(p. 172) usuru usuru [Tel.] n. Breath, life; strength, vigour, grief; a sigh, affliction, plague, hardship, evil result; retribution or result. వాని ఉసురు నీకు తగులును his trouble will come upon you. ఆడదాని ఉసురు తగలకపోదు the sigh of a woman will not fail to bring trouble (to him who caused her grief). వారి ఉసురు తాకి వాడు చెడిపోవును their sorrows shall be visited on his head. ఉసురుపోసికొను or ఉసురుపుచ్చుకొను usuru-pōsi-konu. v. a. To cause sighs. To afflict. నా ఉసురు ఏల పోసుకొంటావు why do you torment me thus? ఇది చేసినందు ప్రజల యొక్క ఉసురు పోసుకొనెను this called down the curses of the people. ఉసురుతో కూడా alive.

(p. 819) pōyu pōyu. [Tel.] v. n. To arise, to be born or produced, పుట్టు, చెమటపోయు to perspire, చెమటపట్టు. చీముపోయు to suppurate as a boil, చీముపట్టు. వానికి యింకా అమ్మవారు పోయలేదు he has never had the small-pox. v. a. To pour, as water. To cast in metal or found. To fit on, as a halter as ఉరిపోయు. To place an arrow in a bow (బాణమును) సంధించు or కూర్చు. అమ్మవారు నిన్న సేతులుపోసినది the small pox came to a head yesterday. కట్టపోసినారు they built a bank. నారుపోయు to sow seed, which is afterwards to be transplanted. ఆకుపోయు to transplant rice. గోడపెట్టి ముదురుపోసినాడు he built a wall and placed a cope upon it. తలబ్రాలు పోసినది she poured the blessed grain upon their heads (in marriage.) ఉచ్చపోయు to make water, to pass urine. వడపోయు or వడకట్టు to strain rice, &c. ఉరిపోయు to cast a noose. వృథాగా నా ఉసురుపోసుకొన్నాడు he has injured me without any cause. పురుడుపోసేనిమిత్తము దానిని పుట్టింటికి తీసుకొని వచ్చినారు they brought her home to lie in. వాడు దానిని నోట్లో పోసుకొన్నాడు he poured it into his mouth. ఆ చిన్నది వానిని నీళ్లు పోస్తున్నది the girl is bathing him. ఆమె చెట్లకు నీళ్లుపోస్తున్నది she is watering the trees. బిచ్చమెత్తి పొట్టపోసు కొంటున్నాడు he fills his belly by begging. ఆసుపోసినది she placed the thread in readiness for weaving. పోయించు pōyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to cast or pour; to erect. గట్టుపోయించు to raise a bank. విగ్రహములు పోయించిరి they had some statues cast.

(p. 1282) sambāḷigalu , సమ్మాళిగలు or సంబవులు sambā-ḷigalu. [from Skt. సంభరువు.] n. Sandals, పావకోళ్లు. Shoes, slippers, పోపోసులు. పాదరక్షలు. 'సీ పట్టంగవీడుసంబాళిగల్ కలనిలోజేరవచ్చినమార్తుచేతగాని.' య. i.

(p. 1305) sammāḷigalu or సంబాళిగలు sam-māḷigalu. [from Skt.] n. plu. Sandals. పావుకోళ్లు. Shoes, పాపోసులు, పట్టుసమ్మాళిగలు silk shoes. 'సీ అట్టిట్టుదొడిగినయం ఘ్రల రత్నంపుసమ్మాళి గలలుసారెజారుచుండ.' KP. ii. 23. See సంబాళిగలు.

(p. 1337) suṅku sunku. [Tel.] n. A corn blossom: the yellow flower that comes on each grain in an ear or head of corn, కంకిలోని గింజ పాలుపట్టక ముందు ప్రతిగింజమీద పచ్చగానుండేపువ్వు. Grain ceremoniously thrown over a married couple. ఒక పళ్లెములో బియ్యమువేసి పైనపళ్లెముమూసి వధూవరుల మీద పాటలుపాడుచు చల్లే బియ్యము. 'మనయిళామాధవులకు శోభనమటంచు చల్లగాపాడి సుంకులుచల్లిరపుడు.' Ila. i. 114. 'బిరుదుల్ గంటలగట్టి సుంకువెలయున్ బింకెంబుతో నెంతగాకరుకుల్ జూపెను బోతుదన్ విరిసి స్రుక్కన్ వ్రాలుచున్ కంకిగాపరులొందన్ తెగునింతె కాకలమగర్భంబుల్ తృణప్రాయమై.' UH. iv. 3. 65. సుంకుపోసుకొన్న ౛ొన్న the great-millet in flower. An obstacle or obstruction. ప్రతిబంధము.

(p. 1368) snātakuḍu snātakuḍu. [Skt.] n. A Brahmin who is a householder, duly intiated after completing his studies. వివాహార్థముగా స్నాతకవ్రతము చేయువాడు, స్నానశీలవ్రతుడు, సమావర్తనముచేసి గృహస్థు అయినవాడు. If at the end of this period, he has not acquired a knowledge of the Vedas, he is called వ్రతస్నాతకుడు. If he has acquired this knowledge before the end of the period, he is called విద్యాస్నాతకుడు. If he finishes his studies with the expiration of the period, he is termed ఉభయస్నాతకుడు. స్నాతుడు snātuḍu. n. One who has bathed, స్నానము చేయువాడు, నీళ్లుపోసుకొన్నవాడు.' సుప్నాతులై.' M. XIII. iii. 102. స్నానము snānamu. n. Bathing, ablution, a bath. ముణగడము. కంఠస్నానము bathing all but the head. శిరస్న్సానము bathing the whole body. కటిస్నానము bathing up to the middle. స్నానఘట్టము a bathing place. ప్రాతస్న్సానము a morning bath. అభ్యంగస్నానము bathing after having anointed the head with oil. స్నానమైన తరువాత after bathing. కృతస్నానుడై having bathed. జ్ఞానస్నానము Christain baptism.
