(p. 111) āṭu āṭu. [Tel.] v. n. To suffice: to last, to be enough దాన్ని పోడిమిగా వాడితే యింకా నెల దినములకు ఆటివచ్చును with caution it may suffice for a month. అది ఆటదు or ఆటి రాదు it is not enough. కట్టెలు ఒక మాటుగా తీసికొంటే ఆటివస్తుంది, చిల్లరచిల్లరగా తీసికొంటే ఆటిరావు if you buy your firewood in the lump it will last; if you buy only a little at a time it will not. ఆటు n. Striking. కొట్టుట. Shooting, or rheumatic pain: పోటు (M. VIII. i. 218:) throbbing. నాకు ఆటుపోటుగానున్నది I am in great pain. ఆ పుంటిలో ఆట్లుపోట్లు ఎత్తినవి the boil throbbed much.

(p. 335) krummu or కుమ్ము krummu. [Tel.] n. To butt. కొమ్ములతో పొడుచు. క్రుమ్ము or క్రుమ్ముడు krummu. n. Butting. కొమ్ములతో పొడుచుట. క్రుమ్ముడుపడు krummuḍu-paḍu. v. n. To be butted. పోటుపడు. క్రుమ్ములాడు krummulāḍu. v. n. To butt each other. క్రుమ్ముకొని పోట్లాడు.

(p. 735) pāṭu pāṭu. [Tel. from పడు] n. A fall. పడుట. Suffering, శ్రమము. Labour. A movement, an action, చర్య. Distress, misfortune, hardship, mishap, ఆపద. Time, occasion. సమయము. Manner, way, mode, విధము. A declining state. The ebb of the tide. సముద్రపునీరు పొంగి తగ్గుట. రెప్పపాటు (lit: eye-lid-fall.) a wink or blink. బల్లిపాటు the fall of a lizard. చెవిటివాడు పెదవిపారు గ్రహించును a deaf man understands the motions of the lips. వారు పడే పాట్లు చెప్పనలవికాదు the hardships they suffer are indescribable. కుక్కపడేపాట్లు పడుచున్నాడు he leads the life of a dog. ఎన్నిపాట్లు పడినను వాడు చిక్కలేదు though we did all we could we did not find him. వాడు పడ్డపాట్లు వృధాగాపోవునా will all his trouble be in vain. వచ్చినపాటుననే as soon as he comes. అది ఆపాటుననే ఉన్నది it remains as it was, it remains unaltered. అది యేపాటుననున్నదో ఆపాటుననే ఉండనిమ్ము leave it as it is . అదోకపాటుగానుండేనేల a declivity, slope or descent. పోటుపాటు the ebb and flow of a river or sea, బోర్లపాటులు vile pranks. పొరపాటు an error. Added to some verbs it serves as an affix like-tion, -ness or -ment and forms a noun, as నగుబాటు laughter. తగులుబాటు cost, expenditure. దిద్దుబాటు a correction. కుదురుబాటు settlement. ఒంటరిపాటు loneliness. ఒంటరిపాటున alone, unaccompanied. ఆపాటున where-upon, thereupon, on that occasion. పనిపాటులు jobs. పాట్లమారి a drudge, మిక్కిలి శ్రమపడు స్వభావముగలవాడు. పాటుపడు pāṭu-paḍu. To toil, to labour. శ్రమపడు. పాటుసాగించు pāṭu-sāginṭsu. v. n. To cultivate, to begin cultivation operations. పాటునబడు pāṭuva-baḍu. v. n. To come back to the original position. యథాస్థితికివచ్చు.

(p. 778) pūcī or పూచి pūchī. [H.] n. Responsibility పూచీ నామీద లేదు I am not responsible for it. పూచీపడు pūchī-paḍu. v. n. To undertake the responsibility. హాత్పూచీలెక్కలు accounts necessary for current business. పూచీపట్టు or పూచిపట్టు pūchī-paṭṭu. v. n. To be bent upon or firmly resolved, to persist.పూనుకొను. 'పాండవమధ్యముండు పదమూడు సంవత్సరంబులు పూచిపట్టికయ్యంబునకు వచ్చె నతనిలావును బీరంబును లోకంబునకెక్కి యున్నయది.' M. VI. iv. 206. 'వీడెసైంధవుండు వీనిచుట్టునుగృప, శల్యగురుతనూజ సోమదత్త కర్ణకర్ణసుతులుకావలి యున్నారు పోటుమగలు గాన పూచిపట్టి.' M. VII. iii. 179.

(p. 806) poḍucu poḍuṭsu. [Tel.] n. To rise (as the sun or moon, a star, or the tide.) ప్రొద్దుపొడుచు, ఉదయించు, ఏపోటుపొడుచు నీకు వానితిట్లు పొడిచేనాటికి when his curses touch you, or fall upon you. ఏరు పోటు పొడిచినది the tide has risen in the river. To fight, పోట్లాడు. 'పాండవబలంబే కాదశా క్షౌహిణుల్ రూఢింగౌరవసైన్య మీయుభయముంరోషాహేతా న్యోన్యమై యీడబోవక వీకతో బొడువగా నేపారుఘోరాజి నల్లాడెంధాత్రి.' M. I. i. 136. వీకతోబొడువగా on their making a bold attack, ధైర్యముతో పైబడగా. v. a. To pierce, stab, gore. To prick or cause pain. To sting, కుట్టు. రంధ్రము to bore a hole. పొడుచు to put (a worm) on a fish hook ఇచది కండ్లను పొడుస్తున్నది it tries (pricks) the eyes. మోచేతితోపొడుచు to thrust or hit with the elbow, or to elbow. ముద్రపొడుచు to seal, set a seal on. To cut down, or fell, నరకు. 'బొగ్గులకైకల్పతరువు బొడుచుటసుమతీ.' Sumati. v. 73. ఆనపొడుచు to lay a ban or protest, so as to check proceedings, ఒట్టుపెట్టు. A proverb says వానివేలితోనే వానికన్ను పొడిచినారు they pierced his eye with his own finger, i.e., they turned his arts against himself. పొడుపు poḍupu. n. A stab, పొడుచుట. A pricking pain, as that of a boil. The rising of the sun. The swell of a river. ఉదయము, పోటు. 'తడుకద్రోపరి ముచ్చు పొడుపులు.' P. iv. 255. టీ నెరదొంగలుగాక తడుకద్రోపరులైన దొంగలు. నెలపొడుపు the rising of the moon. పొడికథ or పొడుపుకథ a conundrum. పొడుపుడుమాట or ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాట a taunt or jeer, దెప్పు. Ila. iii. 8. పొడుపుగొండ poḍupu-gonḍa. n. A mountain out of which the sun is supposed to rise, ఉదయాద్రి. పొడువ or పొడుపడు poḍuva, n. One who thrusts or pricks. పొడుచువాడు. A wicked man, దుర్జనుడు.

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. A fight, combat, struggle, quarrel; teasing, troubling, insistence. ఇంటిలోనిపోరు family jars or brawls. ఆ పిల్ల పోరుపెట్టుచున్నది the child is giving a lot of trouble. పిచ్చికపోరు the uproar that sparrows make. పోరుట pōruṭa. n. (p. 993) mundu mundu. [Tel.] n. The front. ఎదురు. adj. Fronting, fore. Previous, former, preceding, early. After, next. ముందువెనుకలు before and behind, what comes before and what comes behind. adv. In front, in the beginning, at first, first. ముందుపని ముందరచేయవలెను you must first do what is first wanted. దానిముందుమాటకేమి అర్థము what is the meaning of the preceding word? ముందువెనుకలుగా పోవుచుండిరి they were going along, some before, some behind. ర వంతైనా ముందువెనుక చూడక without considering causes or consequences. ముందుకు వెనుకకు backwards and forwards, to and fro. Postposition: Before. వారు రాకముందు before they come. ముందుపడు or ముందగు mundu-paḍu. v. n. To go before, to lead. ముందర or ముందల mundara. n. The front, ఎదురు. A former time, మునుపు. Beginning, మొదలు. adv. Before, in front. First, in the first instance. Formerly, previously. Hereafter, next, in future. After, following, next. అంతకుముందగ before that. ముందరి or ముందటి fronting, opposite, former, previous. ముందటి కాలమునందు in former times. ముందరిపోటు a wound in front. 'ముందరిపోటులుమానును ముందెందైననుగలదు.' Vēma. ముందరిమాట. lit. the word before, i.e., the following word; also, the preceding word. ముందరికి forwards. ముందర పల్లము వెనుక మిట్ట a ditch before, and a hill behind, i.e., to be in a fix, to be caught in the horns of a dilemma. ముందరికి తెచ్చు to bring forward, promote. ముందరికి వచ్చు to come to the front, to be promoted, to prosper. ముందల mundala. (p. 1015) mūta mūta. [Tel from మూయు.] n. Shutting, closing, covering, మూయుట. A cover, lid, top. A valve, any little door as that of a lantern. The cover or parchment of a drum. మూయునది. మూతపడు or మూతలుపడు mūta-paḍu. v. n. To be closed, మూసికొనిపోవు. అతని చెవులు మూతలుపడినవి his ears were stunned, his ears tingled. మూతపొడువు mūta-poḍuvu. n. A kind of game. ఒక ఆట. 'దాయాలుసొగటాలు దాట్రాయి చదరంగమును పోటురాళ్లును, మూతపొడువు, వామనగుంటలు.' H. iii.191. మూతబల్ల mūta-balla. n. A sheathing plank that closes up the ends of the rafters of a pent roof. ఇంటి ముంజూరును మూయుబల్ల, వాచూరుపట్టె.

(p. 1032) mai or మయి mai. [Tel.] n. The body. శరీరము. Manner, విధము. A side, పార్శ్వము. A time, తడవ. 'కుత్తుకగుత్తుకజుట్టి పోరుచిల్వల క్రియగానరానిగతులన్ మైమైబెనుచున్ జనించు.' 'క మొలదట్టి చెరగుచెక్కుచు, బలుదిట్టకిరాతుడొకడు పటువగుముష్టిన్, సెలకట్టెబట్టివేరొక. సెలకట్టెంగొట్టివైచె జెమరుంగాకిన్.' Swa. iv. 83. 'కనిచేతన్ సెలగోలవట్టికొనుచున్ కానిమ్ముకానిమ్మురా.' BX. 349. సెలపంది sela-pandi. n. A porcupine, ఏదుపంది, ముండ్లపంది. సెలపారు, సెలవడు, సెలవారు or సెలవేయు sela-pāru. v. n. To fester or run into sinuses; to break into holes as a bad sore or ulcer. పుంటిలలో బొక్కలుపడి మూలమూలకు పారు. సెలబారినపుండు or సెలపుండు a sinuous ulcer which breaks into holes. ఆ పుండు సెలలుపారుచున్నది the ulcer breaks into holes. 'చిరుగోటి పోటులసెలబారునందురు.' Ila. ii. 7. సెలయేరు sela-y-ēru. n. A waterfall, cascade, mountain torrent. నిర్ఘరము. ధార. సెలయూట sela-y-ūṭa. n. A mountain spring. కొండయూట.

(p. 1382) hatamu hatamu. [Skt.] adj. Killed, slain, defeated, struck, hit, destroyed, blasted, blotted out. చంపబడ్డ, కొట్టబడ్డ, నాశము చేయబడ్డ, ధ్వంసము చేయబడ్డ, చెరుపబడ్డ, పోగొట్టబడ్డ. హతశేషులు the survivors. హతశ్రీ having lost fortune, ruined. n. Ruin, destruction, killing, నాశనము, సంహారము. హతముచేయు hatamu-chēyu. v. a. To kill, destroy, demolish. నాశముచేయు, సంహారము చేయు. హతహతముగా, హతహతములుగా or హతాహతముగా hata-hatamu-gā. adv. Pal. 496. హతాశుడు hat-āṣuḍu. n. He who is disappointed. విఫలమైన కోరికగలవాడు. హతాహతము hatā-hatamu. n. Destruction, violent contention. ధ్వంసము, మహత్తైనజగడము. హతి hati. n. Striking, smiting, a blow. కొట్టడము, దెబ్బ. 'విషాణహతిచే.' P. i. 241. హతుడు hatuḍu. n. One who has been struck, smitten, destroyed, or killed, One who is void of, or bereft of. కొట్టబడ్డవాడు, చంపబడ్డవాడు, విహీనుడు.
