Ainslie 1. 420.) found in the hollows of the bamboo. కప్పురంబు పెట్టి ఉప్పు కొనుట. (A. vi. 75.) To give camphor for salt, that is, what is valuable for what is worthless. ఉప్పుకండ uppu-kaṇḍa. n. Dried flesh, salt meat. ఉప్పుకాయ uppu-kāya. n. Salted fruit, pickle. ఉప్పు కాపడమిచ్చు to foment with heated salt. ఉప్పుకల్లు or ఉప్పురాయి a grain of salt. ఉప్పుచేప uppu-chēpa. n. To moulder. ఉప్పురిసిపోయిన mouldering, dilapidated. కప్పురిసిన యిల్లు a house that sweats salt or that is going to decay. ఉప్పు సముద్రము uppu-samudramu. n. The ocean or salt sea.

A gourd, a pumpkin, Cucurbita maxima. గుమ్మడితీగె or గుమ్మడిచెట్టు a gourd vine. గుమ్మడిపువ్వు a gourd flower. గుమ్మడి పండువంటిదేహము a form delicate and fragile as a gourd. పెండ్లి గుమ్మడికాయ or బూడిదగుమ్మడికాయ the white gourd, Benincasa cerifera (Watts.) The expression గుమ్మడిపండు is also a tuck or fold in the front of woman's petticoat. గుమ్మడికాయచెంబు brass pot of a particular shape. గుమ్మడికాయలాగున కూర్చున్నాడు he was sitting at his ease.

(p. 624) dhūsaramu dhūsaramu. [Skt.] adj. Ash-colored, dark, obscure, embrowned as with dust, discoloúred, soiled, begrimed. Iron-grey: blackish. బూడిదవర్ణముగల. n. Ash-color. బూడిదవర్ణము. An ass, గాడిద.

'ఆ పడయరాని యాయువొడలికిగలిగిన, బావకృతులదానిబదటగలప' M. XII. v. 468. పదటబుచ్చు padaṭa-buṭsṭsu. v. a. To ruin, to waste. బుగ్గిలోగలువు. 'చదువులెగనాడె నీతులుపదటబుచ్చె.' Satya. iv. 57.

An army, a force, troops, దండు. A camping ground, దండువిడియుచోటు. Encamping, halting. A barony or county under a petty chief. పాలెమున్నవారు soldiers in garrison. Kālahas. iii. 71. పాలెగాడు or పాళెగాడు pāḷe-gāḍu. n. A feudal retainer, a petty chieftain called a Poligar. పాళెపట్టు pāḷe-paṭṭu. n. Feudal tenure in fee. Villages held by petty chiefs free of assessment. పాళెముపట్టు pāḷemu-paṭṭu. n. An encampment. దండువిడిసినస్థలము. A polygar's estate, పాళెగాని రాజ్యము.

The rite which answers to betrothal between children, the actual marriage being called, శోభనము. పెండ్లి అరుగు or పెళ్లితిన్నె a small hillock upon which the marriage takes place. పెండ్లి కూతురు or పెండ్లికొమార్తె n. The bride, వధువు. A daughter-in-law, కోడలు. పెండ్లి కొడుకు, or పెండ్లికుమారుడు n. The bridegroom. Various species are తిండిబెళగువ్వ the Bronze-winged Dove, Chalcophaps indica; ఎర్రనిగువ్వ the Red Turtle dove, Conopopelia tranquebarica; చిటబెళగువ్వ the little Brown Dove, Turtur cambayensis. బూడిదెబెళగువ్వ or పెద్దబెళగువ్వ the Indian Ring-dove, Turtur risorius. పచ్చబెళగువ్వ the Green Pigeon, Crocopus chlorogastor. (F.B.I.). పిడేరపుబెళగువ్వ a large species.

(p. 906) boṭṭu boṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A drop. A sectarian mark on the forehead, white, yellow, black or scarlet, long or round. A gold spangle or patch in general. The gold piece attached to the marriage cord. (మంగళసూత్రము.) A three-pie piece. The grammatical sunna or circlet, representing N. or M. నిలువుబొట్టు or సోగబొట్టు the upright line or streak in the forehead which denotes the Vaishṇava sect. అడ్డబొట్టు the cross mark which denotes the Saivites. తాళిబొట్టు the sign of marriage, being a bit of gold tied on the bride's throat. బొట్టుకట్టు to tie the తాలిబొట్టు,i.e., to marry. గట్టిబొట్టు full sunna. నేతిబొట్టు a little ghee. 'తిరుపతి కొప్పులమదముగదీర్చిన బూడిదెబొట్టు, మంచిదేర్పరచినమించునట్టి రుదురాక్కల పేరులు.' S. iii. 99. ఎక్కడ ఉన్నా సరిగా బొట్టు పెట్టినట్టు చిక్కుచున్నది wherever it is, he finds it in a moment. బొట్టుదారము boṭṭu-dāramu. n. The string round the neck from which the tāli is suspended, మంగళసూత్రము.
