(p. 28) accu aṭṭsu. n. A stamp, a form for printing or for any other impression, a type, a printing press. An axle-tree. A mould. The handle of a handmill, A weaver's reed or stay. An image, or picture. ప్రతి రూపమును కల్పించేటిది, ఇరుసుమాను, తిరగటి పిడి, బట్ట వేసేటందుకు సాధనమైనది, ప్రతిబింబము. పోత అచ్చు the mould wherein clay or metal is cast. ఇటికె అచ్చు the box or mould used in making bricks. అచ్చక్షరములు printed letters. అచ్చువేయు to print. ఇంకా అచ్చువేయని unprinted, unpublished.అచ్చువేసేవాడు a printer. అక్షరాల అచ్చులు types of letters. బెల్లపు అచ్చు a square mould into which boiled treacle is poured, and thus formed into cakes. అచ్చుబెల్లము a lump of jaggery, అచ్చొత్తు to seal, impress with a mark, to print అచ్చుకూటము (a Madras word,) A printing press office ముద్రాశాల. అచ్చుబల్ల the frame on which a weaver's reed is fixed. అచ్చువేసినయెద్దు a 'brahminy' bull that is marked or stamped and is allowed to wander at large, as consecrated to the deity. అచ్చుకట్టు or అచ్చుకట్టువేయు v. a. To prepare land for wet cultivation by throwing up banks to divide it into plots, partitions or beds. మళ్లుగా ఏర్పరచు అచ్చుకట్టించినమడి or అచ్చుకట్టు పొలము a field which is divided into beds for wet cultivation. అచ్చులపోయు to find yarn on the frame for weaving (Cuddapa.) అచ్చుగా aṭṭsu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Precisely, exactly, clearly, evidently. 'పిచ్చుకపై బ్రహ్మాస్తము నచ్చుగ దొడిగినవితాన.' T. iv. 22.

(p. 1396) acculupōyu aṭsṭsulu-pōyu. [Tel.] v. n. To bind yarn for weaving.

(p. 31) aṭu aṭu. [Tel.] adj. That. అటు తర్వాత after that. అటుపూర్వము Before that. అటుమొన్న the day before that preceding yesterday. ఏటికి అటుపక్క on the other side of the river. అటుపోక యెటు పోయెనో he did not go there, but is gone I know not whither. తురంగంబటునిటుబడి పారిపోయె the horse ran this way and that way and escaped. అటు atu. [Tel.] adv. So, thus, in that way or manner. అట్లు, ఆరీతిగా. అటువలెనే adv. In like manner. అదేరీతిగా. అటుగాన adv. Wherefore, therefore: so then if so.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 44) addira or అదిర addira. [Tel. అది+ర] Interj. What a wonder! Wonderful! అద్దిరపాటున addirapāṭuna. adv. Suddenly, unexpectedly. అదాటున. 'అనితలపోయువాని పొలుపద్దిరపాటున జూచి విస్మయంబనుపమలీల దొట్టిన.' S. iii. 543. అద్దిరయ్య interj. Bravo! excellent! శాబాసు. 'చెప్పక చెప్పెడు నద్దిరయ్యమా కెరుగదరం బెమీమహిమ.' Swa. i. 35.

(p. 66) appuḍu appuḍu. [Tel. from ఆ+పొద్దు] adv. Then, at that time (This is also used as a defective noun.) Dative అప్పటికి at that time, అప్పట్లో (locative) at that time. అప్పటినుంచి since that time. అట్లా చెప్పేటప్పటికి when he said so. మరియొకప్పుడు at another time. In compounds it means 'When', as వాడు వచ్చినప్పుడు when he came. ఒకప్పుడు వచ్చెను ఒకప్పుడు రాకపోయెను he sometimes came and sometimes stayed away. అప్పుడే (emphatic form) just then, already. అప్పుడే పుట్టిటనబిడ్డ a child just born. అప్పుడప్పుడు now and then. అప్పటిరాజులు the rulers of those days, the then princes.

(p. 79) aradēśiparadēśi aradēṣi-paradēṣi. [Skt.] n. A mendicant, a pilgrim. తిరిపెగాడు, యాత్రకు పోయేవాడు.

(p. 92) ava cāṭamugā ava-ṭsāṭamugā. [Tel.] adv. Unexpectedly, unawares, అకస్మికముగా, హటాత్తుగా. 'ఖలుడగుకంసుని పంపున నరిగి తృణావర్తుడవనికవచాటముగా సురకరువలియైబిసబిస నరుదరుదనముసరివిసరిహరిగొనిపోయెన్.' B. X. § 7.

(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 81) āripōyu ari-pōyu. [Tel.] v. a. To set the arrow on the bow. బాణము సంధించు. 'ధన్వంబునన్ బ్రహ్మాస్త్రంబరిపోసివేసి.' N. viii. 208. See. ఆరి.

(p. 129) āsukōvi āsu-kōvi. [Tel.] n. A stick through which the thread thus placed is passed. ఆసుపోయు āsu-pōyu. v. i. To pass this thread through the ఆసుకోవి: (in so placing it they run backwards and forwards, and hence) ఆసుపోసినట్టు denotes, backwards and forwards: this way and that way. పడుగుదారము తిప్పినట్లు. ఆసుమాను āsu-mānu. n. A frame work used to adjust the thread. నూలు పోగు పారించుటకు వాడే చట్టము.

(p. 150) ucca uṭṭsa. [Tel.] n. Urine. కాలుమడి, మాత్రము. ఉచ్చపోయు uṭṭsa-pōyu. v. n. To make water. ఉచ్చబుడ్డ uṭṭsa-buḍḍa. The bladder. నీరుతిత్తి.

(p. 179) e e. An affix denoting 'By oneself.' 'Unasked.' &c., తనంతట. 'ఎవరునడుగలేదు. వాడె వచ్చిపోయెను.'

(p. 185) eḍu eḍu. [Tel.] An affix denoting quantity (like full in a cup-ful, a bagful) పరిమాణార్థకము. మూరెడు a cubit, as much as a cubit. బారెడు an ell-long. బుడ్డెడు a bottleful. To this word the affix ఏసి is sometimes added: గంపేడేసి by basketfuls, a basketful at a time. cఎడు or ఎడి an affix applied to participles, does not alter the sense, as పోవు or పోయెడు going.

(p. 187) edugu edugu. [Tel.] v. n. To grow పెరుగు. To overtake. వారి సెదగలేకపోయెను. (Cuddapa) he was unable to overtake them.
