the tide.) ప్రొద్దుపొడుచు, ఉదయించు, ఏపోటుపొడుచు నీకు వానితిట్లు పొడిచేనాటికి when his curses touch you, or fall upon you. ఏరు పోటు పొడిచినది the tide has risen in the river. To fight, పోట్లాడు. 'పాండవబలంబే కాదశా క్షౌహిణుల్ రూఢింగౌరవసైన్య మీయుభయముంరోషాహేతా న్యోన్యమై యీడబోవక వీకతో బొడువగా నేపారుఘోరాజి నల్లాడెంధాత్రి.' M. I. i. 136. వీకతోబొడువగా on their making a bold attack, ధైర్యముతో పైబడగా. v. a. To pierce, stab, gore. To prick or cause pain. To sting, కుట్టు. రంధ్రము to bore a hole. పొడుచు to put (a worm) on a fish hook ఇచది కండ్లను పొడుస్తున్నది it tries (pricks) the eyes. మోచేతితోపొడుచు to thrust or hit with the elbow, or to elbow. ముద్రపొడుచు to seal, set a seal on. To cut down, or fell, నరకు. 'బొగ్గులకైకల్పతరువు బొడుచుటసుమతీ.' Sumati. v. 73. ఆనపొడుచు to lay a ban or protest, so as to check proceedings, ఒట్టుపెట్టు. A proverb says వానివేలితోనే వానికన్ను పొడిచినారు they pierced his eye with his own finger, i.e., they turned his arts against himself. పొడుపు poḍupu. n. A stab, పొడుచుట. A pricking pain, as that of a boil. The rising of the sun. The swell of a river. ఉదయము, పోటు. 'తడుకద్రోపరి ముచ్చు పొడుపులు.' P. iv. 255. టీ నెరదొంగలుగాక తడుకద్రోపరులైన దొంగలు. నెలపొడుపు the rising of the moon. పొడికథ or పొడుపుకథ a conundrum. పొడుపుడుమాట or ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాట a taunt or jeer, దెప్పు. Ila. iii. 8. పొడుపుగొండ poḍupu-gonḍa. n. A mountain out of which the sun is supposed to rise, ఉదయాద్రి. పొడువ or పొడుపడు poḍuva, n. One who thrusts or pricks. పొడుచువాడు. A wicked man, దుర్జనుడు.

(p. 809) poddu or ప్రొద్దు poddu. [Tel.] n. The sun. Time, period. బారెడుపొద్దు ఎక్కినప్పుడు when the sun was about two yards high, i.e., about 8 A. M. పొద్దుతిరుగుడు పువ్వు the sun flower or heliotrope. రెండుగడియల పొద్దుఉండగా while two hours of daylight yet remained. శానాపొద్దుపోయినది it is very late. పొద్దున early in the morning. పొద్దుపొడిచెను the sun arose. పొద్దుగూకె (or క్రుంకెను) the sun has set. పొద్దు గూకులు the livelong day, all day long. పొద్దుపుచ్చు to while away time. పొద్దుపోకుండా ఉన్నది the time passes slowly, or it is very dull. పొద్దు సరసముగా గడిపితిమి we passed the time merrily. పొద్దుతిరుగు బాటున at noon. చాలా పొద్దుగలుగలేచినాడు he rose very early. ఒక్క పొద్దు ఉండు to take only one meal a day, to fast for a period. ఇప్పుడు (lit: ఈ+పొద్దు) now. అప్పుడు (ఆ+పొద్దు.) then. ఆపెకు ఇప్పుడు పొద్దులు She is near her time. దేన్ని పొద్దు పోకచేస్తివి surely you did this out of mere idleness!

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. A cow that butts, పొడిచే స్వభావముగల ఆవు పోటరి or పోటరికాడు pōṭari. (పోటు+అరి.) n. A hero, a brave man. శూరుడు. 'పోటరులైనభర్త లేవురు గలరంటి.' M. IV. ii. 264. పోటరితనము pōṭari-tanamu. n. (p. 868) bari bari. [Tel.] n. A side. పార్శ్వము. 'పక్కలు నాటించి బరులుచెండాడి.' Pal. 108. బరులుబ్బు to bloat, as the belly or the sides of the belly. A line drawn on the ground in a circle, గిరి.
